Guys Reach is pretty sweet. JETPACKS fuck yes. You have no idea how fun they are. I was like "hey brutes you shouldn't be here so weeeee *jetpacks* *BLAM BLAM BLAM*"

The other spartans are pretty kickass btw. There's this guy with A SKULL ON HIS HELMET AND HE HAS A MACHETE. There's also this guy with a tattoo and the captain guy is badass in his own way. Plus brutish black guy.

Oh yeah multiplayer looks set to be awesome with all the abilities. Active camo is brilliant -- you are completely invisible if you don't move. Perfect for camping snipers. There's also a decoy/hologram ability, which makes a hologram (whoa no way) run to where you direct it (just a straight line) to distract the enemy. Brilliant when used in conjunction with another person camp sniping. OH MAN :bigsmile:

Some of the weapons are balls now though. And brutes shouldn't be there. Nor should the damn engineers. Or um, buggers. Yeah. All those guys shouldn't be at Reach.

Serious fucking hell, I hate the other spartans. I can't believe the driving AI is actually worse than halo 3.. heck, worse than halo 2. And it only beats halo 1 by a small factor due to the fact that back then other marines made a habit of driving into a ravine.

In one driving stage I had to get out 4 times to drive the warthog a few yards so the bitch could start driving again. You can't believe how satisfying hitting or shooting her in the back was.

Not had any problems with stupid AI in the campaign (completed the game solo on normal after my connection lagged so hard I got dumped out of campaign with Paul and Dan lol) At least nothing like the Arbiter kicking a crate in to my face which is what happened on Halo 3. Biggest gripe was the marine shooting the missile hog (which we only get to use in one level boo :( that was like awesome) shooting a rock point blank and killing me and the one time Jun actually sniped me as he sniped covies outside swordbase, then again she sniped me just as I failed to get an assasination takedown on a brute.

I really enjoyed the campaign on this one, certainly the looks of the characters and the voice acting (even though the cast list for ODST was better) seemed to be the best in any halo game so far. Though Bungie said in interviews they know players don't like to go back over previous territories again there was a fair amount of backtracking. Personally though I know I'm likely to do it or at least attempt it I don't fancy the final levels on legendary solo, they're going to prove a bitch lol especially when checkpoints seem quite few and far between.

Can endorse every sentiment in this post wholeheartedly, especially about the music, like he said you expect some parts of a Halo game to be utter :bou::bou::bou::bou:e but their soundtracks are usually great. This one was absolutely terrible apart from two nice songs.

Oh, nice glitch btw. I'm driving on the back of a scooter while the AI is driving at 1/4 it's speed, somehow we don't die but ride the ramp waaay too slow, and the car just gets a glitch boost shooting me across the map. :p

I cared more about the disembodied voice of Echo 419 in CE than I did about any actual character in Reach. They are all bland, boring stereotypes who I don't give two :bou::bou::bou::bou:s about (Jorge is the exception, he was actually likable and approached something in the same ballpark as interesting). "But Huxley", you might be saying, "that's not really a big deal, I never gave two :bou::bou::bou::bou:s about anyone in Halo!" If that's you then fair enough, but I'm just making the point that I did, but I don't in Reach, except for a couple of cameos towards the end, where I only cared because other games had established it.

I'm gonna agree on that, Echo-419's death had a huge impact on me back then, the first time I played it. Here someone dies and you just shrug it off saying: "Meh, I hated them anyway."

Btw, final mission, can anyone say Final Fantasy: Crisis Core ending ripoff?

Completed all the daily challenges today. Apparently playing the meta game or something screws with the "This is How We Do It" weekly challenge because despite having received the achievement for completing my Solo Legendary run, I'm short on levels completed for that one. I'm certainly enjoying the matchmaking, although I'm quite a bit out of practice. My K/D is positive at least, although just barely. Every good game I have seems to get all but negated because I play miserably the next. I think having consistently good teammates might help, since I find myself still losing the match even when I do well (going +10 in team slayer and losing is fucking obnoxious).

I guess I'm perhaps one of the few people who didn't dislike the campaign. Certainly your ally AI is pretty fucking awful, but that's always been the case, and I don't count on the AI to do much of anything anyway. I never really had the AI give me much trouble throughout my play.

I'll agree that the story was pretty disappointing. Like Huxley, I've actually enjoyed the main storyline of the Halo franchise, and I'll also agree that what the series always delivered was an epic scale. This was certainly something that Reach lacked, at least until the very end, which I thought, all things considered, was pretty good. I think what really disappointed me was that Bungie didn't really try to surprise us with anything, and ultimately it just make me wonder if it might have been better if they didn't try to tackle a storyline where the fate of all the characters is already known.

That said, I think the level design was by far the best in the series. The Halo games have slowly progressed from the horrible backtracking that was the latter half of Halo: CE's campaign to the samesy-level design that plagues Halo 2 and 3. ODST was a step in the right direction of giving us some varied environments, but it was limited by all taking place in New Mombasa. Traveling all over the different environments of Reach certainly provided a nice change of pace.

Legendary difficulty was significantly more difficult than it has been in the past, mostly because the Elite AI is pretty fucking mean. I appreciate a good challenge, especially since I tend to like playing the campaign.

Glad to see someone else agrees with me. Multi is smurfing amazing. I had good fun slaying people with JKTrix. I missed Paul by ONE SMURFING HOUR which was a pain. My free Live trial is run out but I'm going to have to get it legit just for Reach. But I am seriously sick of Boardwalk, that was the first 6 matches I played.

Invasion is pretty sweet too, I just wish it had more rounds or summat.

My favourite hologram trick is to have a sword and send out the hologram with the sword. People sometimes get wise to the hologram when it's got a gun, but when they see the giant glowing sword heading at them, they panic. I follow in behind with my DMR and at worst I get several free shots on them as they try to take down the sword-o-gram, but a lot of the time I actually kill them while they're still fighting it off.

I find it pretty easy most of the time to tell what's a hologram and what isn't personally, which is pretty useful. I thought they were going to be horrible to deal with. Had some fun with a guy today on Reflection who absolutely spammed his hologram like it was the be all and end all tactic of Reach, if he saw me coming (I assume he was doing this to other people as well) he would frantically run backwards around a corner and then send his hologram out like it wasn't blatantly obvious what he was doing. The best part about it was even though he apparently abuses them like there's no tomorrow he had no clue what was a hologram and what wasn't. Whenever I saw him I'd let him go back round and send his hologram out, wait until it came past and then send mine running past it and he fell for it every single time. Easy kills.

Also think Reflection is probably my favourite multi map so far, thought I wouldn't like it at first but it's been pretty kind to me so far. Reminds me of Timesplitters.

I'm surprised at the beef with the ally AI. You were really expecting anything different? Marines have always been useless, the only thing they're good for is being portable extra pistol rounds.

Other than my deep seated hatred for Marines I really enjoyed this game. The characters aren't very memorable, other than Jorge that is (that dude's a beast), and some of the level designs were not what I was expecting from a Halo game, but since 3 I've come to accept that I will probably never again play a game as awesome as Combat Evolved and have resigned myself to like them for what they are, really fun balls of :bou::bou::bou::bou:. Besides, we all know that they gave up on storyline a long time ago for online multiplayer.

I think I averaged about an hour a mission. It wasn't really all that awful. A few parts were obnoxiously brutal, but there rest is just trial and error.

Anyone who can complete an iron skull legendary run, much less a mythic run, has my respect. I can tolerate a certain level of masochism playing this stuff, but I draw the line at solo iron skull. Fuck that.

Moot point here but frankly the whole "You know they let me choose" line Cortana says to Master Chief during the trilogy "You were lucky John" and "I sure know how to pick 'em" they kinda take on a new light after reach. After all, Cortana did not choose Master Chiefl, she chose Noble 6 except he chooses to stay and protect the escape of Captain Keyes and the Pillar of Autumn alone on the mass cannon since it's very much needed. This means Cortana's first choice died. Master Chief was a second or rather a forced decision not her primary choice. Now we know a lot of what Cortana tends to say is related to what is said by Dr Halsey but still talk about different stuff!

The Halo series has lost a bit of magic in this installment. The way they tried to tie things together was rash and seems wrong compared to the other series. Cortana seems to have had little if at all any choice in master chief, while she was supposed to pick him from about 100 spartans due to the fact he was both the luckiest and the best.

Then in previous canon the Pillar of Autumn was late to the fight at reach because it was on its way out, and had to turn back (and therefore survived the initial onslaught). Here it was.. for some reason there? I severely doubt one ship could muscle its way through an entire Covenant armada, Cortana or no Cortana.

Not to mention it fails to explain why MC would even be on the Pillar of Autumn. He was the leader of all of them, why wasn't he out there, fighting?

Overall I didn't care for the story, the music or the people. This would be an awful game if the gameplay wasn't this awesome (as long as you kill or leave behind any friendly AI's).

Ignoring the books for a bit (which I know means ignoring something considered canon for many years) would you opinions have been different? I just think that the fact Cortana actually chose Noble 6 initially and then ends up with the chief through no option was a little retarded though I love the last stand of Noble 6 his final mission; "There'll be another time" was pretty awesome though I would have loved for the story to allow him to escape without dying so that unknown to the UNSC surviving on Reach stood 1 single spartan who lives off the land or something.

Halo: Reach has certainly retconned canon for the series to a certain degree, but it shouldn't necessarily have retconned John-117's history with Cortana. Cortana and John-117 were paired together long before the events of Reach, and it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to suggest that part of the reason that Cortana must be delivered to the Pillar of Autumn is because that is where John-117 is currently located. She chose Noble 6 as her delivery boy, but that doesn't mean that she was stuck with the Master Chief by circumstance rather than choice.

What's changed is that at some point the Pillar of Autumn actually lands on Reach rather than arriving for an attempted rescue (or perhaps more likely never leaves); also it would seem that instead of Cortana choosing the location of Installation-04 is not because of data the Master Chief found on Sigma Octanus IV but rather because of the data found by Noble Team and decoded with a joint effort between Cortana and Dr. Halsey. This certainly changes some of Cortana's history with John-117, but not necessarily all of it.

The books and Halo: Legends are a secondary canon. That tends to happen when you let other people adopt stories about a given story. This kind of stuff happens all the time in universes which become as popular as the Halo franchise, so I'm not especially bothered by it. I just focus on the primary canon established in the video games; if additional story added in supplemental narrative doesn't conflict with the primary canon then great. If it conflicts, it's easy to ignore.

In related news, apparently a revised version of The Fall of Reach is due out some time in the near future. I imagine the incongruities in the canon will be rectified with the new edition.

Oh and, best way to take down an elite so far: He sprints towards me energy sword ready to end me I sprint towards him narrowly passing him by, immediately haul back on stick turn and hit melee and take him down with an assasination, cue me then armed with sword for the next Elite.

Best take down on anything else? 2 hunters on Oni Swordbase, they're in the carpark entrance underground I grab a sniper rifle (my rocket launcher having 1 shot left I gave to a marine with us because he gets infinite ammo) from above the doorframe on the walkway, standing in the entrance to the place I snipe them both in the unprotected neck as they're powering their fuel rods up to take me down and kill them. I headshot killed Hunters, I know thats pretty darn sick considering it was solo legendary.

Edit: That video, all manner of awesome. However also awesome would've been him jumping out the Falcon and then stealing the Banshee from that elites ass. Would require a second gunner in the Falcon for the Falcon to still be of use/operational for long afterwards.

I disagree, I think it's far more awesome the way it is. He got out, rocketed the fuck out of the banshee, then got back in the falcon. I think it's the last bit that really does it, almost like it was nothing.

Speaking of skill, me and Dan had a major rapefest on Halo yesterday. Repeatedly went between +5 and +25 on K/D. Think between us we got four running riots and countless Frenzies. I had four games where I didn't even die once, and on two of those I got a Frenzy, another I got a RR, and on the fourth, well, it was such an epic rapefest nobody on our team died once. And it's not like the other team quit or hid or something (well, one did halfway through), they kept coming and dying. Although I only got one kill in that, as I was warthog driving. Something I learnt in campaign....drop shields are a beautiful, beautiful thing. They're not just a bubble shield but work as a regenerator too hence the trade off of less visibility through them is worth while. when taking on a covenant ship solo on legendary this becomes the be all and end all of survival.

I'd never really used drop shields before then, I always just assumed they were bubble shields, nothing more. Therefore for my style of gameplay in solo legendary found the far more offensive sprint or jet packs to be superior in about every way. like how for example on the mission before you take off to go in to space I took down a sword wielding elite using nothing but sprint to bypass him so I could get an assasination on him what stopped me from getting the sword in my guts. Or the countless times I've managed to use Kat or another Noble Team member "assisting" me in my mission as a distraction whilst I sprint up behind an elite packing some serious firepower to quickly remove them from the playing field without too much hassle. So no I didn't realize what drop shields done aside from protect you from damage, then again when I mentioned this to some of the other people who do Halo Reach they never realized this either so if you wanna try acting like a dick about it go ahead but I'll point down at my giant white cock and say "suck on it sweet meats" :smug

Eric, I'm going to point out here that originally I was meant to be a turtle in this, I couldn't participate though due to my :bou::bou::bou::bou:ty work schedules and moronic family. The replacement knows he's a replacement but hell it was good fun to read about either way and so I'm not complaining.

Also, I just missed the challenge today for pass the rock (20 assists, got to 11/20 fuck knows why but even pro slayer games weren't giving me assists even when I was using nothing but my 'nades and a plasma pistol) but I finished the gunslinger challenge and then done the thirst quenched one too. 2 of the 16 challenges required for the weekly, which in itself is worth 16000cr hence I'm bothering.

Just dicking around in swat I managed to get an awesome kill on this guy, I was on Zealot and it was 3 v 3 my team was one person down and the player with me was complete gash and the enemy team were pretty good which sucked because I was therefore struggling to break even my k/d winning was just out of the question. However I went through a space launcher, execute some guy by as soon as I pop through the shield putting a bullet in the back of his brain, I then run around to where the ramp up is and proceed to the "outer ring" level and first enemy I see is him who I promptly executed again before getting taken down by his 2 buddies who were right behind him, the game ended with both of us dead (my partner decided to follow my every move to die right behind me and occassionally fuck with my positioning or by accidentally plugging a body shot in to my ass) but considering I managed to keep my personal k/d level (18 kills, 18 deaths) and the game wasn't as open as to be considered a rape fest I had to laugh because the guy basically got learnt and then learnt again straight afterwards, theres a video in my file share of the guy getting owned, the first kill there was the best it must be said. It was almost as satisfying as killing a guy, proceeding up to the top of reflection, getting a triple kill on the rest of his team by myself before he managed to sneak up behind me to assasinate me.

Gotta love team swat for dicking over people who're spending way too much time on this game. Swat magnums on Pinnacle (I voted for reflection but hey, some douches love to be douches) well after I kill their entire team in a row around the free standing tower overlooking the bowl (not sniper tower, least not the one with the basement level) they finally take me down by sending 3 people together...I got a thorough bagging by 2 of them so I hunt them down, killed one in the lower levels then proceeded to kill two of his buddies with single shots whilst continuously bagging on his face I eventually get killed by the fourth guy using 4 bullets to put me down. I lol'd pretty hard in that.

I know it's brilliant when it comes to your mothers I just can't help myself I mean sure, what the heck I could start with other stuff but well it's become halo tradition now that we play and I cuss your mothers like a seasoned mother fucker. In more serious news, aside from NCG being a wuss earlier and not joining up for some halo shenanigans. I've managed to get the "if they came to hear me beg" achievement whilst on my solo legendary playthrough which is pretty damn sweet if you ask me, there is no real better way to enter the final level on legendary solo than by leaping off a cliff, landing on an elite's head and then going "hi mother fuckers" to the grunt/jackal patrol by throwing a grenade at the jackals and then putting a solitary pistol round through the face of each grunt. All that is left now for me on my solo legendary play through is the final "firefight" segment (I'm 50% of the way through this at least) and the mass gun before I get to sit back and let noble 6 die horribly (I'm not going to bother attempting to survive on legendary at the end, screw that would rather just get my achievement and go)

Yes, Paul and Dan are comediens, I didn't originally decide to do the achievement with them they kinda decided that they'd help/watch me do it because they'd both been given matchmaking bans for quitting too many games, namely on the receiving end of the betrayal boot or the disconnection at random due to their :bou::bou::bou::bou:ty net connections. I got the distinct impression right from the off that I wouldn't get it with them two around before they done it but if I did do it in front of them then well it'd be awesome to just point out how cool that action is. I never get bored of watching that clip over and over, best achievement ever really imho, unless they come out with one for betraying Kat in campaign for driving like Julian's mother, badly and suicidally, generally at the same time it's why his mom loves to be driven so often.

New weekly doesn't seem too bad either if you can bang in 200 kills a day or so.

Those pricks could not handle us two that round it was totally amazing, the fact that I had them running for cover and you were pounding that cover hardcore with the wraith cannon was a beautiful, beautiful thing. We both did pretty fucking amazing between us we were around 30 odd kills deep before one of them got lucky as I splattered his buddy and boarded me forcing Paul to enact the agreed pact of "Operation DENIAL" which was basically if either of us got boarded the other betrayed them immediately without any hesitation so that the veichle and the only real danger got eliminated at once. It was fucking glorious especially as immediately afterwards the scoreboards popped up (the guy who boarded me rage quit when he got taken out in operation denial) which meant when I respawned so did my wings, I was back in the air and back to raping them like a pro with Paul immediately. (I was running 1 kill short of the running riot however when I got killed in the betrayal was pretty fucking pissed about that but the betrayal was necessary and so there was never any bad blood, Paul would've felt the same should he have gotten boarded)

Also loving the new maps though thanks to my stupid family I'm having to stealth use the internet on my laptop and don't get a chance to do anything really other than e-mails or msn if it was working lately whats with that gayness anyhow. Still the good news is I got the A Monument to All Your Sins achievement which didn't take all that much time once I sat down to focus the hardest part was the very last elite before I took the shot on the carrier had dual plasma rifles, now I had the shotgun and assault rifle (human) he was out of the effective range of the shotty and tore me to shreds when I tried to get him with my 'nades so I suicide charged by pinning him down with my assault rifle before swapping the assault rifle for the fuel rod one of the elites dropped on dying which lay between the two of us and pounding him that felt so damn satisfying I actually let out a "fuck yeah!" and fist pumped the air in victory.

Considering my family is more retarded than you can possibly imagine (theres a Frankie Boyle level joke to go in here, I can't post it though because I think someone might possibly actually give me a pink title for it, all I'm gonna say is think Frankie Boyle, controversey and a mental disorder beginning with D and it's not Depression multiply the sufferers by 10 million fold or maybe just an entire school full you might get close to the jist of what I'm leaning in to here) I've been busy on the Assassins Creed trilogy, I've not played them yet and so picked up the first and second to go with my free copy of Brotherhood, so far I'm still playing the first...I am in love with the hidden dagger and counter attacks...oh dear god.

What my sister thought would stop me was removing the router every night at 9pm what she don't realize is I have my own router and so would plug that in for my laptop's use when I have the chances to do it. However if I used my xbox and woke them up when doing so I would give the game away hence the stealth tactics of only using my laptop. I proved a fair few points though with this, 1) theres fuck all they can do to stop me, 2) if I wanted to wake them up, 30 seconds to mars This is War set to maximum volume with the addition of a small portable speaker set also maxed out at 3am does that just fine, 3) I can make a phone call at 4am and keep them all up. Ofcourse my tactics didn't make them more inclined to put the router back but it proved my point. That and add in I've worked a lot and have been out drinking regulary (xmas party was full of win guys trust me on this) I just aint had the time to go on xbl or even my laptop most nights. Still points proven and the router is there again which means I can go online...when I have the time most nights I'm working til 10pm at any rate. I have 1 day off before xmas and thats friday...

also on the subject of reach, they made a grifball playlist for massive hilarity. My weekly challenge of the get 200 multikills over the course of a week went from 14 to finished in about 3 hours, couldn't do better than a killtrocity though (should have taken that on to at least a killtastrophe but fail at life). Highlight of the grifball day for me was probably when we had this game where things just descended into lunacy. For us grifball is never about planting a bomb and more about having fun repeatedly smashing people with gravity hammers, so what we usually do is have one of us holding the bomb and running around and let the other one go mental. Of course, this usually doesn't sit well with failures who want to plant bombs and shiet, so they try and kill us to get the bomb. Bad mistake on their part if they do. It happened in one game and we spent the rest of the first round betraying this guy who tried to kill us for the bomb as he spawned and he eventually quit at the end of the round.

The thing was though while trying to get him we also ended up betraying our team mate a few times and he didnt like it. Come the second round we all spawn and I decided to smack our team mate in the face there and then and I think he just about had enough then and went mental just betraying me and Paul and trying to kill anyone who came near him, and the enemy team decided to join in as well and ignored planting the bomb and just spent the rest of the game beasting the shiet out of everyone. My favourite part though was when I was teabagging at their team as they ran over and this other guy on their team started teabagging at us as well, and he kept running to the middle of the map and bagging at us so I decided to fulfill one of my Halo dreams, jumped on his head and started bagging right there and then. Always wanted to stand on someone from the enemy teams head and bag in the middle of a game. even better when his team mate ran up and tried to kill me and wasted us both fgj. all this time paul was just in a betrayal war with the guy on our team and went -43, and the guy on our team also went -43, and died 101 times. In a single game of Halo. so we performed God's work to say the least

I love how Jiro and I alternated on who sucked most; some games I walked out with just three kills, and on others something in the teens. Maybe because he had to play with an American, our opponents kept on dropping out on us. One game, I think we spent almost ten minutes scouring Boardwalk to hunt down our ONE opponent who kept on hiding. I eventually amused myself by rocketing Jiro and his friend Thor.
