That is my point, that people blame the religions for the actions of people, who suppossedly act in the name of the religion. I think it is people who corrupt the institutions of the reliong, rather than the people corrupting the religions themselves.Quote:

What about "turn the other cheek", "if you did it to the least of these my brothers, you did it to me"? I think such statements exist in any reigion, and that can make us better people. Not all religion is bad. It just depends on the practitioners of the religion.Quote:

I don't know much about the Inquisition, but the Crusades were mainly fought to regain control over the city of Constantinople, which was invaded by Muslims and renamed Istanbul. They were fights for the same city, back and forth between Christians and Muslims, but the Muslims made the first aggressive move towards invading Constantinople.
The inquisition was designed to root out heresies within the church. Witches, Cathars, Gnostics, Jews etc. Anybody who wasn't Catholic was a target.Quote:

(By the way, didn't mean to say that other religions didn't have anything to do with anything of the sort that Islam did--I know there were Inquisitions, etc.--but that many of the aggressive moves members of Islam made weren't "provoked". Things like Jihad, etc. I know all religions (well, most) have had "holy wars" and such.)

The muslums did not unprovokingly attack Constantinople. (even if they did there would be no way in hell the Pope would care about the orthidox byzantines) The Turks were encroching on the Empire but so were all the european countries. Constantinople was invaded by the russati(eastern Norse) several times.
Jihads tend to be provoked. They don't wake up one day and say lets have a Jihad. They don't have alterior motives like takeing land (except the one against Israel. but in all fairness the they were living there).
Well, to be honest about it, there have been schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan that have been producing brainwashed Jihadists for a long time. Madrasas create a jihadist and they will find some excuse to use what he's learned. It isn't like Osama or anybody else is going to declare an end to a jihad and then all of the fighters go home to become ordinary peaceful citizens again. They're going to find themselves another jihad.
True. For one thing, the land that is now Isreal was set aside after WWII as a homeland for the Jews, but it was originally Isreal anyway, a long while ago. So it's not like somebody just up and took some random chunk of land away from people and gave it a new name, it was the re-establishment of a country.
On another note... Schools in many Muslim countries don't even have Isreal on their maps. That's not because their textbooks are so outdated, it's because they brainwash people from a very young age to hate everything Jewish, Christian, and Western. No matter what our stance is on Middle Eastern Muslims, we will always be their enemy.
(EDIT: The link on the Crusades starts off with a mention of "1095 CE". "CE" is "Current Era", a term made up by people who don't like to say "Before Christ" or "After Death" (BC/AD) because it makes a reference to Jesus. Sounds like an accurate, unbiased source to me :rolleyes2 .
No, a real Muslim will never be anyone's enemy. It's true that Muslims get brainwashed, but most of them snap out of it as they study their own religion more. It disgusts me how Osama and ppl like him are tarnishing the good names of some (maybe not all) Muslims by saying that it is the will of Allah to fight other countries. Maan, if I ever saw that guy, I'k kik his @$$ because the will of Allah is to promote peace and not destruction. Thanks to ppl like him, the whole world takes Muslims as a "terrorist" religion when it is actually a "Peace-promoting" religion.Quote:
