We've probably already had a poll like this but lets keep it for the hell of it

Evil is too broad a category…how do you define evil?

Project G
09-23-2005, 12:31 PM
As in main bad guy eg Sephiroth and Kefka

Err…yeah. Already worked that part out.

I mean what type of evil? I mean there is mindless destructive evil, revenge oriented evil, cruel dictatorship evil, ruthless/ambitious evil etc.

So, which do you consider to be the most evil? Is it possible to compare the categories? Can anyone truly say that someone killing for fun like Kefka is any more evil than killing for a purpose like X-Death or killing because you think it’s the right thing to do like Seymour?

That doesn't really answer my question....

Hmmm, one has to wonder, has there ever been a truly evil Final Fantasy villain?

Once again, it is really hard to define evil. Is Kefka evil, or just mentally deranged? Is X-Death Evil, or just incredibly selfish? Is Kuja evil, or just pissed off at life?

Hojo is perhaps the most evil villain ever. Let's do a checklist:

(*) Experimented on his own child/wife
(*) Killed one of his closest friends
(*) Experimented on the main protagonist
( ) Released the single "Lady in Red"
(*) Attempted to destroy something on a grand scale
(*) Manipulated others to work towards his own personal goals
( ) Destroyed the world
( ) Ate others to absorb their powers

Wow, five stars. Not bad.

In terms of being underrated as an evil character, Dycedarg wins easily.

Actually Sephiroth, Hojo and Kefka are villians in training compared to
.....

Zidane!

Was Squaresoft on the biggest all nighter ever when they made this atrocity?

I'd say Dycedarg definitely gets a lot of credit for the underrated but utterly evil guy. He has got to be one of the most manipulative and self-serving bastards to ever grace an FF game.

Yeah, Hojo is pretty messed up. I think I'll agree with that. I was very satisfied when he was no more.

A tree so evil it takes the form of a man only to destroy everything?

Ex-Death for the win.

Kefka was probably the worst villian of all the villians. He took whatever and whenever he wanted, pretty much slautered the espers, removed a whole section of earth then splitit into a billion pieces and made all plant life pretty much die. Oh, he also poisoned the water of Figaro Castle, killing everyone who drank it. (Everyone Cyan cared for especially his family.) That was just really evil. That tower he built which could zap vanyone he opposed and all of the monsters he released. He was just a horrible person. Not giving a care what happened to others for his own self gain. (Take over the world anyone?) It's good that Locke, Terra and co. put a stop to him.

Evil is really just a point of view. But I say Hojo... seriously what the heck was up with him!

Hojo, for the same reasons as Maxx Power.

I actually pointed out on another thread like this several months ago that I too felt Hojo was a pretty evil, twisted person. He experimented on his wife (Which killed her), as well as his son, killed (we can assume) Vincent Valentine and preformed an operation on him that causes him to transform into a mindless beast when he is angry enough, killed Gast, tried to force-breed a human and a tigerlike creature, and tried to assist his son in destroying the world. Not to mention that he set into motion the events that nearly destroyed the world. (Experimenting on his son) Its kind of hard to say what caused him to do it. I mean, it obviously wasn't for fame, otherwise he would have let everyone know that he was Sephiroth's father. There doesn't appear to be a reason he would want to control the world. Of course, Hojo seemed to have been controlled partially by Jenova, at least during his experiment on his wife, but for that to have happened he would have to already have been at least slightly insane to begin with. I suppose he did it just for the advancement of science. Whatever his reasons are, he truely was very evil.

Dycedarg is also very underrated, and Kuja isn't necessarily the most evil, but I liked his style of manipulation the best.

Your "view on evil" is like saying the black mage is evil. Darkness does not make one evil it is more or less misunderstood. :)

shuuyin was very malicious, which can be seen in the scenes in the Den of Woe.

Kekfa was evil for fun.

X-Deth wanted the power of the Void

Sephiroth wanted to become a god (x-deth)

ultimecia wanted to. . . either gain power from time compression or be the only person able to exist.

kuja. . . heck if I know xD wanted to flaunt his being a j-pop star?

Yu Yevon wanted to remain immortal, clad in his unholy armor.

From what I remember of ff7, hojo was an idiot. But it's been a while.

I don't think any villian has ever pissed me off as much as queen brahn has.

I don't think any villian has ever pissed me off as much as queen brahn has.
Nor was there a more ugly villian in any Final Fantasy.

An honorable mention goes to FFIV's re-release translation team, who destroyed one of the best mistranslations ever.

All of the heroes were evil too, monsters have feelings too. Eating isn't a crime is it?

I think Kefka was. He just liked to kill things. No reason really. He gained power for just that one thing. To kill more things on a grander scale. Kill Kill Kill Kill Kill. Mwhahahahahahaha
