  1. Thoughts on Danganronpa 2

by , 04-25-2016 at 07:49 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Yep, this again. Writing this was actually quite fun last time, so why not do it again? I'd adopt it as a regular thing for more visual novels but there wouldn't be much point to it, would there.

The rest of this post contains spoilers for the entirety of both Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair.

    (SPOILER)

In many ways Danganronpa 2 feels like a natural evolution of Danganronpa 1. The mysteries are more complex, the story builds upon

  2. Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair First Impressions

by , 04-19-2016 at 04:55 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
It's been a while since I've been this hyped for a game release! So let's churn out this post quickly so I can get back to playing...

The story begins as our new protagonist, Hajime Hinata, enters Hope's Peak Academy for the first time as a freshman. Unfortunately that's where his memory cuts off and the next thing he remembers is entering a classroom where he finds his fellow classmates. 15 other "ultimates" chosen ...
  3. Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni First Impressions

by , 04-12-2016 at 07:44 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)

    Well then.

So finally I'll be reading this novel. If the title reminds you of a certain other novel, that's no coincidence, it's by the same author; Ryukishi07. Making this the last 07th Expansion novel I haven't read yet, so as you can probably imagine I'm very ...

by , 04-08-2016 at 09:00 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
So after quite a lengthy silence following the initial localization announcement, Tomoyo After - the CLANNAD spin-off that continues Tomoyo's route - is finally on Steam Greenlight. It's set to be released sometime in Summer 2016. If you're interested in the game or just want to support it, consider giving it a vote

Seeing as how Tomoyo After is one of my all-time favorite visual novels I'll definitely be ...
  5. Character Appreciation: Dlanor A. Knox

by , 04-06-2016 at 03:58 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
I tried coming up with an Umineko character I could write a post like this about without spoiling anything. I failed; it's just not really possible. But I'll still try to be vague enough not to take anything major away.

    Umineko OST - JUSTICE

Dlanor A. Knox is an antagonist in Umineko no Naku Koro ni Chiru. She's first introduced in Episode 5: End of the Golden Witch as the subordinate of Erika, who introduces ...
  6. April 1st Update

by , 04-02-2016 at 09:40 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
The first of April has come and gone, and as some of you might know, a whole bunch of Japanese companies seem to be under the impression that that is the perfect date to announce important new projects and updates. Real ones as well as fake ones. Thankfully April 2nd has exposed the fakes and we are left with only the reals now. So what did we get?

planetarian is getting an anime movie adaptation. planetarian is a short (~3h) visual novel made by Key. It's also very good. If you need ...
  7. Interesting Routes: Yuiko Kurugaya

by , 03-23-2016 at 03:36 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)

Every now and then you come across a character route that stands out above the others. A route that breaks conventions and does something interesting you wouldn't normally expect. One such route is Kurugaya's from Little Busters.

Overall the character routes in Little Busters are rather formulaic. Boy hangs out with girl, girl runs into problems, boy solves them, happy end. Basic stuff. Although Little Busters gets away with ...

by , 03-17-2016 at 07:38 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
So I was thinking of making a special for my #100th blog post, but I was letting news pass me by like crazy while trying to come up with good ideas. So screw it, this is something that needs to get posted.

If any of you are Zero Escape fans you might already know this, but Zero Time Dilemma, the third and final entry in the series, has finally gotten a release window, a trailer, and information regarding what the game will be like.

  9. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Review

by , 03-12-2016 at 09:53 PM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is a visual novel developed by Spike. It was originally exclusive to portable systems but has recently found its way onto the Steam Store.

    Overview

The story of Danganronpa is set in Hope's Peak Academy, a special educational institution for students that stand out above the rest; each of them is the "Ultimate" of their respective field: there's the "Ultimate ...
  10. Thoughts on Danganronpa

by , 03-03-2016 at 12:33 AM (Karifean's Blog of Visual Novels)
So, having completed my readthrough of Danganronpa recently, I felt like making a post like this. This doesn't mean I'm not gonna review it as well, but more than just reviewing it I also want to bring up and talk about some specific parts of the game that stood out to me, be it positively or negatively.

The rest of this post contains spoilers for the entirety of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, the first game in the Danganronpa series.
