Looks pretty sextastic.
Edit: Arrrrrgh! Krile?! SSSSSSSFPOAwenhr[aohv[oeidlsk
*sigh*, well, 'Rift' is better than 'N-Zone'. :cat:
I can live with Krile, but maybe they can rename EXDEATH. Please? Maybe? I guess not. ;[
Awesome screens.
There aren't any screens of Exy, are there? I hope they settle on something for him...:cat:
The likeliness of me playing this game on anything but an emulator is slowly decreasing with every screenshot they release.
Reina is back to Lenna, yet they kept Bartz and Krile..
If anything, Exdeath is better than X-Death, but if it was Exodus it would be awesome..
I liked the N-Zone better, but the error with the X-Zone spell annoyed me "Thrown into the N-Zone" wtf?
However the very few annoyances are far outweighed by everything else, and I REALLY REALLY want this game now :(
At least the names for the enemies, equipment, and abilities appear to be relatively accurate.
Bartz and Krile are still there, though fortunately the Princess is now Lenna. The font looks somewhat weird. Hopefully they'll have Exdeath and Sarisa instead of X-Death and Salsa. What in the dance and dip sauce was Square thinking when they translated her name Salsa? And yeah, the Rift is better than N-Zone.
I like it. I like it a lot.
The font looks almost the same as it did in FFI+II and FFIV. If anything, they made it more legible.
Why, what was Krile supposed to be? You can change most of the names anyway, can't you?
Does it really matter what things are named, anyway? It's just a game, after all.
Krile is supposed to be Klulu.
No, you can't change anyone's name in FFV except Butz's.
Yes, it is always nice to see the text of a work accurately reflected across multiple languages without being spotted with myriad errors of ignorance.
How do we know that wasn't taken into consideration? These things need to be marketable. Changes don't necessarily come out of ignorance.
Personally, I think "Krile" is a more attractive name than "Klulu".
Would you rather see "Mash" instead of "Sabin" for FFVI?
There is often justification to take liberties in a translation. In the case of simple names, though, there is no good reason not to be as accurate as possible.
I agree with that much, but at the same time (as already mentioned) you want to make the game marketable. Since without a doubt it will be rated T, they want to make the game pleasing in that target age group.
I'm no expert on either business or the Japanese language, but if there's an uncertainty with the localization of a name (like Klulu), an alteration with the name is not a bad idea. You make it seem like S-E looked at the name and said, "Let's do this instead". How do we know whether or not they spent time actually thinking of an alternative for the name? Perhaps they wanted to go with the original but decided against it. I don't know.
Does Klulu have any historical or religious significance? If it does, then naturally, a good reaction to a change of the name would be a good ol' "WTF" and therefore makes my argument absolutely meaningless. Such is life. :)
Since you know an awful lot of the translations and their meanings and such, why not apply for localization with Square-Enix? You seem to know a lot about both the Japanese language and culture.
