which would you class as the main character? Some people say Terra, but I would say Locke is the main character because he has a good role in the game.

Gau should have been the leader!

Terra. The entire game was based on her and her race, the Espers. You don't have to a leader to be a main character

It's Terra. Since a friend of mine knows japanese, I was reading a FF13 page from a magazine. It showed the FF13 main character, and Terra. It said the only two games to have the main character Female.

That's still just the magazine's opinion. Being Japanese doesn't make it infallible.

And I tend to think that Celes is the main character.

Yup. I've seen that too. But what about X-2.... I guess nobody counts it....

X-2 wasnt part of the main series. It was an offshoot.

I know this thread is going to turn into the endless lectures about how VI has no real main character, but before it does I'll simply say that I feel Terra is the catalyst character. She's the reason for things starting to happen, really. If Terra wasnt there, would Tritoch have reacted? Would Locke and Edger ever have gone to seen Bannon at that time? You get what I mean.

So yeah. Catalyst character.

It's similar to the Lord of the Rings. You could make a case for Frodo, Aragorn and Gandalf being the main character (and although a lot of people would say Frodo, I'd disagree) and it's the same with FFVI. Terra, Locke, Celes, and possibly even Edgar have claims to be the main character.

I'm not trying to say "There is no main character", but rather, "There are three or four main characters".

I think there is one main character, and it's Terra. She's just... less main than the other Final Fantasy mains.

Locke was more of a leader than Terra. So I'd have to say Locke.

Terra is the key character and much of the story is centered around her, and even if she isn't in your party when you beat the game, she shows up. So if I had to choose one, it'd be Terra, but I still think this game has the least focus on one character of any FF game.

Edgar is as much of a main character as Locke is. I voted Terra however, since she's the first character you control. Technically though you can beat the game without even getting Terra or Locke in the world of ruin.

but as I noted, Terra will show up after you beat the final boss and participate in the ending regardless...

Terra. Why?

1. You start with her. (X-2 aside, every other game starts with the MC)
2. Her theme plays as the WOB theme.
3. She's part of the ending whether you got her or not.
4. She's in the game logo.
5. IMO, she's the best all around character in the game. (Magically and physically, she can fight well. If that's not enough, she can morph to double the damage.)

I see it as there is no true main ch. in the game, you make the story move along with what ch. you pick to have in you party
for the most part

There was a old Thread like this one a while back and someone had explaned it a lot better then I

Terra is the flagship character of Final Fantasy VI. Therefore, it's Terra.

saying Terra's the main of VI is kinda like saying Garnet is the main of IX.

VI doesn't have a single main character, it has several; Terra, Locke, Celes, Setzer all have their important roles to play.

I'd say Terra mainly because it starts out as her story, about what happened to her. Locke is sort of like Yuna in FFX where he takes control at certain parts, but it's not really about him or his past. FFVI brings tons of characters together in the game, each with a unique background; that's one of the reasons I love it.

^Wrong^ That isn't even comparable man! Zidane is the outright main character of FFIX. You control him 99% of the game except for rare moments when you control Vivi or Steiner. Who the heck would even mention Garnet as the main character? In FFVI you can sub in anyone at anytime. FFIX you have Zidane in the whole time basically and cannot sub him out. I don't know if that was just a gender-stereotypical comment you made, but think that through. There's no evidence against Terra being or not being the main character. Pick a better comparison next time.

Terra=main character
Locke=major character

People just want the main character to be Locke, because they can't stand having a female being seen in that light.

Quoted for truth.

Terra-[/!] Locke <---Celes

Garnet-[/!] Zidane <---Eiko?????

So saying Garnet is the main character of FFIX is not right.

My name is...something..?

I never saw anyone as a true main character in Final Fantasy VI.
They pretty much all move the story along at different points.

Yes, Terra looks like the lead character the first half of the game but once you get to the World of Ruin, Celes steps forward and pretty much becomes the lead for the rest of the game.
Meanwhile, Terra isn't even necessary from that point on.

Terra looks like the main character to me.Locke plays a major role too,like the other guys,but Terra is the protagonist.

to end this, lets just say,

Terra = Main woman
Locke = Main man

and keep saying that in all games to avoid this debate, although, I agree my comparison was a little dumb, and a girl being the main character isn't bad at all, except it's kinda odd when trying to compare her to the lead males of IV, V and VII+. People would have to make sure they compare them as people not as men.
