Whats the best set of music you'v herd in a game?

As for me...Metal Gear Solid 3, Shadow of the Colossus have my favorite music.

I've always adored Advance War's music. Sending people to go kill each other in armed combat in mass numbers has never been so light hearted. The Ratchet and Clank series has nice music too.

I'm currently listening to Chrono Symphony, the cd's are located at OCRemix's website as a torrent download. They're free, of course, it's just a bunch of fan remixes, orchestrated to make the cd's feel more like a movie's soundtrack.

It involves a lot of Trigger, but some of Cross as well. It's pretty good.

I can't really say favourites, but I do love Nobou Uematsu's and Yasunori Mitsuda's work.

Jason Hayes is pretty good, although from what I've heard, it sounds a lot like the stuff from Lord of the Rings -- not sure if he was a part of that, but it sounds similar. It can get boring though.

Final Fantasy IX has the best video game music I've ever heard. Generally I like the music used in SE games, but if I had to pick a non-SE game, I'd say Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth had some great music. Some of its themes are from the movies, but there's also a lot of new music, and it still feels like LotR music.

Overall, I'd definetly have to say Chrono Trigger, as the music always seem to fit the mood of whatever is going on perfectly.

Behind that, it's a tie between the Metroid and Castlevania games. I've been listening to a lot of ones from Symphony of the Night lately (which I've never gotten the chance to play), and it's very nice indeed.

Many games have good soundtracks, many of them often being RPGs, and it's hard to pick one that is the best out of all. Some other game genres than RPGs have good music too, though. For example I liked the soundtracks of Medal of Honor, MOH: Underground and MOH: Frontline (and the extra tracks composed for MOH: Allied Assault): the tracks are orchestral, many of them have epic choir, and the melodies are both beautiful and very memorable. Michael Giacchino's tendency to foreshadow themes and counter them with other themes in crucial points is reminiscent of John Williams, and he pulls all of it off in a convincing way. :)

I'll have to say Chrono Trigger, though I love just about all the music from Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda. I also like Yuki Kajiura's work, though she hasn't done much in the game industry, mostly anime. She did work on Xenosaga II. Those are my favorites.

I will buy any soundtrack that credits Yasunori Mitsuda or Akira Yamaoka. Favorite albums include Chrono Cross, Xenosaga I, Silent Hill 3, and Donkey Kong Country 2 (David Wise, I think?). And while it's not a video game soundtrack, Kirite (Mitsuda) is an amazing collection of celtic music.

Lately I'm listening to a lot of Kong in Concert, the fan DKC remix album. Also, while I hated the soundtrack to FFX, there's a fantastic remix of People of the North Pole on OCRemix called Journey's End. I can't stop listening to it.

All of the Silent Hills have perfect music. I didn't think I'd be able to listen to it outside of the games, but it really surprised me. I love that stuff.

Both Drakengards have great music, too. That's probably my favourite. I've never heard anything like it in a game before - although that has little to do with why I like it.
