I can't hear it just yet, because I'm not at home, and thus am not using sound, but if they do sound similar (and I love it when songs sound similar), there could have been inspiration. I mean, it has been said that "Electric de Chocobo" drew inspiration from "Wipeout", and I too can hear that, so it's possible.

Yeah, I can hear it. Not surprised since Uematsu is reportedly a big rock & roll fan. I wouldn't be surprised if several of his battle themes couldn't be traced back to one or two classic pieces.

I can hear it, both even change at about the same point (4-5 second range). I wonder if it's intentional.
