Anyone up for a little March Madness?

Yahoo just set up their bracket pickin' thingy, since the tourney isn't too far off on the horizon now, and I thought that we might be able to set up a group to see who's most knowledgable like we did last year.

So who wants some?

OK, #1 seeds are Illinois, North Carolina, Duke, and Washington. I'm a bit surprised about the most latter.

If Duke and UNC win out, that will be quite a Final Four matchup. Potential for one of the best ever.

Okay, head over to Yahoo Fantasy Sports whenever you get a shot and use the following information to join the group I set up.

I'm in like Flint, baby.

Last year I led the until the very end, when my Final Four picks both turned up wrong. Got the whole Final Four though. And 27/32 in the first round.

Yahoo won't let me do my Austin bracket. :/ Go Blue Devils!

wow, possible second round matchup between Cincy and Kentucky. That's a game that is way too long in coming. Of course we'll have to beat Iowa first.

I joined and made some picks. I'm sure I'll suck again.

Finally, something I know something about in the Lounge. This year's NCAA Men's Tournament is gonna rule. I am not just saying that because Iowa, Iowa State and Northern Iowa are in. I seriously think that no one will be able to stop North Carolina. The only team I see them losing to is Kansas. Iowa State will be Minnesota in the first round. We all know that the state of Iowa just rules this year. Good luck to Cincy against the Hawks, you boys are gonna need it. Lets not forget that Northern Iowa lost to Cincy by 6 on the road when the season began. I got all the Iowa teams winning in the first round. My final four is Arizona against Wake Forest and North Carolina vs. Utah. Yeah, Utah is gonna own everyone.

The Captain
03-14-2005, 01:59 AM
Utah's center should be the first pick of the NBA draft.

Take care all.

Holy crap, someone else from Iowa? This is crazy.

Kirobaito

Andrew Bogut may be good, but he's played against Mountain West competition for most of this year - before I start hyping him as the next coming of Larry Bird, I'd like to see him do well in the tournament.

The Prophet
03-14-2005, 04:55 AM
Whats everyones huge upset for the tournament. I have St. Mary's in the Sweet Sixteen, Old Dominion over Mich St. A few more like that. Anyone else think Oklahoma St should have gotten the fourth number 1 seed. Washington is good, but they really don't have an inside game to speak of. They go down against Louisville. Mark it down.

Kirobaito
03-14-2005, 04:59 AM
I'm quite surprised that Oklahoma State/Wake Forest did not get that final #1 seed - I would have put them both above Washington.

And I also have Washington losing in the region, I won't say to who, though.

Strider
03-14-2005, 04:29 PM
Actually, Wake Forest was just the first thing I thought of, Cap'n.

I haven't completely looked over the bracket, but I'm not gonna fill it out just yet. I'd like to be completely alert before I make decisions like that.

seriously. They have underachieved all year, but maybe they will play up to their potential.

Ah, nothing like March Madness. Well, I've got a couple 5-12 upsets and a 4-13 upset in the first round, but I still have three one seeds penciled in for St. Louis. I may have to work on that.

I don't think OK State had finished up the Big 12 title game when the committee made the decision, explaining why Washington received the one seed. I have Wasington and OK State going out in the Sweet 16, though.

Who do you think will be the national player of the year? The conventional wisdom seems to suggest it's down to Bogut and J.J. Redick. Wayne Simien and Chris Paul both have an outside chance as well.

Yeah, Iowa got owned today. I will admit that. The real story so far is Alabama gettin beat and I picked Wisconsin-Milwaukee to win:D . So I own!

If these leads hold out, I'll be 15/16 on day one, which I will most definitely take.

I thought I was the only one that ever watched Cold Pizza.

Anyway, up until 10 minutes ago, this was the finest opening weekend I've ever had whilst pooling, but those freakin' Catamounts just cost me more than I could ever imagine. Hakim Warrick is my worst enemy now, because of that offensive foul he committed in the waning seconds.

I am officially ruined.

Syracuse going down costed me a final four team prediction. :(

The Captain
03-19-2005, 03:07 AM
Vermont - Syracuse was such an odd game as NO fouls were being called in the paint until that obvious Warrick elbow, there was that terrible technical foul called and it seemed like Syracuse was sleep walking through most of the game. All in all, despite my bracket being ruined, I'm very happy for Vermont and I'm now a very big fan of their coach.

Take care all.

29 of 32 wouldn't seem so bad if I didn't lose a Final Four and Elite Eight team in the process - this Bucknell upset was amazing.

However, it is good to see mah boi Keith Langford hit those clutch free throws, even if his team didn't win. I know his brother Kevin, who has since graduated from North Crowley High School, where both of them went.

"I thought I was the only one that ever watched Cold Pizza."

Cold Pizza airs when I'm at class usually, but I heard Mr. Paige gush about Vermont during Around The Horn several times. I assume he's on both programs?

Take care all.

Apparently.

Anyway, check out my post in the group thread. It seems not all is lost.

Indeed, that is true. Level footing is a good thing though if you picked the rest of the rounds as well as the opener, I'd say we're all in for a long few weeks of catch up.

Congrats on your initial picks!

Take care all.

I didn't participate this year since Maryland wasn't in the tournament, so I didn't feel like doing my brackets.

But Kansas and Syracuse falling in the first round really shocked me. I mean these 2 programs have been elite for the past 20 years or so. Good thing I didn't pick my bracket because I NEVER would have picked Kansas or Syracuse to drop the first game.

Duke squeaking by a #16 seed shows me Duke will be ousted in the next round. Duke always bombs a #16 seed. But eh, I guess the ACC is 5-0 with Wake, UNC, Duke, NC State, and Ga Tech. The only perfect conference with 3 or more teams in.

my biggest game of the year is Cincy-Kentucky tonight. My bracket is doing pretty well, though. My only big misses so far are Kansas and Syracuse, but everyone seems to have that problem.

Dingo Jellybean

Damn, Gonzaga got knocked out...they had a 13 point lead in the 2nd half too.

I thought my bracket was fucked up last year...it would've been far worst this year.

go Texas Tech!

My bracket that was once wonderful is now going down the crapper.

I have only 8 teams left in it out of 16. I've lost the team I piced to win it all so I'm in a hole. This is at work, I didn't join this EoFF thing. Just thought I would post that!

Masamune·1600
03-21-2005, 08:12 AM
Well, I didn't do an EoFF bracket, but I did one at college and several of the free ones floating around online. I'm in second place in my college bracket at the moment, but I'm looking good since all of my losses thus far have been relatively contained (e.g. my national title pick is still alive, etc.). I'd have to check, but I believe I called 12 of the 16 teams left.
