Boys, much like your school, Shiny, couldn't have really baggy pants or wear wife beaters.
Girls, tank tops had to be three finger width and shorts or skirts had to be mid-thigh length or longer (it couldn't be shorter than your middle finger when you put your hands down to your sides). Couldn't wear too revealing a shirt, bust-wise. One time I wore a suuuuuper revealing camisole, and the principal pulled me aside privately, didn't embarrass or humiliate me at all. Told me I shouldn't wear that in the future, and because it was the end of the day and I was already leaving, I wasn't going to get in trouble. I think everyone generally got off with a warning, and then detention after.
There's nothing wrong with dress codes as long as you're not using them to shame or humiliate your students. But at the end of the day it is still a place of learning and needs a certain amount of decorum.
