by , 11-13-2015 at 11:57 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
The CLANNAD Steam page has gone online and the release date has been revealed to be November 23rd!

This also means that the Kazamatsuri Bookclub will be starting on that very day. If you're interested in participating - which I wholeheartedly recommend doing - mark your calendars. The bookclub does encourage reading at your own pace, but it'd be nice if you could at least find the few hours a week to read the route we're currently focusing on.

    It'd ...

by , 10-09-2015 at 02:26 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
So within the next month or two we'll finally see the release of CLANNAD on Steam. CLANNAD being one of Key's most acclaimed visual novels and also one of my all-time favorites. One of the finest examples of a great character-focused game.

And with that the community will, once again, have a bookclub. A detailed article as to what the bookclub is and what participation entails can be found here: ...

What happens when a visual novel with a great story gives you a bonus extra ending as a reward for 100% completion?

  5. Title Screen Themes in VNs

by , 06-18-2015 at 01:46 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
I feel like doing a few writeups of particular aspects of visual novels, and how and where they were done well or not-so-well. There's a lot of subtle things that go into a visual novel experience, and I appreciate the attention to detail on some accounts. This is one of those little things that can truly make a big difference.

In many ways a good title screen theme is important. It's the single theme you keep coming back to - the one you hear every time you open up the game - and ...

Even if you haven't read AIR, this is just wonderful.

  7. AIR Air Arc Thoughts

by , 05-26-2015 at 10:20 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
About time I posted this. Between university, Higurashi and Cross Channel I forgot about it for some time, but the bookclub still has me coming back to it every so often.

So Air is AIR's final arc. The arc's name is actually also capitalized, but to make a distiction I'll take the liberty to change that. They really couldn't have picked a more confusing name, could they?

  8. Angel Beats!-1st Beat- Demo Released Online

by , 05-15-2015 at 03:43 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
So Angel Beats!-1st Beat- is supposed to come out on June 26th, though it was originally supposed to come out today, so to make up for that Key put up a free online demo of the game! Of course it's all in Japanese, but if you're interested regardless, you can get it here:

For those that don't know, Angel Beats! is set in an afterlife world where young adults with lingering ...
  9. AIR Summer Arc Thoughts

by , 05-01-2015 at 10:39 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Well, well, that was actually pretty damn good.

After completing the three storyline paths of Dream, you unlock the Summer arc. It takes place in a completely different era with completely different characters and overall has pretty much nothing to do with what you've read up to this point.

Summer takes place in ancient Japan. The protagonist is a samurai by the name of Ryuuya. He is sent to protect a 'winged ...
  10. AIR Dream Arc Thoughts

by , 04-22-2015 at 11:52 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Having completed Dream and now moving on to Summer, I felt I could at least post my thoughts on it, and maybe compare it to the anime a bit.

Dream consists of three character routes; Minagi's, Kano's and Misuzu's, and I went through them in this order.

    Minagi Tohno

I didn't really remember much about her character from the anime, so a lot of this was 'new' to me. Minagi is a very quiet girl and doesn't ...
