On the topic of progressive I'd reccomend everything Vincent said and Rush, Yes, Coheed And Cambria (if you like them check out The Prize Fighter Inferno), Tool, Ayreon, dredg, and The Sound Of Animals Fighting.

Perhaps I should list the sorts of bands I already listen to, to give you all a better idea of what to recommend.
Currently, I'm a big fan of metal/hardcore. I like Between The Buried And Me, Poison The Well, He Is Legend, Throwdown, Hopesfall, all those kinds of bands. I enjoy some emo bands (Sunny Day Real Estate, Chamberlain), some techno/ambient artists (Aphex Twin, Boards Of Canada) and some hip-hop (NWA, Dead Prez). Also a very big fan of Radiohead.
Ryth did a pretty good job of naming some bands (save for a few, Franz ferdinand, Ahem) But some more indiewise bands you might want to try out are:Quote:

Also, I would like to know if you have ever heard about a genre called 'Post-Rock'? Its really slow melodic stuff (usually with no singing) that is very amazing really. Some of the most beautiful music you will ever hear. If You are interested, I will post up some Post-Rock bands for you as well.

If you haven't already, check out Muse as well. Definitely worth checking out. I haven't listened to them, but I hear Bloc Party, The Shins, Broken Social Scene, and Neutral Milk Hotel are also very good. Just thought you'd know.
I also like Phish, a band I've heard called prog and/or Indie on multiple accounts. I don't know if I'd say that, however it is a good band, and I thought it a good idea to reccomend them, because they're worth the listen to. I hear them called Jazz Fusion a lot of the time, so it seems to fit in regardless.
