Good lord, does he ever stop wittering on? Hey listen!

My main issue with Hope is just that they make his conversations with Lightning while you are out in the world way too long at times. It's not too rare for a conversation to start and to not hear the end of it before another conversation is triggered by you walking too far. I'm pretty certain I had to trigger chronostasis twice in a conversation once if I wanted to just stand there and listen to it without fear of not getting to hear all of it and without having it eat up so much time.

It's worse when he interrupts an interesting story conversation. Even better, he has on occasion called me up to interrupt himself.

That's more what I was meaning. He interrupts himself all the time for me, and it's generally some pretty interesting story stuff that I'd like to hear, and it's usually something stupid he's interrupting himself with. This really should have been handled better. Say what you will about Navi, but she doesn't interrupt herself and what she has to say takes like two seconds. It's not interesting, but you aren't missing out on anything if you just ignore her, heh.

I wouldn't mind him so much if he had a bit more personality. =| He makes Lightning look like the life of the party.

I like that there's always this running dialogue between Lightning and Hope, my two favorite FFXIII characters.
I do not like that I sometimes have to choose between listening to it and making good time.

Yeah, I agree BoB. They destroyed Hope's character in this.

Finish the story and you will see.

I liked adult Hope. Wonder why they went with the younger version in the game.

It is Future Hope, so not the character's very own Hope. He was just made a child in appearance for reasons I won't spoiler.

Yeah I get that the game has some silly explanation for it I'm sure. My question was more for the design, why did the developers decide that the younger appearance would be better? They could have easily kept the older model and made up something like they did for most of this plot.

That is not really a silly explanation in the story. It is part of the plot and would not have with exactly the same impact that was intended because of what happened and what happens. There are some odd things but that is not one of them.

They might have a perfectly fine explanation for the way he is, and it might even redeem the Hope of this game for me. That being said, he is just terribly uninteresting to me at this point in the game. I am hopeful that I will come to appreciate his role in this game.

I've been listening to his conversations, then reloading and ignoring them. They put the entire game on a time table, and then start putting dialogue in while the clock is ticking? Frell that. At least Portal gave a really good explanation for it, with GlaDos trying to distract you long enough for the deadly neurotoxin to kill you. You'd think, since Hope knows time is critical, he would shut the heck up and let me save the world.
Maybe Hope was the villain all along o.o

I'm not wanting spoilers but I do wish they made Hope just a bit less annoying. I mean I didn't love Hope in the first one and in the second I didn't have to do much more than tolerate him but he was better, and now it's just What?

Hey Lightning, it's 5 AM. You have one hour before you have to come back to the Ark.

Fifteen minutes left Light. Just in case you had forgotten what happens at 6 AM every day, you're going to be magically teleported back up to the Ark.
I am not even smurfing exaggerating here. He literally interrupted his third call to me about it being 6 AM soon by calling me to remind me that it would be 6 AM soon.
Hope is going to make a wonderful mom.

That is still nothing compared to "Hey! Wisten!".

You're right. It's much worse.
"Hey Light, you have 10 minutes left. I just don't want you to be caught by surprise when you are transported back. I know I've told you this at least 10 times in the last hour and that we go through this everyday, but I'm still really concerned that it will be a big surprise that this will happen to you.

My least favourite was "Hey, Lightning, you may have smurfed up that battle because you're such a loser, but did you know you lost an HOUR of time? Because you totally did. Gods, you're awful. Just so bad.. You lost a battle AND an hour of time. You're a double-loser. LOSER-LOSER."
:stare: SHUT UP HOPE.
Square is just trolling us with Hope now.

EDIT: And I am really sick of people persuading someone while lacking intended context by original makers and ignoring officially published material, just ignoring canonicity. Still I can find these people on many websites and their pages, see PuPu for example. For that the Ignore List exists. Navi is famous with her "hints", famous enough that this thread was made to compare Hope with her and while exaggerated, famous with her words as she is just present all the time.

I'm convinced that 90% of the people who complain about the "Hey, listen" never played the game. Do you realize how infrequent it was? It happened once when you started up the game, to make sure that you knew what part of the story you were on and where to go, and it only ever repeated once an hour (of real time) after that. Even then, it would only repeat if you didn't progress the story at all within that hour. Other than that, you would hear a "hey" if you ran too close to a locked door or something similar, and would only hear the "listen" if you asked her to explain. Navi was one of the least obtrusive, most helpful companions in video gaming, and I am really sick of her getting ostracized for trying to help make sure you don't get lost in Hyrule at such an incredibly infrequent rate.

I never had a problem with Navi. Ocarina of Time is easily my favorite Legend of Zelda game.
As for Hope, he doesn't say much of critical relevance. Only time he gets annoying is if he talks over someone else. Or in all of XIII, he was pretty annoying then. XIII-2 made him more tolerable, so I'm indifferent to him now.
