Why does Rosa expect Rydia to be able to easily handle Black Magic?

Rydia is a Summoner, and Black Magic ≠ Summon Magic.
What's this all about?
Yeah, I realize that Summon Magic is in many ways similar to powerful Black Magic, but it's still not the same profession.

Yes but Rydia is considered a Summoner, not a Black Mage.
And Rosa just seems to assume that if someone knows Summon Magic then they automatically know Black Magic as well, almost as if it were a weaker version of Summon Magic or something.

Yes, but I mean from an interactive perspective.
Rosa doesn't seem to know about Rydia's ability to use Black Magic, but apparently thinks that since she is a Summoner she "should" automatically be a capable Black Mage as well.
Does this mean that being skilled in Black Magic is a prerequisite for a Summoner?

I think Final Fantasy Tactics has proven that the answer is yes. :D

Well, technically speaking it has at least proven that Summoners are unlocked by leveling up a Black Mage. :D
Still feels like slightly different things though, Black Magic is more about controlling the elements, while Summoning is about calling entities, and Summoners don't directly use magic, they have the summoned monsters use magic for them.
But maybe I'm looking too much into things.

Actually I always kind of viewed Summons as some type of "higher form of Black Magic", and saying that they are rooted in the elements would make sense.
Of course, there are a few specials like Golem and Carbunkle, but theoretically those creatures can also be rooted in certain elements.

Yuna was a high summoner,(FFX) and she wasn't skilled in black magic at all. Although you can put her in that direction lter in the game. But it does seem that in most FF's you are both skilled in Black Magic and Summoner.

There's also no reason to think that the worlds of FF10 and FF4 are in any way similar. :p

I guess Rosa is under the impression that a pre-requisite of summon magic is to be able to handle black magic. I'm too lazy to check all the messages in the mage hall/village of summons, but I'm sure it is understood that being able to summon monsters requires black magic.

When a Summoner learns summoning magic, it is necessary for her to master basic white and black magic - so Summoners can also use magic. (emphasis mine)

Summons are an advanced type of magic, of course it would make sense to start off with the basics.

Depends on how you look at it - Summons can be considered "the art of summoning powerful beasts", which is quite different from ordinary magic;
you essentially call for aid and have entities handle magic for you.
But if the summoning itself requires some form of actual control over the entities' respective elements then of course it would be necessary to become proficient in certain black magic.
