Yeah, I'd like to offer my apologies to Lom for that comment.
It turns out my riddle-solving skills were crap...
Sorry, my friend.

It turns out my riddle-solving skills were crap...
Sorry, my friend.
Its none of these.
Merton is the key to the location. Otherwise you'll just end of guessing through every random high place.
High as you can go
An expansive vista
That you cannot see
Mertons behind you
The riddle puts me in mind of when Reno destroyed the Pillar, its as high as you can go, you see an expansive vista, which is shortly unseeable due to the plate being blown up and as the plate is blown up you get the merton effect of Shinra destroying something of their own causing damage to both themselves and Avalanche.
This amused me.
The moment just after you defeat Motorball?
Right before you know how big this world is?
No to both.
Can anyone confirm that Merton is a mistranslation of Meltdown? I don't really know how I knew that, and I'd like to know if I'm just crazy and/or stupid.
However, it means something else in the context of this riddle.
Hmmmmm.
Corel Town? Barret kind of has a "meltdown" and Golden Saucer is high up, and it's kind of a trouthole.
Not Corel town.
Gongaga village.
If it's not Corel Town, I'm guessing Golden Saucer.
(I'm wondering if it's a person, place, thing, or an event. Although person seems really unlikely, and so does thing.)
Aw, man, I'm out. I can't wait to see the answer. :)
Northern Crater?
Would it be the face place in wutai?
The Materia Cave which holds Knights of Round (I think that is the name), am I on target?
High as you can go
An expansive vista
That you cannot see
Erm... I'm gonna have a potshot at the opening FMV footage of Midgar. The camera pulls back to show the whole of Midgar but your playable character (Cloud) can not see this as he's on that smelly train about to kick the arse out of a reactor.
Mertons behind you
As already stated, this is a reference to FFVI. Directly before this particular piece of FMV would have been the end of FFVI...
Hmmm... that sounds pretty thin now I think about it. Very thin, actually. I'll await BG's rejection post.
I'm really struggling with the Merton reference unless its an anagram or something.
Merton is an anagram of mentor. Cloud's mentor I suppose would be Zack. Is it Zack's death scene at the top of that hill from which you can see an expansive vista? However, Cloud can only see the death of his friend and mentor.
I googled Merton and came up with a place in Wyoming and two dead guys.
The reactor at the top of Mt Nibel?
Let me assure you that this is pretty representative of Wyoming.
Shinra Mansion?
I'm going to assume this is wrong and ask for a hint concerning which continent it can be found on? Unless that's too close to giving it away then just a general hint
rockettown
Im sure someone already said it, but the promised land?
I take it you didn't read all of my post :/
No one has but no it isn't.
You edited after I replied. :greenie:
I can't give specifics without drastically reducing the possibilities, so I'll go with a general hint.
HintThis spot is not natural, like a mountain peak or the like.
City of the ancients
The golden shiny wire of hope?
Oh. I swear after I edited it and went to my CP only Bubba had posted then reloaded again to see 2 more...
The mountain you climb after Icicle Inn? The one where you have to stop to raise your body temperature?
Hm. Well, when I hear Merlon, I think of the wizard Merlin. So, like, leaving magic behind you?
Is it the Top floor if the Shinra Building in Midgar?
Fort Condor.
The upstairs of the house in Wu-Tai. The one filled with cats!
The answer is Kalm, or more specifially - the tower you can climb to the top of in Kalm and look out of the window.
Wow! That was a tricky one - I personally would have guessed something different.
I was going to guess the observatory in Cosmo Canyon, never would've gotten Kalm xD
As always I'll pass my turn, I cannot write a riddle to save my life.
I should stop trying to solve them really since it seems unfair, but these last two riddles have been tricky and therefore fun to try and solve.
Hm... I'll take the riddle making.
You see us on your way,
Our prize you may take,
Only if you want to.
That's it. I'll give hints when asked.
The phoenix downs you can get from the nest on the way to Corel? You get the choice to take them or not.
The baby birds on your way to Corel Town.
EDIT: Damn it, Dak beat me.
That's the one, Jiro.
You are what you do
But keep this in mind
Deal with these two quickly
You're running low on time
Stupid Biggs and Jesse with the passcodes in the first reactor.
I think fierytempest got this one.
Incorrect!
Okay, then it is the Carry Armor boss because if you don't deal with those two claws in time, they'll pick up two party members. If the third party member dies while the other two are being carried then it's an easy game over is incoming.
It is not.
Reno and Rude?
Incorrect!
Um, are we looking for an answer that is combat related?
The two switches on the Corel train during the Huge Materia quest.
The Lost Number boss? It's either that or the Chocobo Farm.
I think Sephex may have it with Lost Number.
You are what you do
I see 2 meanings here. 1: You put in lost numbers for the combination and the boss is named Lost Number. 2: The physical/magical quirk with the boss
But keep this in mind
This is either there to bridge together the riddle or could refer to remembering the safe code
Deal with these two quickly
The fight changes half-way through, and it's kinda like 2 fights, or the fact that you have to put in the code, then fight.
You're running low on time
The safe combination is timed.
Everything makes sense for that to be right.
Proud Clod....stupid Heideger and Scarlet.
Nope!
The first line is the most important, followed by the third line. The second and fourth lines are filler, mostly, so just focus on the important stuff.
Very interesting...I've got a guess:
Dressing up Cloud as a girl for Don Corneo's mansion. You are what you do = all the items necessary for Cloud to get picked (wig, cologne, tiara, bikini briefs, etc). Deal with these two quickly could mean Don Corneo's henchmen or Tifa & Aeris.
Incorrect! Do remember that the answer is combat related - in fact, the answer is a specific battle. Figuring out which battle depends on the first line.
I keep thinking of the Weapons.
It's not the Weapons!
The very first battle of the game with the two Shinra grunts?
Correct!
You are what you do
Cloud is known as Ex-Soldier at this point.
But keep this in mind
Filler line
Deal with these two quickly
The most important part of this line is the fact that there are two enemies. Also, you're attacking an important Shinra facility, dawdling's probably not best.
You're running low on time
Same as above really.
You're up Sephex!
The answer is the Chocobo Farm.
Okay, seriously....
In sequence
Kind of annoying
There is no independence
Now we can get going
wutai tower.
Not the Wutai clan.
Is it the Fort Condor battles? You have to do them in a particular order and they need your help to win.
There is no way it is the Fort Condor battles, as they are awesome. Plus, I think only one is mandatory.
I'm going to guess learning Chocobuckle. I assume "independent" is a reference to independent materia, though I'm not sure how that fits.
It's not the chocobo FARM, it's CATCHING a chocobo!
No to all. Two more guesses then I'll start giving hints.
IN THE REACTOR WHEREYOU HAVE TO HIT THE SWITCHES AT THE SAME TIME
Aw trout. Someone can take my turn. I'm the worst at creating them.
I'll take a stab at it. I mentioned this one in chat a day or two ago so those of you who saw the answer, let the others take a try at it first.
I'm like your corner dealer
I've got goodies in my stash
All it takes is a toss of the dice
So bring your saved up cash
Hart? The man in the Shinra building in Midgar that you need to give a code to...
Nope.
That weird save point that gives you a tutorial on save points?
something at the gold sorcerer??
No but you did catch on to something...Quote:

-------------------------------------------------------------
i ment gold saucer yes ^^
i think Jiro has it
That is correct!
I'm like your corner dealer
-He's kind of hiding in a corner near the entrance to the gold saucer. Can't be legal to sell GP right? I guess it's kind of like scalping or selling your tickets at some fair.
I've got goodies in my stash
-For the GP...
All it takes is a toss of the dice
-Random chance of seeing him going in and out of the entrance or up the station ferry.
So bring your saved up cash
-It's trading gil for GP. Also a mini clue in that the GP guy is found near the Gold Saucer Save Point.
In Heaven there lies a chariot
Golden and gleaming in the sun
If only you could get this rust bucket
Started and ready to run
THE ROCKET IN ROCKET TOWN
I think she has it, but just in case. The Buggy?
Tiny Bronco?
None of the above, actually!
Is it the Sunken Gelnika?
Incorrect!
Off the wall guess here. Sleipner? (sp?) Odin's horse? Heaven being a Norse reference to Asgard and Valhalla. Ruled over by Odin. Odin rides a horse named Sleipner.
In Heaven there lies a chariot
Golden and gleaming in the sun
If only you could get this rust bucket
Started and ready to run
The Highwind?
None of the above!
"Golden" is in fact the actual colour of the object in question.
You have already figured out that yes, it is a vehicle of some description.
You do not actually use this vehicle (as you might have garnered from the rust bucket line).
The first two lines are key to discovering the location of the vehicle, but even then you might not get it ;)
Is it the method of transport between Corel Prison and Gold Saucer?
If not then maybe the cable car from Corel to the Gold Saucer?
Golden Chocobo? Lololo.
The golden shiny wire of hope? Not really a vehicle, though.
Incorrect on all of the above. Bubbaforever is closest, geographically speaking.
Is this some random thing you see in the Corel Prison junkyard? I can't remember anything gold, though.
It's certainly not some random thing, but you are correct in its location.
Attachment 35841
That car
I use this picture because I suck at explaining xD
I'll try: The gold car with no top near the hole with the empty chest?
That is indeed the answer.
YES FINALLY! OK give me a few minutes to make a riddle! About to eat dinner, and I really want to put thought into it! RIDDLE COMING SOON!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay! here goes:
Nothing can seem more final
then what death appears to be
Let's hurry and get to it
Come relive the fantasy
Final Fantasy VII, the game itself? As in our world.....
When Aeris dies.
Nope
Um... when Sephiroth is thrown into the mako during the flashback?
Cait Sith? He appears to die (even though he is just a stuffed doll) at the Temple of the Ancients but a second version of him comes back.
No, not yet
I've been focusing on "death appears," but maybe "relive the fantasy" is more significant. How about the whole Kalm flashback of Cloud imagining he's Zack?
No but the closest guess so far, Shaibana
Game Over (getting annihilated)?
I think Rantz has it.
No but he is closer :3
Using a phoenix down?
Final Attack/Revive?
euuhh..
the Load selection? xD
Fiery and Bubba, you're getting further away! Shaibana bringing it back! SO CLOSE but no cigar!
Also I have noticed you are not taking your guesses very seriously Shaibana, but you are by far the closest :P
Oh, I don't know erm...
Re-starting your current save file after your party is killed?
Or saving your progress before you are killed
This is way too abstract for little old Jiro. I will guess "starting a new playthrough" but I feel like it's already been mentioned.
Lol, accidentally deleting your save file?
You all are dancing around the answer xD
No im not taking my answers verry serious becaus i just have no idea :P
even though im close, other come up with more 'profesional' answers..
im more like random guessing :o
my next guess: Save file
just a save file in general
Skipping the videos at the start. You know the one with the credits and trout.
Nope.
Deleting your save file after getting to the Chocobo Farm.
Colder
Seeing Aeris in the opening cinematic
freezing
The buster sword on the main menu screen
colder than freezing
The Crystal Theme
Nothing can seem more final
then what death appears to be
Let's hurry and get to it
Come relive the fantasy
--------------------------------------
So it is somwhere at the end of the game..
and has to do something with save files?
i dont know if this actualy happens in this game, but at some games when you finish it(nothing seems more final, then what death....: sephiroth dies right?)
the end credits roll (lets hurry.. getting impatient)
and when the game restarts it loads your last saved game.
so you can 'relive' it
The Game Over... text that appears at the top of the screen in-battle when your party is wiped out?
Shai, you are correct with 'relive' and close. It has to do with restarting the game but no one is right so far.
When you soft reset? (L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 + Select + Start)
YES
Nothing can seem more final - but since it is a game death is final like IRL
then what death appears to be - you do this after you die
Let's hurry and get to it - Soft resetting is quicker then waiting
Come relive the fantasy - redo what you just did to get you killed from your last save
Your turn!
Whew that was a tough one.
It was!
Okay, here goes.
Red
Yellow
Purple
Green
I love the pretty colours
obvious guess out of the way; Materia?
The 4 Huge Materias that eventually end up in Cosmo Canyon?
No to all.
Lost Number's form where he's all multicolored?
pfff i was so close :(
i wanna make a riddle to! xD
the chocobo's self?
the chancing of the colors of the weapons when you buy new ones?
Nope.
The representation of the lifestream energy when Bugenhagen demos what would happen to Gaia if it all went away in the astrology room.
Yuffie's 'obsesion' for materia?
Sephex, your thinking is on the right track.
Roller coaster ride at the Gold Saucer?
The astrology room itself?
Noooooooooooooooo
CosmopolitanCanyon?
Yup. That's it. Cos it's all those different colours. Soooo.
Your turn. :)
New, clear attachment
Early, out in the open
A decent advancement
Perfect for a token
The buggy.
Not the buggy.
The flower you get from Aerith for 1 gil?
It's not that.
Is the answer related to something that you find early in the game - while still in Midgar, that can be a gift for someone else later one?
It has nothing to do with Midgar.
The PHS?
No. Hint time.
It is something combat related, but not a command.
Some add-on?
Cat's Bell? It's an accessory that restores HP while you walk around
No to both. Melissaur is thinking in the right direction.
Cid's Scimitar?
Nope. Hint time.
Say the first line of my riddle kind of fast and out loud.
WOW I fell like it's right there! But I have nothing. I'm just going to guess the Titan materia
Based on the last hint, it does seem to be a materia, and one you can find early on. What's the first materia you find? Restore?
No to both. Hint: It is a weapon.
Is it that weapon you get for Barret in the reactor which is beneficial to equip to before the first boss?
No.
This weapon IS for Barret, though.
OOOOOOOOH. New, clear attachment, nuclear attachment. Ahaaha it's gotta be the Atomic Scissors then!
CloudDragon gets it.
New, clear attachment
CloudDragon explained my play on words.
Early, out in the open
You can get the Atomic Scissors when you first are out on the world map early in the game.
A decent advancement
Mainly wanted to keep up rhyming here, but this also means that if you get the weapon early, it does help out....decently.
Perfect for a token
Some fans/critics say that Barret too much of a token black man.
Your turn CloudDragon.
Awesome! All right here goes:
It's all dexterity & luck
To climb this challenging cliff
All it takes is one pluck
You might try 3 times and whiff
Getting the items when you fall from the tracks on the way to Corel.
Climbing Gaea's Cliff?
The battery part of Golden Shiny Wire of hope in Midgar?
The dolphin jump at Junon Harbor.
No to all. I might've made this one a little too difficult. Hint time hmmm...
It does involve stealing...a weapon...
Also the 2nd line hints more at the actual name of the weapon as opposed to the literal sense of climbing a challenging cliff.
Hardedge?
Damn, Jiro beat me to it. :mad2: The last hint made it pretty clear.
"Challenging cliff" = Hardedge lololol
Yeah it was either too hard or too easy. I couldn't find the right balance. LOL. Jiro is correct!
It's all dexterity & luck
Reference to stealing. Also I know luck helps, dexterity might too, in increasing the chance of stealing. At least I believe both stats get raised when equipping the steal materia
To climb this challenging cliff
Again I gave away the answer with this hint. Challenging = hard, cliff = edge.
All it takes is one pluck
Another reference to stealing. It only takes on try to get it!
You might try 3 times and whiff
There's a subtle reference to who you steal it from. 3rd class Soldier in the Shinra Building after you are released from the prison cells
The real full answer was Stealing the Hardedge from 3rd Class Soldier but that's close enough. Go for it, Jiro!
His name isn't Bob
And he's definitely not a builder
But when he uses this technique
He's got a good chance to kill ya
That body builder in Midgar...Bro?
Tonberry's Knife?
Neither!
I assume it's a death attack, but "good chance" makes it seem like it's not certain. That doesn't leave many options that I can see. I'm not sure what to take from the first two lines.
Roulette.
It's not Roulette. The "good chance" just references the fact that the attack doesn't work on enemies immune to instant death attacks.
