hey so when u guys make these sigs, what program do u use, just photoshop?

Yeah, it's Photoshop for me these days. I got started with Paint Shop Pro way back in the day but switched to Fireworks when the MX version came out. I got comfortable with Fireworks, but eventually started learning the basics of Photoshop at the same time and I now use it exclusively. On the rare occasion that I use Fireworks these days, I stumble around to remember how to do anything. I doubt I'd be able to use PSP at all.

Not really, personally. I try not to get stuck with a specific style, and there's no real common procedures I follow when I start messing around on a blank canvas.

thats really interesting. u guys must have huge imaginations to come up with all those ideas. i need to learn how to use photoshop better and start making these. any tips for a noob on photoshop, like what to start out messing around with etc?

The standard answer would be to read lots of tutorials, but I could probably count every Photoshop tutorial I've ever read on both hands, and I find the best way to learn how to use it is to just mess around with and get comfortable with Photoshop and its various tools.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to read lots of tutorials, though.

I use photoshop and Paintshop pro at the same time. I find that if I use both programs together I can do alot more with my images. :D


I know I have posted here like a million times, but can someone make a siggy for me that has Paine or Rikku (if she has a cute black outfit on that looks good on her) and most likely Paine though, and can she have Black wings on her, and in a cool font with a cool color saying "If you cry in the rain, no one can see your tears..." without the quotation marks. You don't have to make a matching avatar, but you can if you want. I'll look for a Paine or Rikku profile pic if you don't wanna make one. Thanks! And ya'll make the world a better place! Thanks! Ya'll guys rock! Someday, I'll be making sigs and avatars for everybody too!

Sorry...this is the best I could do. I got it down to 40K though...it's just really small and I had to delete some frames. It also now looks really ugly... :p

I kind of made one, but I can't attach it for some reason on a post. It's saved on my computer though.

So, if someone could make one that looks similiar to it, and could host it, that would be terrific.

The only thing that I would appreciate you to change would be so that it looks like it's casting moer of a shadow on his face (like under his eyes & cheek) making him look a bit more......"menacing" & sulken looking. Also if you could make his backround so that it's almost black and that the little flower or whatever it is above his right shoulder sticks out from the black backround, that would be terrific. I just mainly want him to look kind of menacing from the shadows & I want there to be more lighting on his body & surrondings.

Also (sorry I have so many requests) could make his backround old & brown looking near the edges, but not on them so it's kind of like a little black encasing around his body then old brown looking on the outer edges? And maybe have the backround a lighter brown so it looks like old rusted pape. I just want it to look like the pictures is very old and stuff.

What are you saving the file as? Try saving it as a different file type.

It's not because of the file type, it's just whenever I try to attach a picture on a post, my internet doesn't respond to my click.

(BTW, I just figured out how to make my picture I did an avatar. My avatar is a scaled down picture of the image i made. I want my sig to look like that.)

I like the format. Character on right, blown up textured pic in back, cloudy white square border thingie and the character's name in lower left with the game. Its an awesome layout, I was wondering if anyone knows the process of making it. I ask this because there is a slew of RPG characters I want similar wallpapers like this. Rather than request each one, I figure if someone can walk me through making this, I've tried on my own with Paint Shop Pro, but I'm really bad with all art. PLEASE, someone maybe PM me with a little help. Maybe if I get better with PSP, I can help with making sigs and such.

You'll have to get someone to host it for you (so upload it as an attachment and ask for hosting in this thread) or host it yourself. To host it, you upload it to an image hosting site (like photobucket or imageshack) and then copy and paste the link that the site gives you to the image into the sig box and put these tags around it image link goes here

I didnt know how to do a faded black border :( I also didnt get what font looked Japanese...so I just used a fancy one - Any changes you want made just say, or if you want someone else to try then thats cool.

Hehe, it's called the 'grunge' effect, it's designed to look dirty, and it is WAY more difficult to dot he grunge effect than to keep the images unblended.

I'm thoroughly confused. I have an Image that is 100x100 pixels and its file size is 68 KB. I have another image thats 300x430 pixels and is 24KB. The one thats 68 consists of only 4 colors and the 24KB image is over 40 colors. Both are in .jpg format... why?

It might be to do with the amount of layers you used to create the image, although Im not entirely sure. When saving with photoshop, you can lower the quality to decrease the file size.

Also, when creating an avatar, your better off saving it as a gif! As they are very small files :)

its all one layer, I used a lot of layers to make it but I flattened them into one at the end thinking it'd make the image smaller in file size.

When zooming in you'll find that there's a few more than four colors, but it's still not too much for a GIF. I tried saving it as a JPG in Photoshop with a quality of 12 (the highest) and the expected filesize was still only about 10k. Ah, well, whatyagonnado.

That will do it to you. The filesize will also be smaller if you flatten out the image before you save it.

What exactly do you want to do with it? Would you rather someone put the head on a transparent background or do you want someone to attach the psd file?

How do you cut out the background around a picture? I've been playing around with Paint Shop Pro 9 for ages and I still can't figure it out! :p

Can you clarify? Oh, just take the pic and put it on a transparent form. Then use the eraser to erase around the image you want. When you've deleted all of the things you don't want, you copy it and then paste it as a new layer onto the thing you wanted it on.... does that make sense at all??? :fpenerg:

You need to host the image to make it work, I've hosted it for you. Just paste that ^^^^ into the signature part, but remember to take away the *'s.

Isn't an easier way just selecting the pic then right clicking selecting inverse and copying and pasting the inverse?

No. It's at the max width and height limits. He asked for it that size. Although the thanks, while I appreaciate them, they put it over the max height limit. I could shrink it if he wants me to.

=/ I personally dont think sigs should be 1/4 a page big, sigs are normally smaller pictures with a name to enable who you are, or advertising, but meh his choice.

anyways, if people like my style of sig making, i'll try to help out and make some around here. :D

You might have to be more specific as to what you want. o.o Example:

"Hello. If someone here were to make a signature with Cloud and my User Name at the bottom of the picture, I would be very thankful."

Of course, that is just an example. You can ask for whatever you wish.
