FF9- Best FF? or Worst?

I enjoyed this game so much. Though i jus got on the 3rd disk im having a blast with this game. The chars are pretty deep and the story is old school good. But I want opinions from other people on this game. Do you think this game is better then FF8 or 7? OR any other FF

I liked Final Fantasy IX a lot but I didn't enjoy as much as 7 or 8, it just didn't pull me in as much, however I did like it more than 5(I don't hate five I just liked 9 better.)

yeah, i love this game, but its not the best. actually this game changed alot in my opinions, probably because i played it through several courses of aging. when i first got it (9 years old) i was like "omg this is teh bestest game of all time!!!11" then, maybe 2 or 3 years later, replaying it, i said "man this game sucks. i cant believe i ever liked it." now, replaying it yet again, i think to myself "wow, that was pretty damn good, but i mustve been on something the last 2 times i was playing it."

Well, to my opinion, it's really not one of the best among the Final Fantasy series, but it's my favorite. It's kind of in the middle or something. Of course, the first time I played it, I was really hooked to it!

The great graphics, a typical but heart-stealing storyline, great characters (except for Amarant and Quina... it's as if they're almost useless in the game... No offense out there!) and the soothing and almost active music would really intrigue (sp?) you!

But like I say, it's not the worst (For my opinion, FFVIII is the worst of all! NO OFFENSE!!!) but probably, not the best. Actually just one of my favorites! :D :D :D

FFIX was definately one of my favorites... except they screwed up all the character. I couldn't stand Zidane till the last disc. Quinna was annoying. Amarant had tons of potential and was really good but square gave him no story what-so-ever. Garnet just annoyed me for no apparent reason.. Steiner was annoying as hell. Eiko was a brat. The only two welll done characters were Freya and Vivi. But luckily its story, gameplay, and soundtrack make up for it!

There's no cannibalism involved in Quina's actions. As long as Quina doesn't eat another Qu, then all he's doing is cooking up a bunch of monsters. So I think Quina as a growing gourmet chef experimenting with other animals. FFIX was a good game. Each FF has it's great points, and it's bad points. It's a matter of how much you view it. Personally, I think almost all FFs are great, I've played almost all FF out there that I could get my hands on ever since days when I started Atari, then half a year later, there was the NES, and that fueled my gaming more. In my 17 years of gaming, I still am amazed at how much graphics have improved.

That was just a joke. One of my friends didn't like him because he thought he was a cannibal, so I'e made the joke ever since. Seriously though, Quina was my fav. Character in the game. And I've changed my mind, this is the third best FF (I tie it the Tactics).

This is my favorite final fantasy, right next to FFT and then after that it get's fuzzy.

My 'third place' favorite changes between a bunch of them. I've had FFIV, FFV, FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, and FFI all in my third place at some point.


FFIX is simply my favorite, for a lot of reasons. Unique characters, tons of references to the older games, moogles, kuja... those are some great elements. Plus, the excalibur 2 challenge is my favorite FF challenge. Ozma is a great challenge. Great lighthearted environment. Tons and tons of side quests scattered through the game. Tetra mester.

It's just easily the most replayable game in the series for me (except for maybe FFIV, which I seem to replay regularly every 5 or so months).

Final Fantasy IX was the game I grew up on, so it is my favorite by far. I loved the plot. FF9 was what brought me into FF. It was the first game to introduce good 3D graphics. I loved Kuja, even though some people thought he was weird. His motivation for more power was what really drew me into his character. Warning don't read any further for spoilers if u have'nt beaten the game. I thought Kuja was kinda easy though in the end. The movie video of when he explained about how he took power off of the souls of the living to become tranced. I thought that was the coolest part of the game when he started blowing up Terra. It made him seem like a bad a** to me. Some of the people that really bugged me in the game were Queen Brahne (ooohhhhh I couldn't stand her). She was all like ohh get that parchment from my daughter and kill her if u have to. She thought she was a bad a**. I loved the soundtrack. But FF9 would have to be the best one out of the FF series. I think.

I was severely dissapointed with FF IX. It surely did not live up to the standards set by FF VI, FF VII and FF VIII. The graphics were not improved from FF VIII, and although graphics don't necessarily make or break a game per se, the lack of any improvement overall dissapointed me. The characters appeared to be ridiculously unrealistic. Zidane is without a doubt the worst main character of any FF. He possessed none of the qualities that make a great hero. In my opinion, the only 'good' character in the game was Vivi. The plot was unoriginal, being partially ripped off from the Japanese anime Vision of Escaflowne. The bosses of the game were very uninspiring and non-menacing. Kuja was a dork, and a terrible villain. Garland was decent, but lacked the raw power to ever be considered a true villain. I'm sorry, but these two were nothing but random lackeys compared to the likes of Sephiroth, Kefka and Seifer. It was a decent game, but not anything I would ever consider playing again.

Yeah FFIX is one of the best. I was hooked on the game as soon as I got it. I played it every night till I'd completed it, and when I completed it, I did it all over again. I enjoyed the game a lot, but I'm stuck for a favourite between VII, IX and X. :(

FFIX rules. Overall, my favorite FF and IMHo the third best one. Second only to FFVI and FFVII, of course.

Zidane is THE BEST main hero. He isn't "OMFG SO ANGSTY", he is cool, he trusts on himself (a little bit too much, but still), he doesn't use a big sword, he doesn't have yaoi tendency, his relationship with Dagger is great. Etc. Zidane > Squall. In every freaking way.

Dagger is one of the best love interest of the main hero. She isn't brunette like Aeris and Rinoa, she doesn't try to change Zidane (at least she doesn't do it on purpose), she isn't dependant of the main hero (not as much as Rosa and Rinoa, that's sure), she actually thinks, and to finish, she is not related to the FInal Boss xD Dagger > Rinoa. Forever and ever. And ever. And ever. AND EVER.

The other characters are very good overall. Vivi is arguably the best Final Fantasy character ever. He has a HUGE development. Freya is pertty good overall, but she dissapoints a little bit. Quina is AWESOME, his/her simple point of view of the world charms everyone. Eiko is pretty good too, even though she could use another thing instead of White Magic. Amarant... I don't like him, but he is cool, as well. Steiner, he is VERY good, specially in the beginning, when he is SO annoying.

Kuja. He is the villain. He is actually "human". He is so much better than Seifer (IMO the worst villain Fianl Fantasy ever had). Kefka owns Kuja, sure, but Kuja is awesome, anyway. Sure, he doesn't have -the- power, like Sephiroth, but power isn't everything. He has a very good character development, specially after his Trance and in the very end.

Garland isn't that good, but he isn't the principal villain. But he could be bettter.

And for gameplay, side quests and etc. Abilities System OWNS Junction and Sphere Grid, IMHO. It loses to Magicite and Materia, but Abilities are -SO- fun and simple to understand. The side quests are addictive (Hot and Cold = INTASNT WIN with Fatality included). The continents are good, the cities and kingdoms are, as well.

Storyline. Oh my god. It is so good. Starts simple, then it thickens, more and more, until end of CD 2. Then the plot reaches its climax. Bahamut destroying Queen Brahne is -THE SCENE-.

Along with other things. FFIX deserves 200 out of 100.

I think that since these are opinions, we can't know for sure if it's the best or not. But I think FF6 is clearly the best Final Fantasy game EVER! FF7 is absolutely over-rated, it sold a whole bunch of millions of copies so everyone has it and everyone has played it, that's the only reason why people say it's the best, it has nothing special really. Some monsters I tried stealing stuff with zidane and went like 200 rounds before I realized that it wasn't like other ff7 games where it just takes quite a few tries to be able to steal stuff from harder monsters. These same monsters I could steal from easily when I had my whole party with me rather than just zidane. But then I got to the antlion boss and couldn't steal his golden crown/helmet thing after some humongous number of tries. Which was really annoying because he would use this attack which lowers all your characters hp to like 5 and gives them all darkness every couple of turns. THis caused me to go through all of my recovery items just about...

Then theres battles that you automatically lose... I HATE that, and I just got done playing star ocean 2... Its so rediculous when you have enemies that you beat the heck out of them or could beat the heck out of them and then the story line kicks in and it just pretends like you lost the battle.

About stealing. You got -very- unlucky. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. I never had problems with Stealing. I have Thievery doing 1500~2000 damage WHEN I GET IT. I manage to steal Lani's Gladius in 3red attempt, and Coral Sword on the 7th. Rarer items are harder to steal, obviously. The only one that I spent a lot of time was.... Masked Man's Mage Masher XDDDD

And the battles you automatically lose against Beatrix (The only ones you automatically lose, anyway. I don't think that Kuja counts, he doesn't use Ultima in the battle itself o.o; ). And Beatrix kicks your ass, always. And, Beatrix doesn't use Stock Break/Climhazzard and make everyone's HP go down to 1 because you damaged her enough. She does that when the battle dured a certain time.

Actually i disagree. You never realy attached your self to the characters. The game was great in terms of gameplay, but in my opinion it never realy was challenging...it was easier than all the other final fantasies. You said you didnt like ff8, but that was my favourite because the characters were easy to understand.
Despite this it was a great game. Typical final fantasy. Everything you could expect and more.

ya because it just didnt have the great storyline it seems every other FF had. It just ticks me off to see such a great company produce such a horrible game. they graphics were great and i liked how the characters talked instead of having us read them, but all that effort i think personally was wasted. this is just my opinion but i still think it is most possibly the worst 2 Final Fantasy games made, storywise. Has anyone noticed how close the FFXII storyline is a lot like the beginning of FFIX??? How Brahne attacks and gains control of her neighboring lands. And how ???? attacks neighboring countries in ivalice? peace

I'd say IX is my favourite out of all the ones I've played (VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2).

X-2 is awful. I've managed to get to the last boss, but I can't be bothered actually finishing the game. Its a massive disappointment compared to the rest of the series.

Gosh, i'm sorry you're so ignorant. Did you see how much FF7 had advertising? FF7 sold so many copies because of it's advertising that it almost single-handedly made S-E what it is now. Ever looked at the facts? FF7 released at the beginning of the PS run. It was one of the only RPGs. It came from a successful SNES franchise. It had /xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif loads of advertising. Now, why do you think FF8 didn't sell as well, because it was worst? No, because people were disappointed with FF7 so they didn't bother buying more. PERIOD. People say FF7 is the best because it's the only one they have or the only one they have played or also the only one they heard about. People who don't know /xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif about games say it's the best, it is clearly an overrated statement. Get your facts right. You can like it for your opinion, but don't say it's the best just cause you think so.

Best. Yes, I've played almost all FFs (except CC and XI) and I'm yet to find a game so involving, exciting and fun as Final Fantasy IX. Definitely, the best game EVER. I'm not saying the other FFs are bad (FF X rocked my head so hard I had to stop playing it or I'd start to ask for a sequel...hey, that happened) but FFIX has a special place in my heart.

FF9 rocks though it's not as good as 7 which I think is the best game ever created. I like everything about 9 except for the battle system and it's the funniest FF game I've played. But the one thing that I can't really stand about it, apart from the battle system, is the recycled characters from previous games e.g. the strong girl Tifa-Quistis-Freya, the silent loner Vincent-Squall-Amarant, the nice guy Zell-Zidane

The words the the great Ryukishi live on. I'm really sorry If I mispelled your name. Very. It was my first Final Fantasy, and while some have come close none have truly beaten it as my favorite. It took the best of the old and the best of the new and combined them.

I have to be honest, I beat both VII and VIII(VII several times) but I just couldn't get into IX. It's a good game but it just didn't hold me like 7 and 8 did.
