yes, I thought the main name was official ball, but that is just his starting ball
so was it the right answer?, is it my turn? or do I have to be more specific?
Firo Volondé

You might as well take it. If somebody had guessed "Official ball" before Sain Cai said it was correct, there would be an issue, but you were the closest.
Sain Cai
02-18-2007, 03:15 PM
yes the answer was a blitzball. I was looking for the name of the one that wakka starts with (since that is the type that is used in tournaments) but seeing how there are like 15 different attributes & names for that specific blitzball, there isnt a set name. well enuff of my rambling, Timster was correct.

It can be big or little - Flans? They change size all the time...
The machinery behind the face - No idea unless you're on about Bahamut's Cloister of Trials in Bevelle which was laden with forbidden Machina despite it being the capital of Yevon and everything.
Warrior maidens of legend - Amazons?
Siegfreid's flame was one - Some kinda dragon's breath... so Bahamut's Mega Flare perhaps?
Ferrous limbs abound
Auric limbs as well
Well ferrous means Iron, so metallic, and Auric meaning Gold (this explains why they're Fe and Au, respectively, on the periodic table) so these are probably types of machina.

Repost:
It can be big or little
The machinery behind the face
Warrior maidens of legend
Siegfreid's flame was one
Ferrous limbs abound
Auric limbs as well
There are six answers, and are related to Al Bhed in some way.
My guess is Rikku's weapons. That would explain the riddle being in Al Bhed.
It can be big or little - Rikku's weapons range in size from the Claw to Godhand, which covers most of her arm.
The Machinery behind the face - Not sure about this.
The second set most likely refers to Brunhild, with whom Siegfried was infatuated with, his 'flame' if you will. She was also a Valkyrie (Warrior maidens of legend) . 'Brunhilde' is also a weapon for Rikku with four Magic +...% abilities.
Ferrous limbs - Rikku has weapons called Iron Claw (3 Strength +...%), Ironside (Overdrive -> AP), and Iron Grip (Capture).
Auric limbs - Rikku's weapon with Triple AP, Golden Arm.
ReloadPsi
02-20-2007, 04:39 PM
Then the machinery behind the face is Clockwork. You are of the win, I think.
BG-57
02-21-2007, 01:05 AM
Oo...so close.
Five of the six are correct:
It can be big or little
The machinery behind the face (Clockwork)
Warrior maidens of legend (Valkyrie)
Siegfreid's flame was one (Brunhilde)
Ferrous limbs abound (Iron Claw)
Auric limbs as well (Golden Arm)
The pairing of lines is significant.
Firo Volondé
02-21-2007, 05:17 AM
Valkyrie and Brunhilde - magic increasing weapons,
Golden Arm and Iron Claw - I don't see how these are related, unless you mean Ironside, in which case they are both AP-increasing weapons,
Clockwork is Slowstrike, so the other weapon also inflicts a status effect? In which case, it would be Colossus.

I'm so stupid!
Big or little is "Clock hand", which I looked at and completely ignored because of the machinery behind the face!

Firo Volondé
02-21-2007, 12:08 PM
They're all Rikku's weapons, so I guess that would be the answer. Much like the "Cloud's swords" riddle in the FFVII Riddles.
BG-57
02-21-2007, 08:48 PM
Correct, the last weapon is Clock Hand.
There's no overall theme other than being Rikku's weapons, but each pair has related names.

02-24-2007, 12:57 AM
My guess is Time Magic
Halfway along its journey it was in a class of its own - In FFV, Time Magic had its own class.
Now it's been bleached and dispersed - Some were put in White Magic (Haste, Slow, Regen, Reflect), and some in Black Magic (Demi). Also, 'bleached' could be Demi only doing 1/4 HP damage in FFX, not 1/2.
Except for one that's darkened over the ages - Not sure
A few can be seen, but never had - Some time magic is only used by opponents, like Quarter (now called Gravija) and Mute (Silence).
Many paths must be travelled to get the rest - You have to go all over the Sphere Grid to get the spells; Haste and Slow are in Tidus' grid, Regen and Reflect in Yuna's grid, Demi in Lulu's, etc.
ReloadPsi
02-24-2007, 01:28 AM
Bloody hell! That was sudden!
Lemme patch up the holes you left, good sir!
Halfway along its journey it was in a class of its own
Indeed, FFV had Time Magic as its own class. And 5 is halfway to 10.
Now it's been bleached and dispersed
All the Time Magic you can have is White Magic, on two different Sphere Grid paths; namely the defaults of Tidus (Haste, Slow, Slowga, Hastega) and Yuna (Regen).
Except for one that's darkened over the ages
Demi's Black instead of White (and on Lulu's default path). Or grey, as it appeared in FFV.
A few can be seen, but never had
Meteor and Gravija.
Many paths must be travelled to get the rest
You gotta go down three different characters' default paths to get all those which are actually available to you.
Incidentally, Reflect isn't actually a Time spell and to my knowledge never has been. However, FFV did have that variation on Silence that muted everyone, enemies and allies.
Nevertheless Meister Firo, it's your go; frankly I thought you deserved my go but I couldn't resist this riddle. Sorry dude... anyways, give us your best shot!
(Anyone who knows me well enough would have guessed this in seconds; most of my friends know how much I love Time Magic.)
Firo Volondé
02-25-2007, 01:01 AM
Reflect is actually a Time Magic spell in FFXII and both Tactics games. But that doesn't matter now. This riddle I've put a lot of effort into, and is very hard - so don't get disocuraged!
Unique tool of death takes two steps;
Take Olympic blade from sportsman's hand,
Masamune, mercury, and shotgun come later and younger.
Lover of these two mourns stolen treasure,
Stolen treasure wields stolen power,
Which strikes at aid of scaly beast.
Such beast fears the gastro prison,
Near hope of human spirit,
Hope that rests on two things only,
Which is bigger?
Note: The answer is in two parts. The first links to the first paragraph, the second to the second paragraph. The answers are not related.

I'm also guessing the Scaly Beast is Sahagin. One get eaten by Geosgaeno, which has a visible cage-like stomach (Gastro Prison).

I have a funny feeling the second passage is Anima, with all the mourning of stolen treasure referring to the activation of destruction spheres, and how the gastro prison, which according to BG is Geosagno, has to be fought first.

Does the first one have anything to do with Auron's celestial weapon, the rusty blade or something like that?

Is the Olympic Blade the Fencing Saber?
I'm also guessing the Scaly Beast is Sahagin. One get eaten by Geosgaeno, which has a visible cage-like stomach (Gastro Prison).
Well done on the Olympic blade, I thought nobody would get that.
You can also forget lines four to six, you've rendered them completely unnecessary.
I have a funny feeling the second passage is Anima, with all the mourning of stolen treasure referring to the activation of destruction spheres, and how the gastro prison, which according to BG is Geosagno, has to be fought first.
Half-right reasoning, right conclusion. The answer is not Anima, though.
Does the first one have anything to do with Auron's celestial weapon, the rusty blade or something like that?
It may do. However, Auron's sword is not the only Masamune in existence.
Firo Volondé
02-28-2007, 09:22 AM
Ah, nobody wants to take a guess? I'm even simplify the riddle:

are the masamune and mercury referring to the sword and the crest/sigil?

Firo Volondé
03-07-2007, 05:32 AM
neither masamune nor mercury refer to their FFX counterparts.
Some more hints for the last line:
Masamune is to do with another game made by Squaresoft. (as in before it became Squenix.)
Mercury is to do with chemistry.
Shotgun is to do with what kind of people use a shotgun.
'Later but younger' refers to at a later period of the game (compared to the second line), but with a younger person.
Also, BG was on the right track before with the second line.
ReloadPsi
03-07-2007, 05:51 PM
The Customise menu? It comes up when Rikku joins the party, and she appears relatively late, as well as being the apparent youngest of the cast. It sounds like you're referring to weapons that can be made by means of customisation... hrmm.
Could "Mercury" be "Liquid Steel"? I know they're both different metals but mercury's a metal that
Shotgun might mean "Hunter's Sword", unless there's a hidden "Passenger Seat" armour I've not heard of.
Wait, I think I got it: Brotherhood. Liquid Steel and Hunter's Sword have Waterstrike and Sensor respectively, both of which that weapon automatically gains upon meeting Rikku. It's also a unique weapon, a unique tool of death.
I've completely missed out everything to do with Masamune, which only tells me I'm bang wrong and talking a load of twaddle.
Firo Volondé
03-08-2007, 07:00 AM
Sorry, but you're wrong about talking a load of twaddle. Correct.
Unique tool of death - one in the game, is a sword (AKA tool of death)
Takes two steps; - two events to get Brotherhood fully powered
Take Olympic blade from sportsman's hand - you obtain the sword itself from Wakka (a sportsman); at this point it only has Strength +5% on it, making it the equivalent of a Fencing Saber
Masamune - Strength +10%, when you customise this onto a sword it becomes Soldier's Sword, which could be used as a description of FF7 Masamune
Mercury - Waterstrike, found on the sword Liquid Steel. Mercury is a metal that is in a liquid state at room temperature.
Shotgun - Used for hunting. Hunter's Sword is produced by Sensor.
Later and younger - These abilities are added to the sword later, not after meeting Rikku, but after the scene in the Farplane when Wakka talks to Chappu (his younger brother).
Your go Psi.

Firo Volondé
03-16-2007, 12:55 PM
Would it be Pray/White Wind?
Specially cheapened to a Herculean cost - Pray is a special ability, costs no MP.
Though weaker, the purpose remains the same - The same as White Wind, but not as potent.
May lead some to believe it was all but lost - Maybe some people thought White Wind wouldn't be in this game?
Yet Kimahri remembers its former name - White Wind is only usable by Kimahri as a Blue Magic skill.

With several shapes, colors and sizes, three different forms

and from the ancient greeks, a medusa is the final form
you may notice a resemblance.
Beware,

Ahriman is (I think) the death god in (again, I think) Ancient Zoroastrianism.
In ancient times over land and sea,
A group of people worshipped me;
Many feared, many did repent,
I was given the name Slayer of Serpents - I'm assuming this refers to the deity as it is in the religion, if it is indeed the death god, i can understand why they would fear it.
In a more spirited time, I've lost my light
My prowess, my speed, and even my fight
Flames and bolts will pierce right through
Before I can even attack you. - Being a floating-eye enemy, it is certainly not an impressive fight in FFX, although I can't entireley explain the 'Flames and Bolts' part.

maybe poseidons weapon was a trident, like a spear which kimahri uses, spirit lance is found in thunder plains where you will also find cactuars (bolts) who are also found in bikanel (fire). my guess is cactuars as they are easier in this game than they have been in previous games.

In ancient times over land and sea,

Many feared, many did repent
I was given the name Slayer of Serpents - I think Varuna is a deity of some kind in Vedic religion, and although I'm not sure about the Slayer of Serpents part, he is sometimes depicted holding a noose made of a snake.
In a more Spirated time, I've lost my light
My prowess, my speed, and even my fight
Flames and bolts will pierce right through
Before I can even attack you. - As Varuna is just a common monster in FFX, I can't imagine its power being anywhere near that of a god. "I've lost my light" also fits, as it is a Dark monster which takes extra damage from the Holy element.

In a more Spirated time, I've lost my light
My prowess, my speed, and even my fight
Flames and bolts will pierce right through
Before I can even attack you. - I think this is a reference to the compulsory fight in which you have to summon Valefor to kill a Garuda which attacks your party, and of course Garuda is no match for your Aeon. I'm pretty sure the 'Flames and bolts' part describes Valefors Sonic Ray Overdrive, which quite seriously whips the Garuda's behind.

Greed is not referring to Gil.

It is, but which one?
Nemesis?
It's still not Nemesis.

It might be greedy for AP? In that case Don Tonberry or Cactuar King. If I can only take one guess, Don Tonberry.

You are correct! The answer is Don Tonberry. :)
Not your destiny (Optional Fiend, also has an attack called Karma)
But offers much (Best way to get AP)
And tempts the greedy (People that want AP)
Would you refuse? ('An offer you can't refuse' is a reference to the Godfather, Don Corleone)

Alright, I've been waiting for a turn to do this one...
I'm a immovable obstacle
But if you fill me with wonder
With the winning speed
You'll claim the prize over yonder

I'm guessing this has something to do with the thunder plains quest...
I'm a immovable obstacle (Thunder plains pillars)
But if you fill me with wonder (dunno bout this)
With the winning speed (to dodge lighting you have to be fast)
You'll claim the prize over yonder (the prize for doing the quest is probably over the other side of the thunder plains)

i think it refers to the butterfly hunt
I'm a immovable obstacle --> can't touch the see-throught chest until u complete it
But if you fill me with wonder --> every time u grab a blue butterfly a "ghostly" chest falls into the one already there, therfore "filling" it
With the winning speed --> gotta be fast for the best prize
You'll claim the prize over yonder --> the chest is always a little walk away from the final butterfly

No, it's not the Thunder Plains sidequest. That is good reasoning, devil, but it's not the butterfly hunt either. 4evarisha is on the right track.
The answer is a specific person.
