Can we get a hint? Or maybe a repost of the hints so far?
Hm... Okay.....
Could the "weird plants" be related to the Malboro? No, I'm going to guess 1000 Needles (attained from Cactuar)....
NOPE NO CACTUAR
What I get when I mess with weird plants - Lv3 Defless. I'm not very sure about this, but Ochu does allow for this Blue Magic to be learnt.
You were wrong but you can have it. The answer was
Plants: malboro: bad breath
Tentacles: Roper: I forget.
hooters: White wind
Explsives: grenade: mustard bomb.
*giggle*
Okay, I'll post a riddle very soon. I just need to locate the one I've written down on paper.
-edit- Found it,
Minute by minute,
Time ticks - always moving.
Hurry come quickly!
If you come in time,
You can attain me and a letter.
excaliber 2
Yeah, that's 'me' - and the letter that comes with it.
jump rope and a letter.
also excalibur 2.
The letter is from Enkido to Gilgamesh.
Okay, the Enkido letter and the Excalibur 2. Either Jiro or Hypoallergenic can take the riddle.
Take it Dak.
EDIT: Whoops forgot which forum this was. Let me get an actual IX riddle up.
EDIT2: Here we go.
Brrr! It's cold! Or is it hot?
I'll need to dig around to find the truth.
Chocobo Hot and Cold? Only thing that makes sense.
Indeed it is. Sorry about the simplicity, couldn't think of another riddle off the top of my head!
That's okay. Some riddles are bound to be easy, others challenging.
I look like the elephant,
You see me holding a Gimme Cat,
But I am not her.
Any one?
I DUNNO BRAHNE
I'm just going to say Hippaul. I can't think of anyone who has a Gimme Cat doll.
Well, the answer is non-living (non sentient either).
The island you find the Gimme Cat on?
Nope, not that. The Gimme Cat is living, I'll give another hint after two more guesses.
Hm... Here's another hint to get things moving.
The riddle contains 'the elephant', puzzle that out.
Uhh Brahne?
That is 'the elephant', now can you find something non-sentient that relates to Brahne?
THE RED ROSE
Nope. Two more guesses for another hint.
Dark Matter?
Nope, one more guess for a hint.
Edit:
Oh, alright. Here's a hint, in the form of lined added to the my riddle:
I look like the elephant,
You see me holding a Gimme Cat,
But I am not her.
You never interact with me,
Yet only in one place do you see me,
Your clue is this: The trinity of Alex.
As it has been some time, my hint is my editted post above.
The portrait of Brahne hanging in the royal household?
If that's it, that was pretty random.
I don't know if it's Brahne, but it is the patroit you see in Alexandria. I wouldn't call it random....
edit: Depression Moon, it's your turn.
Hm... since Depression Moon doesn't seem to wish keeping this going, I'll go again.
In white or yellow — I sing,
Letting my stress fly on wings.
Roses and narcissus allow my to fly,
Only with him do I truly soar.
Who is he?
Who am I?
What theme?
Not sure what the theme is, but Hildegarde 2 and Cid.
You're close with the Hildegarde 2, think before that particular ship was modified. You're left field with Cid Fabool.
GARNET
ON THE HILDEGARDE 3
WITH ZIDANE
That's closer. Would you explain your reasoning?
no
Hm... Garnet is the I in the riddle, what else can you think of?
Zidane and Melodies of Life?
Nope. Zidane is the he in the riddle.
By theme you mean music, right?
Nope, not a musical theme.
I can whistle it, but I'll be damned if I ever name it xD.
Oh wait, not a musical theme. Well then, seppuku all round.
Is the theme true love~
The theme is flight.
Yes, Miss Boobs, the theme is flight. Now, can you guess the main part?
Here is a repost:
In white or yellow — I sing,
Letting my stress fly on wings.
Roses and narcissus allow my to fly,
Only with him do I truly soar.
Who is he?
Who am I?
What theme?
....What do you mean, the main part?
The main part:
In white or yellow — I sing,
Letting my stress fly on wings.
Roses and narcissus allow my to fly,
Only with him do I truly soar.
[Edit] I should mention that each line is a riddle in itself.
The first line refers to the fact that Garnet sings, whether wearing a white dress/robe or her yellow jumpsuit.
The third line refers to the Red Rose and Blue Narcissus.
It was a pretty clever riddle, Shinwa Tsuki!
Thanks Jiro!
Also, the first line refers to her nickname "Canary" because canaries are often yellow or sometimes white. (or was that the other way around?)
[Edit] It's between Jiro and Miss Tifa's Boobs, I'll let the two of them decide who will take the floor.
NOSE GOES
JIRO'S TURN :D
The tune carries across the ocean
Over mountains, through forests
Don't use it inside though
The acoustics won't save you
The gramophone in the Black Mage Village?
Nope!
The harp in the Cleyra village?
The flute that the Moogle gives you, the one that lets you save on the world map. You can not use this particular flute "inside" because you should be able to find a Moogle to save your game.
Aw dude! That's it! Good job, Shinwa. :)
Hee, hee! Yeah, that one was obvious to me.
My riddle:
We am represented three ways,
You might find us dangerous,
We won't lie — only one set is truly danger.
What are we?
Obvious guess: Black Mages (A, B and C).
The Black Waltzes.
Nope. I'll give a hint after three more guesses.
What's the name of that monster that has three parts? One is blue, one red and one yellow. I can't remember...
Whatever it is, is it that?
Wait, no. I got it. Is it the Mover enemies in Terra? If I remember rightly, they have a ridiculously powerful attack if they're all together.
No. Two more guesses until a hint.
Alrighty then. Is it that monster that has red, blue and yellow parts? xD
Although, knowing how you do riddles, Shinwa, it's probably something like coffee!
Now, but I suspect those colors might be part of one 'way'.
Gonna go through this like we used to in the good old days! :D
Something(s) that is represented in three ways. It might be one thing with three forms, one thing that is described in three ways (e.g. witness account), or three individual things that form a unit. It (They) appear dangerous, though only one "set" of them is dangerous. This could refer to a final form of one thing, or a combination of three things. Without delving too deep, it appears to rule out the idea of the answer being one thing that is simply referred to in three different ways. The way the riddle is written suggests that it is the latter idea of three individual things -
Oh wait. There's no indication that there are only three things. It could be a dozen things that are represented in three ways. In this sense it could even be Zorn and Thorn (represented as Jesters, Mages and a Monster), though it doesn't seem likely. Shinwa, consider that a guess anyway xD.
I'll put more thought into it when it's not two in the morning! :D
You're on the right track, the answer however is not Zorn & Thorn.
Here is the hint, as an expanded riddle type.
We am represented three ways,
You might find us dangerous,
We won't lie — only one set is truly danger.
What are we?
There are four of us,
At least three ways are we linked.
Another way we could be represented,
Is spherical in nature.
The 4 gems required to summon Alexander?
They are not represented three ways,so try again.
The elemental mirrors you find in Oeilvert? I mean, they are circular, and they are also supposed to represent the crystals of FF1, which were orbs, the spherical part, and the ones from FF5, which were crystals instead of orbs, and they were "dangerous" I guess because when they shattered, it broke the world and fused it with Galuf's world. I'm really kind of stumped, otherwise...
The mirrors are one way of representing the answer, although the final answer — I must admit — might be a touch abstract...though if others do find the final answer abstract, that's an oops on my part.
So, are they represented as the set of mirrors, the set of shrines, and the set of shrine bosses, which would be the only part truly dangerous?
Yep.
Edit: Here is the expanded riddle reposted:
We am represented three ways,
You might find us dangerous,
We won't lie — only one set is truly danger.
What are we?
There are four of us,
At least three ways are we linked.
Another way we could be represented,
Is spherical in nature.
Edit 2: ChocoBoy, can you think of what the final answer is (and the reason why I think it is a bit of an abstract answer)?
The elements, Air, Fire, Earth, Water.
Yep, that's the final answer.
Here's the break down:
We am represented three ways,
This refers to the four Shrines, the four Mirrors, and the four "Crystal Bosses".
You might find us dangerous,
There are really two interpretations of this line: 1. The Bosses are the dangerous ones, and 2. The fact that each of the four elements are dangerous in and of themselves — Volcanic eruptions, Tsunami waves, Earthquakes, and Tornadoes. It is the second interpretation that is meant here.
We won't lie — only one set is truly danger.
Each of the four Shrine bosses is dangerous.
What are we?
The four classical elements.
There are four of us,
Should be obvious. There are four classical elements.
At least three ways are we linked.
By this, I am referring to how their linked in the game itself.
Another way we could be represented,
Is spherical in nature.
The spherical version of this four representation are the four colored Stones (Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green — each of which are a symbolic color of Fire, Water, Air, and Earth receptively (although, in some cultures the Earth and Air have their symbolic colors switched)). These Stones, I see as being spherical in nature.
A bit of a throwback,
you might remember me.
You didn't for get to stay in your line?
What about the spin at the end?
Free them from prison,
and you can find me.
Two steps forward, three steps back.
What am I?
Well, I know it has to do with the Rufus Parade song playing on the Prima Vista...
So the boss flower plant thing?
Yeah it's gotta be related to Plant Cage or w/e it's stupid name is.
I do have to agree that the answer is musical in nature, I personally think the answer might be with the saxophone (or what ever it is called) in the Black Mage Village that will play a certain theme if you have three Key Items the names of which I do not recall.
Sorry, I've been gone for a couple days. But I've got to give it to Tifa's Boobs. It's the Rufus Parade song, in general, but since she mentioned it, I'm giving it up.
A bit of a throwback,
you might remember me.
-It was in Final Fantasy VII.
You didn't for get to stay in your line?
What about the spin at the end?
-Has to do with the marching in Junon in FFVII, which you do to this song.
Free them from prison,
-Vivi and Garnet from Prison Cage.
and you can find me.
Two steps forward, three steps back.
-References the fact that it you go to steps(screens) forward from the crash site, you get the ATE to start the song, then if you go three steps(screens) back, you can see them actually playing it.
Tifa's Boobs, you're up.
Kisses and Hugs
I don't like it rough!
Gotta go deep
Golden Showers
Happy Explosions
Ragtime Mouse. :D
Yuh! :D
W2g Rantz yr turn bby
Oh Sam, you're becoming a parody of yourself xD.
Two gross people is all I can bear
Though my end was by just one
And one is all that holds me, but
You ain't seen nothing 'til you've seen me!
Black Waltzes?
"Gross people" makes me think of the Qus.
Hades.
Oglops? (Or however their spelled... .)
Rantz, are you there? I thinks we need a hint, and your responses to our guesses.
Oh, whoops! Sorry guys. All guesses so far have been incorrect.
Hint: "Gross" has several meanings.
bump
Gross refers to the number in the first line, and the adjective in the second line.
Nope!
The Theatre Ship?
Yep! Carries two gross (2 x 144 = 288 people, as mentioned by an obscure sign that I and five other people paid attention to), destroyed by one gross person... :greenie:
I must admit I've forgotten what the third line refers to. It's been a while since I made the riddle. Could be that there's only one NPC (Gilgamesh) that you can win it from (by playing Tetra Master, that is). Not the best line if that's so, but it's my best guess.
The last line refers to seeing it in the opening scene, but moreso to its name, Prima Vista (literally "first sight").
I believe the third line referred to Morrid, who holds the Theatre Ship Model.
I don't have one at the minute, but I might tomorrow. If I don't post within 24 hours, assume I've passed my turn.
It's been more than 24 hours, right? I can never figure out how to read the timestamps on this forum...
Anyway, I've got a riddle here.
What the hell did you call me?
Look at me, do I look like vermin to you?
You're gonna have to work to earn my protection now.
Nothing in life is free, after all.
Seifer.
It's not Seifer Almasy (I think you want the FFVIII riddle thread), nor is it Gilgamesh (alias Alleyway Jack, alias The Four-Armed Man).
Repost for the new page:
What the hell did you call me?
Look at me, do I look like vermin to you?
You're gonna have to work to earn my protection now.
Nothing in life is free, after all.
Incorrect guesses so far:
Seifer Almasy
Gilgamesh/Alleyway Jack/The Four-Armed Man
Ah, I thought it was VIII riddle thread. That vermin part sounded so Seifer.
Puck?
The corner post of Zidane's bed near the headboard.
It's not Puck, or Zidane's bedpost...
Sephex, was that a joke guess or are you actually being serious? Because I would really love to know why you think that's the answer.
Hint:
What the hell did you call me?
Look at me, do I look like vermin to you?
You're gonna have to work to earn my protection now.
Nothing in life is free, after all.
How about we play a little game first?
Ratchel. I mean Freya?
It's not Rachel (which is what I assume you meant to type, and she's from FFVI anyway), nor is it Freya Crescent. You are thinking along the right lines in the sense of taking "vermin" literally, though.
Does it have something to do with the dance you perform in Cleyra?
It couldn't have anything less to do with the Ritual Dance in Cleyra.
If no one is even close within three more guesses, I'll give a big hint. It won't be the only big hint I'll give, either.
Regent Cid.
Not Cid Fabool IX. Two more guesses until hint time.
I would like people to give reasoning for their guesses, though. That way I know you're not just guessing random stuff and waiting for the hint.
I'm not.
What the hell did you call me?
Look at me, do I look like vermin to you?
You're gonna have to work to earn my protection now.
Nothing in life is free, after all.
How about we play a little game first?
Amarant ?
Not Amarant Coral. One more guess and then a hint.
I wonder, if the speaker (of the riddle) is an NPC. My best guess of an answer, at this time, would be: the red clocked man who runs out in rage when you first visit the Alexandria Inn when playing as Vivi. My reason for guessing that it is a NPC is below, I don't really have a reason for my guessed answer.
What the hell did you call me?
Look at me, do I look like vermin to you?
You called the speaker a "vermin". But may not look like a vermin.
You're gonna have to work to earn my protection now.
Nothing in life is free, after all.
A price must be paid to get protection from the speaker.
You're right that it's an NPC, but it's not him.
Hint: The first two lines are connected, i.e. the speaker is taking umbrage at being called "vermin". Note that "vermin" should be taken literally here.

Incorrect guesses so far:
Seifer Almasy
Gilgamesh/Alleyway Jack/The Four-Armed Man
Puck
Zidane's bedpost
Rachel
Freya Crescent
Amarant Coral
The NPC in the inn in Alexandria
Is it Burmecian Soldier Dan?
What the hell did you call me?
Look at me, do I look like vermin to you?
This leads me to believe that whoever it is is Cleyran or Burmecian
You're gonna have to work to earn my protection now.
Nothing in life is free, after all.
He sells you stuff in Cleyra. He remembers meeting Zidane in Burmecia and feels bad about accusing Vivi of being one of the killer Black Mages. Or something like that.
How about we play a little game first?
I think you can challenge him to a game of cards!
I put a LOT of time in to researching this answer so if I'm wrong I'm going to be wildly disappointed and cry :colbert:
Answer me this, Lone Wolf: Why would you or Zidane have to work to earn the protection of the Burmecian (rats and mice are vermin) Soldier Dan?
I think the word "vermin" in the riddle refers more to personality than literally.
Fratley?
I don't think Zidane needs to earn the protection of any NPC. I took it as a metaphorical protection like his shop opening. You can protect yourself with his items. As far as the earn part goes, I don't know.
But he just said that it should be taken literally.Quote:
I think the word "vermin" in the riddle refers more to personality than literally.
Sorry to make you cry, Lone Wolf Leonhart, but it's not Burmecian Soldier Dan. It's also not Sir Iron-Tail Fratley, of Burmecia. In fact - and this is a very big hint - it's not a Burmecian at all. How's that for a plot twist?
Also, regarding the word "vermin", it is to be taken literally, but remember that the two first lines go together. In other words, "Do I look like vermin to you?" means that the speaker is expressly NOT vermin, but gets called vermin anyway.
I think I've said too much already, but hopefully this helps.
My second and last answer would be Cid, perhaps he was called it as an Oglop?
It's not Cid Fabool IX.
Prince Puck!
EDIT: Aw, it was guessed already, dammit.
Another hint: This is not an NPC that you can talk to.
Sorry if this question sounds dumb, but does the NPC come from Cleyra ?
Is it an actual NPC or a statue?
Yes, it is an actual NPC, and no, it doesn't come from Cleyra.
The only time I remember the word "Vermin" being used is by Kuja towards the Cleyrans.
I'll take another shot, is it the Auctioneer?
No, it's not the Auctioneer.
Hint: The one calling the answer vermin is YOU, the player. No one in the actual game ever actually speaks to it.

Incorrect guesses so far:
Seifer Almasy
Gilgamesh/Alleyway Jack/The Four-Armed Man
Puck
Zidane's bedpost
Rachel
Freya Crescent
Amarant Coral
The NPC in the inn in Alexandria
Burmecian Soldier Dan
Sir Iron-Tail Fratley, of Burmecia
Cid Fabool IX
The Auctioneer
Is it somebody in Treno ? Like during the card tournament on disc 3 ?
No, it's not found in Treno.
An NPC you cannot talk to, but refer to in the game as "Vermin" that is also referred to as "it". Also, it is neither Burmecian nor found in Treno...
I honestly cannot think of any more...
:|
Hint: I never said it was specifically called "Vermin". It is, however, given a name that is something to do with vermin (in the literal sense) that is not indicative of what it actually is.
I think your idea of vermin must be different from ours. To me only the cleryans could fit that.
My idea is vermin is how it's defined in the dictionary. "Any one of various common types of small insects or animals which cause harm and annoyance." Rats are not the only kind of vermin, either in real life or in the game.
And as I've stated many times before, this character is MISTAKENLY referred to as a type of vermin. Referring to Burmecians as a type of vermin (in their case a rat) would not be a mistake, as rats are indeed what they are. But in the case of the answer to the riddle, what I'm looking for is a character who is referred to as a type of vermin (and note again that includes more than just rats), but is expressly NOT said type of vermin. Also keep in mind my other hint that says that it's the player who makes the aforementioned mistake, not any character in the game.
I think I just dropped several major hints there. I really did NOT expect people to find this riddle so hard, I was expecting it to be guessed in like three posts or something.
Is it the Ragtime Mouse?
Actually, you never said that. You just said that vermin was to be taken in the literal sense.
And that kind of attitude makes the game fun for no one. And as easy as you might think this is, if no one ever interacts or speaks to the character, it makes guessing really, really tough.Quote:
I think I just dropped several major hints there. I really did NOT expect people to find this riddle so hard, I was expecting it to be guessed in like three posts or something.
Is it one of the Friendly Monsters?
Ragtime MOUSE?
Interesting how differently two people can interpret the same statement. I was just thinking TwilightLord had been pretty patient considering several hints have gone ignored repeatedly. For example: what you say above that he didn't say, he actually did say, twice. Probably comes down to misinterpretations. :)
Pantz, you are the win! It was the Ragtime Mouse!
Wow, I did NOT expect that to last as long as it did. Anyway, here's the explanation.
"What the hell did you call me?
Look at me, do I look like vermin to you?"
As I've stated before, these lines go together. The Ragtime Mouse is not a mouse, and looks nothing like a mouse. His/Its name was actually supposed to be Ragtime Mouth, which is much more fitting for his appearance. So he's wondering why on earth the player (as I said, it's the player calling him vermin, not any character in the game) is calling him a Ragtime Mouse when he clearly looks nothing like a mouse.
"You're gonna have to work to earn my protection now.
Nothing in life is free, after all."
If you answer all of his questions correctly, he drops a Protect Ring. This is sort of continuing the "story" of the riddle too, with the Ragtime Mouse/Mouth essentially saying he was just going to give you the ring, but then you insulted him by calling him a mouse so now you have to earn it.
"How about we play a little game first?"
Refers to the questions you have to answer.
Congratulations!
I thought it was the ragtime mouse but the ragtime mouse is a monster, not an NPC so I suppose people misinterpreted the riddle. :)
Monsters are also NPCs.
It's over now. The riddle is over. Somebody make another. :P
And that was a good riddle, TwilightLord, I think people like me simply misinterpreted he hints.
As to me an NPC is not a monster.
monsters are not usually considered npc's
I'd say perhaps Garland is both. Beatrix is too... kinda.
They are, but you interact with them outside battle.
The NPC thing threw me off as well, but I would probably classify Ragtime Mouse as one in hindsight. He has dialogue! :D
Holy vessel, sunset sea,
Finders, keepers, I'm for free
Vagrant and a fiend that flies,
You may have me for a price.
I'm free...but you may have me for a price?
Very tricky, Pantz :holmes:
It's not anything to do with the figurines, is it?
Nope!
I might as well come out and say right now that the first and third lines define a context for the lines following them, ie. they do not describe the answer directly.
Is it a chocograph/bubbles you can find near the Forgotten Continent?
It's not the answer, but related! :)
I'm assuming maybe it's an item that you find from one of those then.
Holy Vessel...that sounds like a boat. At first I thought ark, but then I found out Ark is a dark-type summon. I was thinking Pumice.
Is it one of the items you get from a chocograph/bubbles?
Yes it is!
Is it a card? Like the Ark Card?
Nope, not a card.
Is it perhaps the White Robe you can find from the Sea at Dusk chocograph?
Not the White Robe.
The Diamond?
You got it!
Holy vessel, sunset sea,
The kirkboat in Conde Petie, and the Sea at Dusk chocograph...
Finders, keepers, I'm for free
... are places you can find it for free.
Vagrant and a fiend that flies,
Stiltzkin, and the Friendly Garuda...
You may have me for a price.
... will give it to you in return for something else (Gil in Stiltzkin's case, and the Garuda wants a Lapis Lazuli).
Your go!
Alright, I'll come up with something soon! :)
Wow, Jinx sure is lazy!
It's been six months - oopsie daisie!
Have you been where no man has been before?
Where the red sun meets the northern shore?
Oh how it makes me heart sing
It's Picasso and Beethoven's dream!
The Forgotten Continent?
Warm.
Quote:
It's Picasso and Beethoven's dream!
Kuja's Palace ?
Nope!
We waited very patiently for you, Jinx!
Is it Ipsen's Castle, perhaps? The layout of it is very erratic and nonstandard which reminds me of Picasso's faces. I cannot think of anything else other than that, I'm afraid.
Oh, that's a really good guess, Jiro! The faces and all.
Sadly, your Princess Garnet is in another castle.
Oh, darn! I'll have to sit on it for a bit longer and see if I can't figure it out.
Oeilvert?
npoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooope.
Madain Sari
Closer!
Black Mage Village
Nope.
Trabia Garden?
Shimmering Island?
Nope, you're cold again.
Yusnaan?
Conde Petie
No.
I wanna say Mognet Central, just based off the "no man has been before" line, but I'm not sure how it would fit into the rest of the riddle. :/
My assumption is that the last line refers to this place being very beautiful or unusual in appearance whilst having a lovely soundtrack attached to it. xD
I will give you all a hint, because you're thinking of this too simply:It's a place inside a place.
Oh fannies. Is it the Eidolon Wall?
I really want to make a riddle for "that guy fixing a roof as the Theatre Ship flies overhead in the opening cutscene", because I just noticed him today, but that'd be far to obscure.
Gimme a day.
I am the male Jinx. :p
I've got nothing, to be honest. If anybody can think of one, you're welcome to take my go. In the meanwhile, I shall continue thinking about stuff. :)
