portrayed as the hero, it makes them feel worse about themselves because they know they could really be heroes but are just too damn lazy and scared to try in this reality.

Admittedly, I do not prefer Jack's voice actor. I'd prefer to not have had to endure the 'nude' scene. I love the Russian disguise and the katana. From the perspective of stealth preferences, Raiden's original outfit is pretty cool. From any other standpoint, not so much.

I don't understand how any can complain about not being Snake. When other games have sequels, people don't complain nearly as much that they're not playing as the same character. When movies have sequels, people don't complain as much that they don't have the same main character(s).

What irritates me is the whole point of Raiden was to make Snake look even cooler which worked perfectly. Personally, I preffered the rookie role and I never realised there was anything wrong with the voice acting or voices themselves in the game.

No, the point of Raiden was that players could identify more with the character, one who was fresh to the battlefield like they were, rather than a veteran like Snake.

It was nothing to do with making Snake look "cooler".

Well thats what Kojima said on the DVD that came with my copy of the game. He wanted to give the players a new perspective of Snake to make him look more impressive. Come ot think of it maybe it wasnt Kojima but someone important enough to get an intervew said that.

That's a good point - Raiden idolises Snake, in a way. So rather than having Snake as the lead character, whose eyes we see through, we instead get an external perspective on him - seeing what he looks like to other people. It also shows the kind of influence Snake has had on the world, even though he's always been a (largely) "unsung hero". A bit of recognition for all his hard work, you might say.

No, the point was that MGS3 takes place before the previous games.

Americans (especially males) tend to hold a special place in their bile sac for effeminate men. Japanese might yet think the same of American macho men. The Japanese appreciate femininity so Raiden was an ideal character. The only disappointment Japanese fans apparently felt was toward not having the same character in the next game.

What are you talking about? There were no cameras in MGS3. Snake makes that exclamation in MGS1.

Right, this quote threw me off. I haven't actually played MGS3.
But, according to you, his statement is still incorrect.

That quote, if you read it properly states, Snake said "A security camera!" in MGS, and Big Boss repeated everything endlessly in MGS3.

When people talk about Snake, they're talking about Solid Snake, when they talk about MGS3 they always call him Big Boss, because that's what he is, he isn't Snake.

You're just misreading what he said.

As far as security cameras go, they've been around since the original Metal Gear on the NES, which the PS games sequal to after Metal Gear II:Snakes Revenge.

The main continuity goes MGS3 -> MG (MSX) -> MG2 -> MGS -> MGS2. Snake's Revenge and the NES version of Metal Gear have no place in it.
