Well, assuming you have a legal copy *ahem*, here's something to glance at...
Solution 1
Launch Regedit. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc\FINAL FANTASY VIII\1.00 and you'll see a bunch of keys/values on the right. Among those will be DataDrive (on my computer it's an icon with a red 'a' and 'b' on it). Adjust so it announces which drive you'll play FF8 from. The easiest way to do that is to simply fire up Windows Explorer, put the CD in the drive you want to use (NOTE: You want this attached to your sound-card), look things over, blablabla, try running the game again.
Oh, and while you're using Regedit, add these two entries as DWORDS (and set them to 1!) - assuming your system is newer than Windows 98 with a Voodoo 2:
D3DTextureDivider
D3DTextureOrigin
Solution 2
*Snagged right from Eidos' customer support*
Upon attempting to play the game it asks me to insert disc 1, but the disc is in the drive
Due to the amount of information on the disc, you will need to adjust your CD-Rom settings. To do this go into the control panel, system properties. Click on performance and then file system. Select CD – Rom and you will be able to adjust the supplemental cache size. Upon adjusting the setting you will need to restart your PC. Adjusting these settings should enable to CD drive to read the disk correctly.
thank you very much! i can now play ff8 thanx to your help, i hop its as good as ff7 was five yrs ago:>
thx man.
