Delay Buster?

Firo Volondé
06-25-2007, 12:33 AM
Should "quickest rival" be taken in the literal sense? (as in, enemies with the highest Agility stat). Dark Bahamut, Dark Shiva and Penance are the only enemies with 255 Agility, while Nemesis and Fenrir are the fastest in the non-PAL version, with 200 Agility. The only ability that would fit in is Zanmato, but that's already been said.

Sounds like one of Tidus's overdrives, to me, but I don't think that's considered an ability. Anyways, here's my reasoning.

Persistence is key - In order to gain Tidus's overdrives, you have to meet use requirements. Persistence in using the overdrive is key to gaining more powerful overdrives.

Accuracy is vital - You have to be accurate to hit R1 at the appropriate time to accomplish the overdrive.

Quickest Rival - Doesn't really fit. nevermind. xD

Nope, it isn't an overdrive. The quickest rival part is really the only essential part of the whole riddle. The rest, I'll leave up to you to decide.

I'm thinking of the Mug ability, since you have to have persistance to get the item you want, you need good accuracy to actually snag something, but the quickest rival ability doesn't really fit. Though, you do need to be quick with Agility mug certain enemies.

Overkill isn't an ability, but I thought I would at least mention it.

Firo Volondé

But now all that has gone
I sit alone, hidden from most eyes - It's found in a lone treasure chest on top of a pillar, that you can't see from the bottom of the pillar

The third line makes me think of Tonberries' Karma attack, which deals damage based on how many fiends, or "souls", you have killed: is it anything to do with that? Bribing Tonberries earns you Amulets, which can be used for Mix or to customise Pickpocket onto armour. And the first line could well refer to Bribe, since it 'solves' two problems at once; defeating the monster, and collecting rare items that in some cases, you can't get from Stealing or as drops. So, though I'm probably way off, I'll say Bribing Tonberries.

It's not Tonberries that have to be bribed in this case.

There is mystical significance to the number.

Shiny

Solutions to your problems - Remedy
Just consult your opponent - Bribe
The same amount as souls - The gil cost of the bribe is the same amount as the monster's HP
On the day of judgement

I'm gonna guess Sandragora, because you bribe alot of remedies from it and it's HP might be the same amount as the gil it costs to get the remedies. And it causes status ailments with it's attack; which can be cured with the remedy.

BG-57

But iunno. Like 666? 999? 14?!

The number of the beast or 666 is mentioned in Revelations and most likely a coded reference to Neron Caeser (Nero), who famously persecuted Christians at the time it was written. But there's another number I was looking for.

Isn't the last chapter of The Book of Revelation (chapter 22) the 21 amendments?

Firo Volondé
07-23-2007, 10:25 AM
The souls part makes me think the number found in Revelation refers to people, or at least sentient beings. There is 144,000 as in the number of people that God saved

Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel. (Rev 7:4)

but there isn't even a monster in FFX, let alone one that can be Bribed for Remedies, with 5760 HP (the amount needed to be Bribed for a minimum of 144,000 gil). My other line of thought is the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. In fact, now that I think about it, that's exactly the number I need.

Solutions to your problems - we've established that it's Remedy
Just consult your opponent - we also know that this is Bribe
The same amount as souls - You can Bribe one of four, and only four monsters, to get Remedies; Ragora, Sandragora, Grat, and Ochu.
On the day of judgement - Four Horsemen

I don't know how to put this into a logical answer, so I'll say four is the number you're thinking of, for the above reasons.

And BTW, 42 actually does exist in Revelation...

But exclude the outer court; do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles. They will trample on the holy city for 42 months. (Rev 11:2)

:D

It's found on Thundar Plains (where it rains a lot) and you have to free it by activating Qactaur stones and following the ghost-like Qactaur.

i think the last paragraph is something to do with yuna's pilgrimage

Not knowing the truth, yet fearing the past, --> she doesn't know that there isn't a final aeon and worries about dying when beating sin, as other summoners have in the past
Yet you you prevail, the trio will help, --> she defeats sin and Yu yevon
But beware, though the enemies death comes fast, --> yu yevon is surprisingly easy to kill, as are you aeons after theyve been transformed, most likely because of constant auto-life
But the strong become weak, just like that little whelp. --> the strong aeons that fought beside you become weak enemies, and with each one you kill, the "little whelp" (yu yevon) becomes weaker too.

Hmmm... I reckon it could be Sin.

A sight revered, yet with the sound of death, - Lots of people are in awe of Sin, but he kills them (I think I'm way off:p )
Found in the darkness, with other's waiting, - Um... it's dark when you fight your aeons?
One of the few, who doesn't kill with it's breath, - Does Sin use a breath attack at any stage? This may be referring to Giga Gravitron, which Sin only uses when its mouth is fully open.
Many who tried, found themselves failing. - Many have completed the Final Summoning, but none really succeed in destroying Sin

Not knowing the truth, yet fearing the past, - Yuna and co. don't know the truth about the Final Aeon.
Yet you you prevail, the trio will help, - Jecht, Auron and Braska? You see bits and pieces of their pilgrimage at Zanarkand and through Jecht Spheres
But beware, though the enemies death comes fast, - Dunno. Yu-Yevon has not much HP perhaps?
But the strong become weak, just like that little whelp. - Yu-Yevon starts off strong (as Sin) but ends up weak (his final form)

Ok, here goes:

A sight revered, yet with the sound of death,
Found in the darkness, with other's waiting,
One of the few, who doesn't kill with it's breath,
Many who tried, found themselves failing.

The first stanza refers to stealing them from Ultima Weapon in the Omega Ruins.

Not knowing the truth, yet fearing the past,
Yet you you prevail, the trio will help,
But beware, though the enemies death comes fast,
But the strong become weak, just like that little whelp.

This stanza refers to the Trio of 9999 Overdrives making all your character do 9999 damage each attack, thus making the weak strong. And that Omega was banished to the ruins, which you get the wings of discover from him and that forms the mix of trio of 9999.

jsut sharing ideas, i think the 3rd and 4th lines refer to bribing. it only takes 1 hundred (maybe 1 hundred thousand?) to complete the bribe and make the enemy leave, but if u bribe 2 hundred u get something extra. fiends that cost 100,000 to bribe are garuda and grat. i'm gonna say garuda cos wen u see them on the highroad, they are close the the al bhed camp where the sinspawn (the demonic?) are being held to draw sin.

Unless the answer is a certain weapon ability, that would eliminate everything but Brotherhood and the Celestial Weapons. I think it's the Jecht Sphere scene in which Jecht gets hit by a bolt of lightning, and Auron makes some slightly derisive comments. It's filmed by Auron.

Hold on! You look tired, you should take a breather - Auron and Braska caution Jecht against trying to dodge a bolt.
Tell me, way out there, how's the weather? - Auron and Braska are under shelter, while Jecht is out in the very stormy open.
*Hic*! Now you're not so tough... - "Now there's a scene for posterity!"
I burn, but don't bother packing Crimson stuff - Auron and Braska burn with laughter, while Jecht burns with embarassment (Not to mention some nasty lightning marks)? Not so sure about the 'Crimson Stuff' bit...

I think it's his (Auron's) overdrives... the one way up there is the shooting star and the last the fire tornado and the *hic* is banishing blade where drinks from his sake jug...

And 'breather' refers to Dragon Fang's delay effect.

Correct! I'm surprised it managed to last that long. Your turn Timster.

Oki the new riddle... (it's been a while so don't judge me too hard...)

Great I am, and
one of a kind, but
don't get too carried away now!

heaven doesn't grant you
all that you seek.
no! for riches and power you have to work hard. By the way...
doesn't it remind you of seafood or shellfish????

Tricky... is it a Celestial Weapon?

Is that italicized text part of the riddle?

Anywayz, the word "seek" stands out to me for some reason. For that reason, I'm going to guess Seeker's armor.

Tricky... is it a Celestial Weapon?

I won't give any hints before there are more guesses... and it's not a 20 questions game it's a riddle...

although I guess I can say this; The answer to the riddle can be found in two ways... One VERY easy way and one that's harder... won't say more now... :p

Yes the italicized text is a part of the riddle.

although the answer is not the seeker's armor

Hints after a couple more guesses... so you don't have to ask is it a weapon/armor/item/aeon/person/location/event/ability and so on...

I'm guessing Anima.

Timster
09-22-2007, 01:52 PM
Nope but if you post reasoning I can help you out a bit :)

Tabris
09-22-2007, 02:03 PM
My reasoning:

Great I am, and
One of the stronger Aeons

one of a kind, but
Only one Anima in the game

don't get too carried away now!

heaven doesn't grant you
all that you seek.
no! for riches and power you have to work hard.
She is not easily obtained - you need to work (D.Spheres) to get her, so having loads of Gil (riches) and Strength (power) isn't enough.

By the way...
doesn't it remind you of seafood or shellfish????
Her head might remind you of a wolf-fish or barracuda.

Timster

hmm the reasoning isn't really correct at all... but you're approaching the last line correctly... the last line is kind of fuzzy but you're approaching it right

is it that aeon thats starts with a y i can't remember what his name is

d£v!l'$ ph0£n!x

is it the onion knight? it is the celestial weapon and therefore one of a kind, but it is not the best one. celestial is another word for heavenly and some of the other celestial weapons provide more riched and power (godhand, others have evade and counter). the shell fish maybe referring to geosgeno

Yojimbo?

Darth Tjador

ya thanks lol!!!

Timster
09-23-2007, 08:34 PM
it's not yojimbo or the onion knight

although a hint would be not to take the italicized text too much into consideration... it isn't that important and alot more vague than the others...

and remember that i said that you could solve the riddle in two different ways? well all I can say is that everyone is trying the HARD way...

Darth Tjador

is it auron speaking or one of the preists

Enjolras

Is it Neslug, the Monster arena creation?

Great I am, and
one of a kind, but
don't get too carried away now! - Neslug is a powerful monster, and the only enemy of that model in FFX (while all the other monsters are based on enemy models encountered elsewhere in the game.).

heaven doesn't grant you
all that you seek.
no! for riches and power you have to work hard. - Possibly a reference to when he hides under his shell, and begins regenerating all the health you had knocked off him. You have to do quite a lot of damage to break the shell and begin killing him again.
By the way...
doesn't it remind you of seafood or shellfish???? - The things a slug with a shell, this one's pretty obvious if the rest of the riddle is correct.

Timster
09-24-2007, 05:12 PM
not neslug or auron speaking or the priests...

ok, can't tink of any answers atm so just gonna try to translate each line and see if theyre correct

Great I am, and --> probably something large, or with a lot of power
one of a kind, but --> obviously it's unique. in gam,e terms this would probably mean it has it's own model
don't get too carried away now! --> probably telling you not to underestimate it, unless of course this is a punn? or if it is something you can possess then don't overestimate it.

heaven doesn't grant you --> would indicate that whatever it is has some association with heaven and divinity in some way. or possibly coming down from above
all that you seek. --> i kind of know what i want to say here but can't find the words :D like it would leave you unfulfilled, or there is something it is missing
no! for riches and power you have to work hard. --> if this line is to be translated literally then it is obvious what it means. working for riches makes me think of the mimics in omega dungeon, or the gillionaire ability.
By the way...
doesn't it remind you of seafood or shellfish???? --> again, this is obvious if it is meant to be translated literally

i'm gonna guess Godhand, just because it is a celestial weapon (heaven) and gives money (gillionaire) and power (it is a CW after all)

Eiko Guy

GOdhand the first letter of each line. I was wondering why he didnt seperate it simply by commas.

they both have a point but i'll go for...
(drum roll!)
sin.......

sorry for taking so long to check in but yes the answer is Godhand congrats to d£v!l'$ ph0£n!x

yes the first letter in each line spells Godhand... the easy solution which eiko guy figured out :) and the other lines...

G | reat I am, and a CW has alot of power
o | ne of a kind, but only exists ONE Godhand
d | on't get too carried away now! there are other CWs and you need to power them up

h | eaven doesn't grant you celestial weapon although needs activation, and also GODhand god -heaven
a | ll that you seek. you want the abilites
n | o! for riches and power you have to work hard. the gillionaire ability plus break damage and the other

abilities which require the sigil By the way...
d | oesn't it remind you of seafood or shellfish???? I've always thought it looked alot like a crabclaw although this line was very vague i know...

but anyways d£v!l'$ ph0£n!x you're up! :)

w00t! now i control the ff7 ADN ffx riddles. coincidentally, the ff7 riddles seems to be a little down so why don't you all drop by and perk it up again! :D the riddle i've posted is quite easy.

http://forums.eyesonff.com/final-fantasy-vii/72786-ff7-riddles-262.html

ok now for the ffx riddle:

Should i stay or should i go
should i stay or should i go now
if i go then i will fall
so should i stay within these walls?
and let the master take my place
for sacrificing one of the same race

What about Yuna? The riddle might be about her doubts about continuing the pilgrimage. If she continues she will fall (die). The master (Yevon) sacrifices some of her own race (human/summoner).
