It's not the end of the world, I don't like Lars Ulrich or Flea at all. I made the drummer thread because they're 2 popular and different styled drummers. It's not as if it's law you know. If you want to name favourites do it in another thread, these threads are battles between 2 people, not 100. Basically it's tough luck no matter what is said. I don't care what you want in the threads, a thread is a thread, make another to your standards if that's what you want, it's just a bassist vs bassist or drummer vs drummer thread in the end, not bassists vs bassists or drummers vs drummers. Don't take this the wrong way, it isn't to falme you, I'm just giving you the point in the threads, this thread wasn't my idea, I made the drummer thread out of sheer boredom, nothing big to moan about now is it?
Seems as if Cliff is taking the lead over Flea.
I personally think it's a bit of a rubbish poll, sicne there are plenty of better bassists than either of those two. I voted Flea, but personally I think the best ever bassist (judging based on technical prowess) is Jon Myung from Dream Theater.
He is far from the most technical bassist.Quote:

Better than Myung?? I shall have to check these guys out - what bands are they in?
im sickened, where is lemmy!!!
im ashamed of you venom.
id vote flea cause the chillis are like one of the best bands ever!
That was cool, essentially a guitar solo on the bass before he jumps into "For Whom the Bell Tolls". RIP Cliff Burton.Quote:

I KNOW! Where's Lemmy?:mad2:Quote:

For all the people moaning about how there's a lack of options. Just relax, it's not a forum rule, it's only just a battle between 2 bassists. Yeah there are better bassists these days, but not many of them can easily do what Cliff used to do, well there's no need to.
Some bassists sound better in their own ways then others, some have unique techniques that make them badass, others just suck beyond recognition but at least they try (me).
Once I get that bass guitar I'll upload it for you guys to see, then you can all laugh at me instead, I'm sure you'd all enjoy it. But there's always people better then other people.
Pastorius was also in Weather Report, was he not?Quote:

The fact these bassists had enough musical talent to create other bands and write their own music shows they are better then the main two mentioned. I think the ability to shred and do "jazz" in a rock song does not mean they are the greatest. It just means they are skilled at that thing. The two I mentioned, are greater bassists overall. And I'm sure if they needed to, they could shred too.
I don't know who Kim is but Melissa is a pretty worthless bassist. Flea doesn't do jazz in a rock band, he plays funk styled bass because RHCPs were once a funk band. Also, Cliff is not a bass shredder, he was simply there for rhythm effects even with the few bass solos he had.Quote:

The fact she has a song named after her illustrates her notoriety.
As for your comment about Mellissa, I'd be interested in your reasons.
And what are they now? A MOR band peddeling out songs stylised to sell among teenage girls.Quote:

Clearly, that's GENIUS. The fact he's dead and on this list illustrates how people cannot speak ill of the dead just yet...Quote:
