quin..valid point.....
and..uh..hookers are icky...and they have names liek "dick"..hahahhaha
I was responding to whether or not I thought they were the same, not whether or not one should be outlawed and one not. It makes logical sense to make both or neither legal, but not one to the exclusion of the other. I personally feel like banning both is the moral choice, but since government nowadays doesn't really do things based on morals, I wouldn't be surprised to see both be legal. Either way, as I said, I don't really care because I'm not involved in either.
Outlawing prostitution is useless. People of that nature will look for their "needs" to be fulfilled anywhere and will not be complacent to legislative measures put in place to stop that sort of thing. Legalizing prostitution would also ensure the health and safety of the person providing the "service" as well as the person receiving it. Prostitution will not be the fall of society. Those people already exist. If you're afraid that it will make things like adultery more easily accessible, then I suggest you think long and hard about who you want to start a relationship with.
And only cost a few quid for a lifetime of services.
Wait. If prostitution were legal, rather than merely tolerated because it's just not worth the effort, then it could be a properly regulated industry where demands could be made on identity. It's not illegal because it's dangerous so much as it's dangerous because it's illegal, or at least significantly more dangerous than it has to be.
Edit: And everyone's beeing too technical about this. They both get paid to get people off. I see little difference.
Its not the same thing, still both should be legal (and controled), imho.
There's something that differentiates the two and makes one more acceptable than the other. I'm not sure exactly.... but it could be a number of the following:
Porn stars:
Registered
Must wear condoms
Vigorous STD Testing
"Basement" Entertainment
Apparently they act sometimes too
Celebrity Status
Inaccesible (that is you can't touch them)
Prostitutes:
Are extremely Accessible
Placed in constant risk & danger of infection/physical damage
STD testing is not available upon request
They pleasure you directly
Illegal solicitation
Not registered
I think mainly the concern is that pornstars are registered and ndergo constant STD checkups to ensure they're not spreading a contageous and harmful disease. It's deffinately illegal to knowingly transmit an STD .... so I think the government has taken protective action to attempt to ensure that citizens are not being placed at risk. Since pornography can't transmit a disease to you directly I think it is less shunned and valued differently as opposed to an anonymous prostitute on the street who is selling herself for God knows what and may not really care if she/he passes on life threatening STD.
