Just curious how many people are willing to buy new systems to continue their Final Fantasy experience. As everyone knows they are releasing FF3 on the new Nintendo DS and I'm going to buy one so I can play it. when FFX first came out I bought a PS2 because I knew the new FF games would all be coming out on PS2 and since they have expanded to GBA and Gamecube I really dont play video games too much anymore exept for FF. I guess what my question is how many people think it is worth it to keep buying these new systems just to keep playing Final Fantasy?

thinking of names is hard

nope.

Hmmm...need to add more. You should buy consoles for more than one game. Dont forget ff isnt the only decent games worht playing.

i got the PS1 only b/c of great games like Final Fantasy VII made me do it. then, my bro bought me a G-Cube so that i can play Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. systems like GBA/PS2, well, i bought them b/c who wouldn't buy new consoles when they have the chance to? of course, i knew some new FF games would be debuting along the way.

obviously, Final Fantasy is going to have a lasting relationship with Sony's PlayStation family. of course, i'm not getting XBOX 360 just to play FFXI, something i already possess.

when do i buy a console? not for a single remake of the FF series, but quite certainly, if there will be other installments, which i have to approve worthy (e.g., not a bunch of remakes). and, i don't always buy them because of FF.

Right, but this is a general FF thread, so its gotta be based on only FF.

No, I will NOT buy DS because of FFIII. I think DS is a big peice of crap thats going to fail worse than the Turbo Grafix 16 and Virtual Boy. I'm not gonna buy something so crappy for 1 shining gem.

The same goes with the rumors of FF jumping to X-Box. Until numerous FFs go to the X-Box I'm not going to buy one. X-Box has yet to come out with a single RPG worth playing. Fable was horrible, so i heard form everyone who's played it. Jade Empire I saw looked okay, but not console purchase worthy. I don't see buying a new system just for final fantasy. Unless FFXIII comes out on it and theres a schedule of other FF games to be released on it, then I'd consider it.

But for the most part, no, i wouldn't buy a system for just one game.

Case and Point. In the days before Dreamcast but after genesis, Sega had a system called the Saturn and a system called Sega CD. Both featured 1 game that i really wanted to play. (Shining Force III and Shining Force CD respectively) but since there was no other games that I wanted for that system, i didn't buy it. Sure i haven't played SFIII of SFCD yet, but its worth it to not spend all that money on something that isnt worth it all. SFIII I'm sure is awesome and SFCD is cool from what ive seen, but I'll wait til i can get it another way.

I'm sure that down the line Revolution will have an adapter to the console that will allow the usage of DS games, to which then will be the way i'll buy FFIII. Or, when Square sees that DS sales of FFIII arent good because the DS is a crap system, they'll release it on a different system.

Heh, there's no real need to buy the systems that can be easily emulated. (snes, nes, gba)

yup, i dont see many other games for DS that i would play besides FFIII, so i im not going to get one. and PSP for that matter, but thats not really on topic.

but, uhm, i think i will keep buying new systems to continue my FF experience, but only if there are other games that i would want to play for that system. also, FF would have to be devoted to that console for future installments;i wouldn't buy it for just one FF.

DO NOT WASTE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS BUYING EVERY OTHER PLATFORM!!! (especially not the terrible nintendo-ds) Square-Enix has a strong relationship with Sony Entertainment, obviously. I think that regardless of the other titles on different platforms (which are mostly remakes anyway), the best games will always be reserved for Playstation. As rubah said, there is no point buying a game that can be easily emulated. As far as XI cominig out on 360, they can have it. If you really want to play the game, buy it for PC. As an owner of the original XBOX (yes, i am ashamed), I can tell you that I have regretted wasting my money on that huge piece of hardware. All of my favorite titles come out for PS2 anyway...final fantasy, grand theft auto, metal gear....

First-please tone it down with those caps.
Second-people can waste hundreds of dollars buying every other platform if they want to, I know that if I could afford it I would.
Third- there is nothing to be ashamed about owning an xbox. If you had said gamecube I would agree with you, but you didnt.

I wouldnt want to buy an entire system just for one game anyways, what would be the point. If you got tired of that game and wanted to switch to another you would have to change the entire console you are using. I already made the mistake of buying a console for one game and will never be so naive as to do it again.

Since Im limited on time, I have to limit myself to only say half a dozen titles or so a year, that means whichever console will have the most square/enix RPGs on it, as well as a select few other titles, thats the box for me. My best guess is that sonys console will be that box, but we shall wait and see.Im not buying any new console till after I complete FF XII so that should be plenty of time to make my choice. :D

I've never once bought a game console just for one game or one series. I HAVE however bought a game console on a whim because it looked like it would have good games and then bought only one or two for it (Virtual Boy and NGPC spring to mind). I also first bought my Playstation for an odd reason... I had a friend with a Playstation. When Mega Man 8 came out, it was only available for Playstation and Saturn. I weighed the options of which version I was more interested in, and decided to get the PS1 version since I didn't know anyone with a Saturn. After a while it became apparent that the PS1 had a slew of games I wanted, so I bought one anyway.

I will never get a game console JUST for a Final Fantasy game. I WILL get a console if it has a Final Fantasy game and at least 5 other games that I want. For this reason, I WILL buy a DS (Kirby Canvas Curse, Wario Ware, Feel The Magic XX/XY, Puyo Pop Fever, Polarium, as well as the upcoming FFIII and FFCC), but I'll wait a good while longer before picking up a PSP (Other than Lumines, there's nothing for it I particularly want, so the promise of Crisis Core isn't enough to pique my interest, not yet anyway). Same thing happened when I got a Gamecube. I asked myself "do I really want this?" then looked at what was out for it. I decided there were enough games for it that I wanted to warrant buying one (Zelda: Wind Waker, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Viewtiful Joe, Soul Calibur 2, Resident Evil, and finally FFCC).

I reccomend the same to everyone. Granted, the best policy would be to just buy every console so you won't have to limit your options, not everyone can afford this. Just buy the consoles that have a good amount of games that you already want. Even then, try to get it used. :D

There would have to be other worthwhile games on the system.

Well, I'm gonna buy PS3 mostly for FF and KH, but if other good games come along, which i'm sure they will, I will buy them as well. I bought KH: CoM even though I don't own a GBA, why? For collection purposes, my friend has a GBA so if I want to play it I can ask him to lend it to me, otherwise I use emulators. I will most likely buy FF3 for the DS but not the DS itself because it is a piece of /xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif/xxx.gif. I plan on buying a GC because it is completely inexpensive and because I wanna get FF:CC and also the Zelda's I missed, and maybe even RE4. FF is a big reason why I keep buying platforms but it sure isn't the only one and I damn sure think it is worth it.

I bought a PS1 just so I could play Final Fantasy games, but granted, I did it about six months ago, and it only cost me about $30 for the system.

I'm considering getting a PS2 eventually, but I want prices to drop a bit first. Considering there's about five games I wanna play exclusively on PS2 (versus the two and a half I got the PS1 for), I'll probably get it sooner rather than later.

Im slowly seeing the wisdom in waiting until prices drop on systems,by then you have access to a nice library of great games at great prices. I just rescently bought another PS0ne (the small one) with LCD screen
for 50 bucks, and Ive been using it more than my PS2 lately.

I am going to buy a DS just to play FFIII, but then again I am a nut. Also DS plays GBA games and has Castlevania coming too.

I did buy a PSX just for FFVII. I bought a PS2 because it's backwards compatible. From what I hear, so will the PS3. So I'm pretty much set with sticking to the PlayStation series, regardless of whether I still like FF or not.
