POP
I might have to concede to you on this one. I'm actually in my first Japanese class here in my freshmen year, and I was just saying that because that's what we've been taught. But I suppose it would make perfect sense that it would be a more informal form. I don't think we'd get taught that right away. Sorry about that mate! (You win, but soda doesn't. :) )

We call what you call "pop" or "soda" soft drinks.
Pop sounds seriously idiotic to me, and soda, is the afore mentioned mixed drink. However, at least soda doesnt sound absolutely stupid
Kids soda out of cabbage patches. I sodaped in back home for a sec before going to hang out with my friends. What's up, sodas? All-American Rejects is a soda-rock band. Et cetera.
The idiocy of filtering the word "pop" trancends that of using said word in lieu of "soda".
*looks for the "edczxcvbnm is a ho-bag" option, but can't find it*
[Cheers]. And ed is clearly a ho-bag, so there is no option for that!
I know what et cetera means, meanie.
I religously used to refer to it was "Coke" but after moving and living here in Michigan for two years I've been brainwashed in to "Pop".
