in japanese "souda" means "that's right." Thus, soda is right. So pop must be left. Why is pop left? Because no one drinks pop! They drink soda!

Actually I believe you're looking for the Japanese that literaly translated is spelled "soo desu" and romanized to a more "soo des" sounding type of thing. So I guess if you say soda REALLY funny, it could be right. At least in Japan. Otherwise we definitely have to go with pop here.

How much Japanese do you know? 'couse I don't want to make myself look like an idiot by arguing with someone that knows the language. But I have learned in my 4 years of studying Japanese that "sou da" (which is the more literal romanization) is the plain/informal/casual form of "sou desu." My joke is thus valid.

I might have to concede to you on this one. I'm actually in my first Japanese class here in my freshmen year, and I was just saying that because that's what we've been taught. But I suppose it would make perfect sense that it would be a more informal form. I don't think we'd get taught that right away. Sorry about that mate! (You win, but soda doesn't. )
