You know, I was thinking about what a beautiful game Final Fantasy VI is. The character design is top-notch, the music is breathtaking, the atmosphere is amazing, and all of this from a SNES game. That got me thinking about how beautiful it would have been, had it been made as a PS2 or PS3 game. Now, I'm not asking for a remake or a movie or anything, because I'm sure they'd just mess it up. But I can't help but think about how much missed potential the game has as it is right now.

I don't know how good a PS2 or PS3 remake would be. I know I would not like it if it was 3D, and the 2D graphis have a certain charm to them.

Then again I think that there could be some very stellar and enormous 2D rpgs if they focused on making very beautiful graphics and gameplay, just like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is a damn awesome 2D game.

I would love to, and would be willing to donate a lot of time into a 3D final fantasy VI fan made game... oh shat; there goes more of my free time :(

Yes, Final Fantasy VI in PS2 will kick FFX's (And X-2) ass! But never to be compared with FFXII.......

Anyway, if they do make a remake/sequel/prequel, make it for PS2!!!!!! Since, it'll be three or four years from now until I get my hands on PS3. Yeah, I'm not rich. :(

PS: FFVI looks cool in 3D graphic, and that'll attract FFVII fanboys to play it and eventually, open their mind for all FF.

Generally speaking it doesn't bode well for anyone wishing to remake a certain company's intellectual properties. (http://www.opcoder.com/projects/chrono/)

yeah, you gotta be shhhhh.....
I recall several like projects all getting flushed. Though, with a game company that takes systems, abuses them, and moves on to something else, effectivly property whoring, I despise the fact that they retain any intellectual rights.

To be fair an IP is as much property as a song/album or a film franchise. You wouldn't expect someone to bring out a new Robocop movie without first gaining the rights to it first (not that another Robocop movie would bring in any box office). So these unauthorised fan recreations are about on the same level. As has been proved with the PSX/GBA/DS re-releases of FF's 1-6, a company can still make money from an apparently dead IP. So it's not far to accuse any company of "property whoring", since it's just in their best interests to fully utilise their company assets. You don't have to like it, but that doesn't mean it's inherantly wrong.

1. i would buy a remake
2. that closure on Chrono Res was a real shame
3. how does square abuse systems?

I have mixed feelings about this..

I guess it's because I've already played the one I love and can't imagine it never existing. But if FFVI had -never- came out, and then later on they made it for the ps2, -nothing changed what-so-ever other than graphics AND -MAYBE- the music with actual orchestras. I may agree, but the thing is, what FFVI is, is what it's suppose to be, I don't believe that they could pull it off as a 3D game like it was pulled off as a 2D. I think i'd prolly be beautiful, but I don't think it'd have the substance like the real FFVI has. :)

You know, I would hate to see FFVI with your usual set of 3D graphics. How utterly boring. The way I always preferred to see a remake (or in this case, the game never coming out on the SNES only to be made later on the PS2 or PS3) is a game with 2D or 3D graphics that look exactly like Amano's designs, with full orchestra music to truly do Uematsu justice, as well as a slightly higher difficulty since, let's face it, the game is about as challenging as crossing an empty country road if you don't go making challenges for yourself.

mmm ffvi on ps3 would be astounding. Every FMV in the cutscene would be just like the real game, in real time, only EVEN BETTER LOOKING. christ. yes, remake it. I want God Kefka in 3dimensions.

If they did remake it, they'd have to keep Kefka's synthesized laugh. Otherwise I would cry.

Half the reason I found the game so charming and enthralling was the amazingly detailed 2D graphics. I find myself liking 2D graphics alot better than 3D graphics often, I don't know...it's less of a strain on the eyes, maybe?

No, I think FF6 is just fine 2D.

I wouldn't hate to see a 3D remake. But I love SNES-type graphics, actually. They make me stare happily and wonder just how could pixel artists do that with such a limited palette and all the other limitations.

I would like a FFVI remake if they enhance the graphics, sound and leave everything else the same.

I'd be more interested in seeing an extended FFVI, since the odds of the remake even comparing to the original FFVI is slim to none. But I suppose I will get to see an extended FFVI soon enough, on GBA.

Yeah, but simply destroying fandoms because they get too much pr and so on. That is despictable. Along with the fact that they trade mark a different battle system per game, and basically claim IP to every godamn thing they can. This is IP whoring.

I agree completely. In fact, I don't think I could say it any better than you did, so let's just leave it at that. :)

See, and that's actually one of the things I'm WORRIED about if they remake it. I just don't think they can give the sequence the justice if deserves if they do it all in 3D instead of just having the destruction of the airship and then skipping a year ahead. I think it would be kill to see but........how do I say this?........I think it would kind of lack something if they actually showed Kefka ascending to godhood in 3D, or in the process of destroying the world as Christmas stated. To me, the fact that you find out slightly after Celes regains consciousness that Kefka won and has had dominion over the world for a year, and then going out and exploring and seeing the devastation for yourself as you go further and further into the game, does a lot more than just flat out showing Kefka destroying it, in my opinion.

But hey, at least we know that, with the GBA remake, we can look forward to seeing a brand spankin' new script by the guy who scripted Star Ocean 3! :-)

i never said add in something to show that transition. I just think seeing God Kefka at the end all in 3-d would be phenomenol.
not to mention seeing kefka throw Gestahl off the Floating Continent in 3-d would be amazing. I mean, let's be honest, him getting stabbed, him throwing people, him destroying thamasa, him light of judgementing everyone, watching the world fall apart because shadow moves the statues... it'd be SWEET!

Let me clarify: I didn't say you said to add something in. I meant that I just don't think they could do justice to 3-D Kefka, which you did suggest, and then stated that I didn't think they would do all that great a job with Kefka destroying the world like Christmas suggested.
