I'm going have to put some more of my two cents in, just so you get both opinions. I personally think the game and storyline gets better on disk 3. Mostly because I have a massive passion for romantic storylines.

(SPOILER)I love freaky time-space related stuff, so yeah, I loved disc 3 and onwards as well :)
It's my favorite of the regular FF series (although FFT edges it out overall). I love the character designs, the architecture, the monsters, the music, and even Triple Triad. The plot is weakest part of this game, and the junction system penalizes you for casting junctioned magic. Despite these drawbacks I found the game emotionally satisfying.
really, its the easiest of the final fantasy games
I came close to beating it but never did. I really enjoyed it, lost my saves and got pissed off and just haven't went back. It's a good game though. I had everything maxed out too, just missing a few GFS. It's GFS in that game, right?
Yesh
I think I got so far as the 4th disc...i think. It's been a long time since I played it but I never beat it either. The best moments were on disc 1 though. After that, I got kinda bored with the story which is kinda why I don't remember most of it. I was too focused on getting stronger and building up GFs and whatnot. Rinoa annoyed the hell out of me too which prolly had a lot to do with how I lost interest with the story around disc 2. Had it been a game focused moreso on Laguna, it would probably be my second fav of all the FFs.
