Right. Somethings confusing me. In FF7, when you're at the Gold Saucer and you go to the battle square, then you talk to the girl who's still alive at the counter and she says a guy with a gun arm killed them all. When you get arrested and thrown into the desert prison, the people say you have to talk to the "boss". Now aparantly the boss is Dyne. So how did Dyne get to be Boss in such a short time? If he killed those people, surely he'd have been thrown down there straight, and regardless of if he was violent, he can't be the boss. Or how would they have made the chocobo rules? Just because he's there. :S *confused*

I've always assumed that Dyne is down there of his own free will, what with the guilt of what happened at the town and what have you. So he just decided to come up when he heard that Barret was in town, went a bit berserk, and went back down.

I don't know what the heck is the deal with Dyne. Maybe he 'escaped' and then killed a bunch of people, then went down. Or maybe he was free to go up and down from the prison to the gold saucer for some reason? Why he jsut decided to go shoot everyone is beyond me.

I thought Dyne had been down there ever since he Fell off the cliff, and lost his arm.

Which would explain why he was the boss. He would have been able to kill anybody that stood in his way, so people would have got scared of him and decided to make him the 'boss'.

But Dyne couldn't have been there for his free will. Remember he says he wanted to kill the whole world and everyone in it. He didn't seem to want to stop himself either. I mean come on?! He wanted to kill Marlene to take her to see her "mum". Because he was the one who killed everyone, WHY? did Dio arrest them all then?? If he knew a dangerous guy like Dyne was able to go up and down at his own will then don't you think that he would have stopped him in some way?

And as for him being there since he had lost his arm. Barret said he went to the same doctor who engraved his arm with the gun. I know Corel is right next to Gold Saucer, but I highly doubt Dyne would have gone to Corel to get it done, without Barret or anyone else knowing he was alive. Barret said he was never seen again.

I can understand the being scared bit. But it still doesn't explain how he got down there and managed to kill the people in the Battle Arena in the first place. I mean. It wouldn't have taken a few mins or so to become the boss. And again how does it connect with the Chocobo's. They needed the "Bosses" permission to get up there. The boss was Dyne. They must have changed the rules or something, because if not, there must have been a boss before?

It's just all so confusing. lol Squall of Seed you usually come up with good answers. s So answer this for me!!! :P

Well Dyne's probably been the boss for a long time, so he can go up and down as he pleases since he give premission in the first place, he just decide to go kill people one day I guess, and Cloud and the gang happened to come right after.I never thought much of this, Dyne was just weird to me.

It still doesn't make sense. Dyne's ambition was to kill the whole world. Well why didn't he do it?????? If he was there a long time, he couldn't have wanted that revenge as much as he said.

No, that doesn't work. Dyne fell near North Corel, which is separate and located some distance from Corel (which became the Desert Prison after it was partially reclaimed by desert). In any case, Dyne saw the same doctor Barret did, as Barret was aware of another individual getting the gun-grafting surgery.

Barret: There's another... another man that got a gun grafted inta one of his
arms. It was four years ago...

Recall the scene in the past, where we see Scarlet and the Shinra troops firing at Barret and Dyne. Dyne stumbles, almost falls, but Barret grabs him by the arm. Soon, however, the gunfire strikes Barret's arm, and Dyne falls.

Barret: From then on, I couldn't use my right arm no more. ...I was depressed
for a while. But then I threw away my artificial arm and got this gun grafted
in.
Got a new right arm to get revenge on the Shinra, who took everything away...
Back then, I heard the doc say there was another man who got the same operation
as me. But, his was the left arm.

As to the initial question:

How exactly Dyne ends up in the Desert Prison is unknown. Since the Desert Prison is Corel, however, it's completely understandable that he retains a connection to the location. Given his obvious and dangerous instability, it's also not surprising that Dyne could have risen to the boss position. Finally, while the specifics are not explicated, it is alluded to that Dyne may have had certain freedom of movement unavailable to others trapped there.

Cloud: Where are we?

Cait Sith: A desert prison... Corel Prison...

Cloud: A desert prison?

Cait Sith: Yup, a natural prison in the middle of the desert...surrounded
entirely by quicksand. I heard that once you get in, you never get out... But,
there was one special exception...

While the special exception could refer to the chocobo jockey exemption, I don't think that is what this segment of dialogue implies. My view is that Dyne had been established as the boss for some time before he killed the people in the Gold Saucer. It also seems unlikely that Dio was fully aware, if at all, of Dyne.

I'm assuming that Dyne didn't lash out at the world as he could hear Elanor's voice in his head (real or imagined) telling him not to do it, the same as he said she was telling him not to hate Barret and that being why he didn't hunt him down:

Dyne
"I hear her voice, Eleanor's voice. Begging me... not to hate
your rotten guts."

Dyne
"That's why I didn't hunt you down..."

As for how he got up into the Gold Saucer, that seems to be something of a plothole. The indication offered is that Dyne didn't give permission to leave the prison period so much as he gave permission for them to go up and participate in a Chocobo race, which would grant them their freedom if they won:

Mr. Coates
"You want somethin'?"

Barret
"I want to go up."

Mr. Coates
"Like I told you before, you gotta get the Boss' permission, then
win the Chocobo....."

Barret
"Dyne's got his reasons an' can't speak."
"So, I got this instead."

::Barret shows him Elanor's pendant::

Mr. Coates
"Yeah, bull--!!"

Barret
"I want to go up."

Mr. Coates
"R, right."
"Did you kill Dyne?"
"You must've. Or you'd never be holding that thing."
"So Dyne's dead... Maybe now, the place'll calm down a little."
"Dyne didn't care who anyone was......"

Barret
"The hell do YOU know!!"

Mr. Coates
"R... ri.... right! I mean, no, I DON'T know anything.
S, s... sorry."

Cloud
"Then, will you get us outta here?"

Mr. Coates
"Huh? Oh man, you guys are mistaken."

Mr. Coates
"I already told you, there's only one way to get outta here."
"That's to win the Chocobo Race and that's help up there, in the
Gold Saucer."

Perhaps Dyne wasn't a prisoner there in the first place, and just chose to stay there? That way, if Dio was aware of him, he may not have felt he had reason to suspect him of the crime since he was always about, perhaps keeping the prisoners in-line?
