R2D2-Mages? Are you on crack?
Aside from X-2 and now 7, each Final Fantasy was a planets last stand against an overly destructive force. If the threat wasn't eliminated it would be it FINAL days. And since its not real, it is FANTASY. Thus FINAL FANTASY.Quote:

Final Fantasy has always had its futuristic elements as well as medieval ones. Thats why it was so successful. Its in a realm in which anything can happen. In 1, there was time travel. There has also been floating fortresses, robots, people from other planets, and technologies we haven't seen in our planet ever. Final Fantasy, I can't see pulling any Star Wars moves anytime soon, simply because Star Wars have virtually no medieval elements.
If you want an RPG that is more future than medieval then play Xenosaga. I prefer a nice mix of the 2, or more medieval RPGs. However Im a big fan of Xenosaga also. Star Ocean is way more medeival than it is futuristic (haven't played 3, so don't flame me if thats uber spacey). Same with Phantasy Star IMO. But PS is a great series and I want more of them made (screw PSO I want more PS series games!!).
In summation, if FF went totally futuristic, it wouldn't be a FF game anylonger, but if Square-Enix wants to put out a Star Wars/Star Trek/Xenosaga-esque RPG I'd be open to it. Buit it better not be called Final Fantasy. And Star Fantasy would A. be a rip on Phantasy Star, and B. be a rip on their own Final Fantasy, hoping the word Fantasy in there will pull their FF audience.
In a last moment thought, I realized that Squaresoft has made a few more futuristic games. SaGa Frontier for the PS1 has interplanetary travel, robots, guns and several other more modern and future erlements. Its just that the SaGa series gets ripped on a lot for being way different than most RPGs. Unlimited SaGa really sucked no matter how you put it though. Saga Frontier 2, I never played but I'm wiolling to bet its basically the same as SaGa Frontier 1.
Actually, Final Fantasy I was intended to be Squaresoft's last game, hence the "Final" but because the game was so popular they made more, or something.Quote:
