If no one has any objections, I am going to start a new thread because this one is so huge.
YOU DELETING PREVIOUS POSTS DOESN'T COUNT :colbert:
Do we even need a new thread?
Thread be waaaaay big. That will prevent some (not many, but some) people from viewing because they haven't been in any part of the conversation up to now. Trust me, There are a lot of threads I feel that way about. It's a good practice to stop threads at 1000 posts. If you disagree, Pike can shut the new thread.
Not many threads do get to 1,000 replies here, and those that do don't get closed for being too big. You shouldn't be the one to decide whether we can start a new thread or not. That is up to the staff to decide whether a new thread is needed. And anyone can join in the conversation at any time, they don't need to be there from the very start.
Sorry, Just going by what I've seen since I've been here. Threads that reach 1000 are usually closed
While I agree that this is a very large thread, we've got larger. We'll keep this one going for a while yet.
Fine, Like I said; up to the CK.
You know what this thread needs?

Also you've all probably seen this but just in case I will show it to you, the sequel is in the descriptions.
Namby Pamby what now?
I knew I wasn't the only one who thought of this.
Just wondering, did we go over how we all discovered the show or not? I can't remember.
Yes, but we can again and I don't think anyone would mind.
I decided to watch a couple of eps just so I could better troll bronies.
Yeah, that backfired.
Thanks, I'll add mine...
Long Version
Short VersionI saw an episode, thought it was an Internet Only thing, realized it wasn't after I realized I loved it, and realized I loved it before discovering that it had a fan following. More detail in the long version.
Ha-ha.:p
I have liked My Little Pony since I was a wee little girl and watched the original 80s version. It was one of the very, very few stereotypically girly things I ever liked. Probably because there were a lot of evil monsters and some really catchy songs.
When it first started to show up at 4chan, I thought it was odd, but appreciated the art style of it. I picked a random episode to watch (Feeling Pinkie Keen, which had just aired and so was the first one I could find), and thought it was cute, but I still didn't get how anyone could turn it into an obsession so I mostly forgot about it, and trolled bronies as I came across them because I just like trolling in general.
Finally Hux watched it and really fell in love with it so I promptly decided to give it another shot. This time it grew on me quickly and here I am!
Edit: Pretty sure my brother was the original brony; he had a MLP themed birthday party when he turned five, which would've been in... 1991.
Kind of funny how two of the answer have been from those who previously trolled and became fans. This show really does have something if it can do that.
Ponies! :squee:

I've managed to get rainbow dash, fluttershy, and twilight sparkle. I need pinkie pie now.
I am so jealous you guys :( All the blind bags around here are gone already
All I wanted was rainbow from a mcdonalds or a blind bag, they are sold out everywhere.
Looks like I'm going to McDonalds later then :plotting:
Hey guys, I have a secret for you.
Only for people who want blind bags.
My Little Pony Collectible Ponies Set - Hasbro - Toys "R" UsHave a good time.
I always find the Hasbro toys look like trout. :p
Update:
There is a logical reason for men liking ponies, the creator of the show is the creator of both Powerpuff Girls and Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends, which our generation grew up with. Thus My generation= loves ponies.
Ditzy Doo and Derpy Hooves are not the same pony, for some reason, many fail to notice that a pony that has the same cutie mark but different hair than Derpy appears with the birds in Winter Wrapup, Due to previous conversations, it can be assumed that this is Ditzy. Due to not only being a recolor of Derpy but also having the same cutie mark, it can be assumed they have very similar personalities and are most likely twins.
More later!
Those actually look pretty good to be honest. If they're Hasbro it's probably the most accurate they've done so far. AlsoPart of me thinks that they'ed be good to buy... Lauren did not create PPG and Fosters actually, she is however married to the guy who did, and she did, and for some reason people have confused the issue. She did...something on both shows, but she didn't create them. Also, I personally don't find either of those shows similar to Friendship is Magic at all. No offense.
That's an interesting point about Derpy and Ditzy. I'll have a look at Winter Wrap Up to see if I can find what you mean. Thanks for the heads up. No disrespect about the PPG thing.
Guys there is a McDonalds down the street from where I live so I went there and ordered a Happy Meal
BAM
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...20630765_n.jpg
I have eaten roughly a dozen happy meals over the last couple weeks. Worth it, Mane6 complete.
Also, the collectible pony set appears to be a collection of the blindbag figurines. All the molds look the same as the wave 1 blindbags, including the rage inducing Fluttershy thats just a Dash recolor. Apparently Rarity gets her own mold with flowing locks, but Fluttershy gets a crew cut instead...
As far as how I started watching the show... Boredom and curiosity I guess. I was in Afghanistan for the first year or so, when the show was gaining steam. Limited internet access kinda kept me from following what was going on in net culture. Case in point, it was only about 4 months ago that my wife showed me the "double rainbow" video. She was flabbergasted that I had no idea what it was. Anyway, I came back home and ponies, ponies everywhere. Eventually I had a long weekend and nothing going on and figured I'd see what all the fuss was about, so I found a torrent for season 1.
I have Rarity and Pinkie Pie, and one of my friends said he had an extra Twilight and Fluttershy for me. Now I just need to meet up with him and then get Applejack and Rainbow Dash to finish the Mane Six
Mine were from McDonalds too. I've had seven happy meals so far. About to go make it eight.
^
I now have Applejack.
That looks way better then the Hasbrow Fluttershy. XD
Edit: Also, what the smurf internet?

A Long Hard Day of Training 1 by ~FicFicPonyFic on deviantART
Immediately made me think of this... Less blatant, way more innuendo.
You're welcome.
Awwww.
Did you have to ask for ponies? When I was growing up, everytime My Little Pony in any shape or form appeared in Mcdonalds it was part of the boy/girl Happy Meals, and the girls would get ponies, and the boys would get something like Action Man or toy cars or something. Is it just ponies now, or did you ask for them. Also thanks for saying how you got into the show. :)
It is boy/girl.
So do you guys actually ask for them?
Totally, how else would I get them?
-Drive up
-Order food
-"Which My Little Pony toys do you have?"
-Buy them
There's actually a cute girl that works the drive-thru. I think she gave me a knowing smile last time I went.
Yes. But if you are afraid of being ridiculed, don't say the pony you want by name, say "the blue pony" So they think you don't know the name. Pretend your sisters birthday is coming up and she wants ponies for her birthday.
HC's Advice column.
I didn't ask for a specific one when I went in, I just asked for a "girls happy meal" and was pleasantly surprised!
I'll tell you what though, there was a guy in front of me in his mid-twenties or so who was very nicely dressed and similarly asked for a girls' happy meal. After he got it I saw him pull the pony toy out with a big ol' grin on his face as he walked out the door.
I walk inside and ask for a girls cheeseburger happy meal, without pickles.
I just buy my toys separately. I'd ask for the ponies by name if I thought the employees would know them.
All the smurfs I give ----->
My method was to ask for three at a time, and specify "make sure there are different toys so my girls don't riot when I get home."
This results seems to result in a 12 piece nugget, medium fries, and large coke + 3 ponies once turned into one meal.
I just got through watching the latest awwwww-some episode. More on that later. :)

One of my favorite episodes of the season right there!
I need to get a screen of the giant Roided pony with the tiny wings. XD
We need a run of episodes starring DJ PON3, Pip, Luna, Big Macintosh, the Time Lord, and Beefy.
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-298TIeZQeA...00/Capture.PNG
OH YEAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
I love that guy. <3
Roid Rage is awesome.
Okay everyone, for those who are interested, here is my opinion on the episode Hurricane Fluttershy.
In my honest opinion this was possibly the best Fluttershy episode yet. She may be my favorite pony, but her episodes never really scored that high for me (the last one that did being Dragonshy and there's plenty of episodes I liked better than that one). This episode is definitely better than Putting Your Hoof Down, where Fluttershy's (forced) assertiveness came from everypony (and one bunny) being complete a-holes for no reason, here she was coping with a personal problem from when she was younger, and one that had been hinted at in Season 1 - great continuity.
The episode also seemed to be a tribute to season 1 at times, with the tree disguise, the high pitched "Fluttershy" from episode 1 and A Bird in the Hoof. The whole episode just seemed really well written and in tune with the show. I'm going to go out a limb and say that the writers were having an "off day" withPutting Your Hoof Down. Another bonus is that we got to see two of them as fillies again, which just looked really aww, and made me think of what may be my favorite episode ever.
Yeah, I know not everypony was used, but this was basically the story where using all of them would be over kill. It could work either way, but all in all a beautiful episode.
Does anyone else find it hilarious that Roid Rage has tiny wings? Kinda lends support to the whole wingboner thing...

Who wants to buy a blind bag? $2.00 plus shipping!
Yeah. It woulda have made sense if they were going for the record, but once the first one fell apart and sent pegasi flying like shrapnel... I'd like to hear the explanation. "Well, I mean, I know that these Pegasi are in horrific danger, flying in an unstable funnel cloud and all. Not to mention that Cloudsdale only does this once a year, and that if they don't succeed here then lack of water supply will prevent cloud production, therefore dooming Equestria as a whole to drought and therefore starvation. But I worked my way up the chain, I earned my spot as a supervisor dammit."
Oh Spitty, why?
As a second point, was I the only one utterly convinced that Fluttershy was going to roll in with about ten thousand birds and butterflies to add wing power? I would have put money on that 20 minutes into the episode.
Birds and butterflys could in no way handle the force of the hurricane. Except exceptionally large birds. :p
And didn't you know? Spitfire is a dick.
One other thing I really liked about the episode though was how quickly Rainbow Dash became worried more about picking up Fluttershy's spirits then about getting her to help.
The Spitfire thing kinda made it feel like Fluttershy's small addition to get too 800 was irrelevant. Spitfire could've easily put them over the top without a problem once they were no longer trying to break a record. Still, I tried to ignore that. I love Fluttershy episodes and was sad at the lack of them this season, but they've tried to make up for lost time a good deal here recently and this one was great. Fluttershy has some of the best overcoming adversity bits.
On the toy front... out of 4 happy meals, I've gotten 2 RD and 2 Cherilee. I think the next time my wife and I go we'll try to trade in our duplicates.
Just out of curiosity, for those who bought the toys separately, how much did they charge you?
Time to get Nitpicky! :D
They fell short on their first attempt by 50WP, clocking out at 750.
They were short 8 ponies.
Without those ponies Rainbow Dash figured they would have had a tough time making the 800. Prior to this, however, Rainbow dash was confident they could reach the 100 mark. Just how much work did he expect those 8 ponies to do?
If you are only taking into account the 50WP they were short, those 8 needed to average a 6.25WP. But the sick one is the one that clocked in 8 the first attempt. Lets say then that he improved to 10, the number Rainbow said they all needed to be at to break the record. Since, again, he clocked in at 8, and even fluttershy managed to improve her speed by 2 points without even putting the same amount of training in as the others, I think it's a safe assumtion he would have been up to 10. That means the other 7 were at an average of 6WMP.
If we take into account the full 150 to get to the full 1000, they would have to be averaging 18WMP between the 8 of them. It would require every last one of them to have achieved a higher WP then equestria's fastest Flier, Rainbow Dash who clocked in at 16.
Rainbow Dash may be headstrong, but this is far to unrealistic an expectation for her to have had. That and I doubt she'd expect that many ponies to have match her speed, none the less surpass it. The numbers make virtually no sense in context of whats going on.
However, I did figure something pretty funny. Rainbow stated if all of the Pegasi, (Since it seemed all Pegasus were to contribute to the Hurricane), needed to reach a WP of 10 or greater, doing so would allow them to break the record. Ignoring the sillyness of expecting some of these guys to double their speed in such a short time (Since the first pony to test their WP clocked in 5) we can figure out the approximate number of grown Pegasus in Cloudsdale/Ponyville. First off, we subtract Rainbow dash's speed of 16, giving us 984. At 10WP a pony, we have 98.4, or rather 99 ponies other then Rainbow Dash. So including Rainbow back in, we have approximately 100 Pegasus living in the area, not counting smaller ones.
Perhaps we're looking at the math incorrectly. We're assuming here that 2 ponies at 10 WP will give a cumulative total of 20 wing power, when that may not be true. Maybe airflow patterns or particular formations allow the pegasi to increase the final WP beyond the sum of the individual Pegasi's measurements? Maybe the second pony is able to utilize the current from the first pony's contrail to increase their output, as the air is already motion after the lead pony. Or for that matter, Once the tornado itself starts going it stands to reason that since keeping the momentum of a rotation going is easier than pushing in a linear path that they could increase the efficiency of the formation as the tornado built up. This is of course assuming that WP was more a measurement of overall air movement rather than a measurement of force output. I assume this is the case because the method of Twilights measurements appeared to be based solely on air movement rather than something factoring in the weight of a pony or overall work performed by any given pony. It looked like it was only taking into account airspeed/flow.
What we need here is some of Macintosh's fancy mathematics...
Nope, I'm pretty sure it's cumulative or Fluttershy wouldn't have been freaking out about 5 wing power.
BTW, was anyone else half expecting fluttershy to end up being as fast as rainbow dash or possibly even more so. Also, what would rainbow dash's wing bower be during a sonic rainboom?
You people and your math :colbert:
Based on the episode title I was expecting Fluttershy to go to Twilight or Zecora for help improving her wingpower, resulting in a spell or potion gone horribly awry.
Also, didn't Fluttershy catch Rainbow Dash while dragging a hot air balloon and the rest of the mane six behind her during The Return of Harmony?
Yes she did. I guess it's a sort of "If you're determined for the right reasons" thing. I think it's also that she has the skills, but doesn't believe herself or something?
Raindbow Dash was also being dragged down by Rarity and Pinkie Pie at the time, and I would assume Rainbow can't go near full speed lugging around her own wait as well as two other ponies.

Firin mah Twilight!
Some of my friends are already working on a Fallout 3 mod.
How do people keep getting stuff from upcoming episodes? o_O
Smart money's on EquestriaDaily.com They've apparently become a large enough force in the community to have garnered attention from Hasbro and DHX media directly. A couple of times lately they've grabbed grainy or poor quality teaser videos only to be contacted be Hasbro soon after and given a HQ link. Basically, Hasbro loves Bronies and wants us to have some fan service.
The Crash picture was the best one in my opinion.
It's funny how the meme about Derpy loving muffins comes from a line in an episode, and yet it wasn't even Derpy who said the line (though I know why eveyone thought it was).
I wish someone would actually make that game.
EDIT:
Actually, Derring Do fits the genre better, I honestly hope Hasbro makes a platforming Derring Do game.
I'd play it.
I'd also play Fighting is Magic, but I guess it's vaporware now. :(
Eh? When did this get thrown in as Vaporware? They just released a new video a few days ago on their YouTube channel. Sure as hell hope you're wrong abut this, I was pretty stoked for it.
Equestria Online appears to be vaporware though. Apparently infighting having something to do with the project lead wanting to retain all rights rather than allow his cohorts to retain rights to the specific chunks they worked on. Team split into EquestriaOnline (headed by original project lead Raindrop) and the newly formed Legends of Equestria (featuring most of the old EO crew and using most of the assets designed by that crew for EO.)
I just got myself Applejack.
Don't you wish this was real?

Discussion?
Please?
When I first saw the above picture, I was so overwhelmed with joy that My skipped a beat! And then I realised the truth. If only. If only.
The filly is "Dinky Hooves - Derpy's daughter". She's been in a few episodes but I'm not sure if that's the only one where she had derpy eyes.
Fighting is Magic is a PC game, while it's not officially supported, supposedly one of their guys is working on getting it running on OSX as well. I believe EquestriaOnline was supposed to be Mac and PC, which would lead me to believe that the Legends of Equestria crew will go the same route, considering they're using EO assets.

By the way, has anyone seen a really good pinkie pie face in sneaky costume I can use as an avatar (perhaps a resize) I would really appreciate it. Especially if it was one with blank background so it will just be pinkie on the forum.
for what I mean by blank, see my signature.
I never managed to get a Pinky Pie McDonalds toy. Anybody want to trade one for Applejack, Twilight Sparkle, or Cheerliee?
Is the McDonalds thing over? I heard it is but I haven't checked yet.
I'll trade a twi or applejack for a rainbowdash.
Also I'll trade a blind bag (after I open it to make sure it isn't rainbow dash) for a rainbow dash.
Hypo, the blind bags are numbered. o_O
I could not find a single number that was different on any of them.
It's not the ones on the bottom, It's near the hole for the hangers at the top.
I did not know that. Anyone want to send me a rainbow?
I'll keep a look out for the Pinkie avatar, Hypo. Dunno when I'll find it though.
Also, for those who are interested, I am currently practicing drawing the ponies, and it's gonna take some practice I can tell you. It took me forever just to get the horn right, and the eyes don't look like eyes yet in my opinion, and one her (I think) hind legs keeps coming out wrong, and I think I've errased so many mistakes it's unsavable :(, but I am just going to keep practicing - I'll keep doing better drawings on after the other if I have to.
I wonder about the ugly toy lily blossom (I think that's right) she was in both mcdonalds and blindbags, which makes me think she is going to be a very important pony at some point.
I will say this is probably the worst episode of the season.
1) I don't like the CMC anyway.
2) It seemed out of character for any of the main six to be so in support of a gossip collum such as this. Especially Rarity, who is in a line of work that tends to have bad gossip about it.
3) They never seem to make a distinction between gossip and stories about people.
4) No way in hell anyone is going to be interested in a schools gossip coll um.
There were a couple saving graces to this episode, the best one being 'et tu sweetie belle?'. Lost my trout on that line.
I have to agree with Neo on this latest episode. Not the best episode for this season.
It made me ashamed of scootaloo for the first time. Also they made Fluttershy cry.
Fluttershy having tail extensions did amuse me though.
Though the Idea that it is something even worth being embarrassed that other people find it out silly.
Opened my last blindbag a little while ago.

Not sure how to feel about this. On the one hand, it has an accurate cutie mark, and the correct coloring. On the other hand, it does not resemble fluttershy. On the original hand, it's Fluttershy.
That Dr Who animation was excelent :)
Also, new episode. I think I enjoyed this one too, so it looks like this show can deliver the goods for the most part. I detected an error at the end - look for me in the comments to discover what...
EDIT: Oh sorry, a lot of posts came up while I was uploading this reply, sorry guys. Still liked it to some extent though.
So what, do you guys have ass burgers then? Mine ended up on my chest.
I think they kind of did, but they didn't force it on us. If that makes sense. I do agree on point 4 though, but I guess they just needed to go along with that to make the episode work (they could have made it so they older ponies don't realize it's a school paper, or something) and probably 2 as well.Quote:
3) They never seem to make a distinction between gossip and stories about people.
Like I say, I did enjoy this episode, but mostly for the humor and the references Not the best CMC episode, but not the worst in my mind either.
The one pony who was running it, however, made it clear she wanted more stuff like the gum thing that was their first issue.
I'm not talking like the story they wanted to do on spike that got rejected, but just random stories about things people had done in public eye. There is a big difference in publishing a story about kids acting up in a store, and publishing someones diary entries. This episode tried to make them sound like the same thing.
Add diamond Tiara to a list of ponies I don't like.
Diamond Tiara serves no purpose except to be disliked.
I dunno, I'm gonna have to buck the trend and say I thought this episode was pretty awesome. The lesson was vague and muddled, I'll openly support that complaint. The moral itself was a little off because they never went into the difference between gossip, news and invasion of privacy. For me though, the moment to moment one liners, facial expressions and wtf moments totally made up for any shortcomings. SpoilersesesBig Mac and Applejack swapping speech patterns when they got pissed was classic. Celestia stuffing her face? Rarity's several violent declarations? Twilight throwing up a forcefield out of spite? Poor little Scoots only able to hover her flank? It was pretty much wall to wall hilarity for me.
I agree with some of those, but I disagree with (SPOILER)Big Mac. It was pretty funny when AJ was just doing the 'Eyup' thing, and while I awaited Big Mac, it just felt awkward coming from him. It was no where near up to snuff with his other long dialogue with AJ for the whole Applebuck season thing.
The force-field was entertaining though. :p
I effing loved this episode. I just could not stop laughing. Also I kept expecting Diamond Tiara to go "I WANT PICTURES. PICTURES OF SPIDERMAN!"
I may have to watch it again to check if there really was a blur between the "good" stories the "bad" stories. The impression I got is that they created the illusion of them being the same as that's what the CMC were being lead to believe, and you the audience are supposed to be ahead of them, and by the tame they realize what you knew, they're blackmailed into it. I don't think they tried to make them seem the same thing, just that the characters thought they were at first, but I will rewatch it to be sure. Also the pony running the paper was not a CMC, and we've established that she's meant to be a bitch anyway.Quote:

Did it need to actually be said by the characters, or would that just shove it down everyone's throats? That said I will watch it again to be sure, as this show has goofed on it's lessons before (The unfortunatly named "Mysterious Mare Do Well" is a good example, even though I seem to be the only one who actually liked the episode, I do see an obvious flaw with the way the moral was handled).Quote:

Did anyone notice that while Diamond Tiara was featured in enough scenes to be considered at least a semi-central character; her so called best friend Silver Spoon didn't appear once? It's probably because she wasn't on the paper team or something, but seeing her absence, and seeing that Diamond's personality appears to have gotten even worst now, reopens what I thought when I saw "Family Appreciation Day" which is; what if they did an episode where Diamond Tiara becomes so spoiled and so bitchy that even Silver Spoon can't stand her anymore? I personally think that would be a good episode, and would be good for the target audience as it will show them that you shouldn't be stuck up and everything (I personally view Silver Spoon to be the lesser of the two evils, if that makes sense).
Thats a terribly unconvincing April Fools. :p
Edit: And the botched lesson is really only a small portion of my dislike for the episode. I never enjoyed Cutie mark Crusaders, and the majority of jokes with them I don't find funny in the least. Its the culmination of dislike of CMC, a botched lesson, and everyone seeming so out of character in their support of the gossip collum at first.
The amount of jokes I found funny could be counted on one hand.
'Et Tu Sweetie Belle', Rarity threatening to kill them all, and scootaloos flying atttempt.
As I also mentioned I was amusied at the fact they had tail extensions, but boggled by why it would be embarassing, though I have never known or heard of anyone seeing extensions in anything resembling a negative light.
And I enjoyed Mare-Do Well. Not one of the better episodes, but still fun.
At least I'm not the only one who doesn't outright hate it. To be honest, the worst aspect of it for me was (aside from the fact they gave a supposed Super Hero a title which was horse pun on a phrase that means "a bad guy") was that while Dash did need to be put in her place, and while I thought it was cool how they did it - why didn't any of them even try to talk to Dash first? Yeah, okay she might not have listened, but it wasn't believable that her friends wouldn't have tried talking to her before humiliating her first if that makes sense. Loved the humor though, I really like Scootaloo's feeble attempt at acting, and the fact that Dash doesn't see right through it. :p
Also, and I realize that it's been online for ages, and you've probably all read it already, but... I've finally read My Little Dashie. It was beautiful. Words can't even begin to explain how I felt by the time I'd finished reading it...
I never realised this thread.. i'm now in heaven T^T
I can't wait for the next episode x3
aaaaaaand another one. Welcome Brony.
What the hay was out of character about supporting the column? It provided lighthearted, amusing stories at first. Snips and Snails getting stuck together by gum; A couple of babbies cry at the store; The Great and Powerful Trixie's Secrets Revealed. They show a clear and logical progression towards being unacceptably invasive. It was only when the CMC started running out of stories and Diamond Tiara pressed them that they started getting invasive, and that was exactly when the Mane Six started to have doubts about it, which seems pretty reasonable to me.
And Sweetie Belle herself asks why on Earth Rarity and her friends would want to read the Foal Free Press and it's because gum on their bum!
The only one that had doubts was Twilight Sparkle. The rest showed no issues until they were the ones featured.
I agree that the gum and kids were rather light hearted stories mind you, (they weren't specific enough about the light hearted stories), but there in lies the problem. Diamond Tiara, upon reading the article about the gum, immidiately refers to it as getting stories about ponies when they think they are alone. Even her reaction to the crying babies makes the article come off as less then flattering.
Mind you, these are the only stories we've heard about during the scene in the Spa. Everypony except Twilight has no issues what so ever with whats going on, yet twilight is already talking about how Gabby Gums 'values no ones privacy'. This is where stories like the Mayor Dying her maine and Celestia eating the cake come up, and still only Twilight thinks it can be hurtful.
Then the first collum that's not gossip, i.e. the spike story, it gets shut down as 'not being the same kind of journalism that got them this far'. And even the CMC have said the feel bad about these stories they've been doing up until now. It seems the episode has made no distinction as to what column's are just the light hearted ones or mean spirited ones.
To further the point, we get to the next scene of the colums about AJ and Twilight, which AJ is immediately pissed, as is Twilight. Rarity brushes it off as completely Harmless, as do Fluttershy and Pinkie (Not buy saying anything, but by seeming completely un-phased by AJ's reaction to the article on her. There is no way I can believe that was in character for Fluttershy.) We then get, in this order, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, and Rarity having articles about them, and them getting upset over it.
There is a big difference here in that the articles feature lies, but between them already feeling bad about the initial articles, as well as Twilights earlier comments about the articles being hurtful and feeling bad about the featured ponies, there isn't shown to be any distinction, and in fact reason to believe that the articles are all in the same ballpark of mean spirited.
And I still hold it's out of character for the ponies.
1) Rarity, as I mentioned, should already know the adverse effects of such columns. She is in a profession that knows the downsides.
2) You would tell me that Fluttershy, the one who represesnts Kindness, has no issues reading a column that to date has shown nothing but peoples negative sides, in addition to not reacting to AJ getting so upset over one and brushing it off like its nothing? This isn't something as objectively silly as the Twilight Freak out episode mind you.
3) Other then AJ being in a spa after the whole sleepover episode shenanagins (Just something odd I noticed, nothing that's a big deal mind you. :p), it may just be me but she never seemed the type at all interested in Gossip, which is exactly what this column is, light hearted or not. That just may be me though.
4) It's pretty much the same for Rainbow Dash as AJ for me. She seems in no way someone interested in a Gossip Column.
5. Pinkie Pie amounts to the same as Fluttershy. She brushed off the stories of AJ and Twilight until she read the one about her. The Pony whose main purpose in life is to bring a smile to the faces of others.
6.) I'm derailed as to how Twilight can think 'Gabby Gums' can be mean and hurtful at times, how she can 'feel bad about the featured ponies', and STILL say she likes Gabby Gums.
Well the show is kind of limited by the fact that it is for kids. What the heck kind of stories are they supposed to state are being printed? 'Fluttershy Caught Yiffing; Angel Speaks Of Years Of Abuse', 'Princess Luna dies in high-speed paparazzo car wreck', 'Trixie's Sixth Abortion'? :p They couldn't just say everypony's diary was getting published, they couldn't just say "Pony's secrets revealed!" or the like, they had to have some more 'meat' as it were, but the constraints of the fact that bronies are secondary to the show's intended audience meant that these additional stories had to be fairly lightweight affairs. So I can see that there might be some dissonance here, I guess I'm just more willing to forgive it than you are.
But why you think Rarity would be opposed to gossip I cannot fathom. She's in the fashion industry, that doesn't mean she realizes how gossip can hurt, it means she partakes in gossiping and thinks it's fine. She's so casual about it precisely BECAUSE of her profession, not in spite of it!
Ponies condoning gossip didn't seem particularly unusual to me because if you go out into the real world pretty much everyone condones gossip. Is it a good thing? Not really. Does everyone do it anyway? Yes.
As far as I can tell, people in that position tend to be a lot less likely to gossip because they tend to be the target of it more then most. I never hear about celebrity types being the ones spreading gossip, I only ever here them speak out against it. (It is less widespread when it comes to fashion designers though, but it applies to people who are big into whoever fasion designers are.)
I guess it could be argued that she isn't that big in the industry yet, but she constantly seems fully aware of how it works, so it's just awkward that she doesn't seem to realize the hurtful nature of gossip. The more light hearted stories I'm fine with, I mean her getting a chuckle out of it isn't an issue. It's only an issue when they try to play off all the stories as being bad(I recall mentioning the CMC feeling guilt about all of their stories prior to the mentioning of Spikes getting rejected.) The poor job at differentiating between bad gossip and the light hearted stories is where the problems start forming for me.
I do find it odd that this is what we end up debating, since really its secondary to my real dislikes of the episode, being I just don't like the CMC. :p
Hey guys, I am about to be completely serious, this is the single most important post in the history of this thread.
I'm spoilering the news for those of us with weak hearts.
THE ABSOLUTE BEST THING Ponies are on Netflix
My collection is finally complete! :jess:

My collection is finally complete! :jess:

You said that already. What did you think about my news?
No I didn't, because my collection wasn't complete until this morning!
And I don't have a Netflix account.
While I am deeply bothered by the Hasbro and McDonalds toys design, congratulations Pike! :D
And I don't give to trouts about Netflix myself. :p
You guys are terrible. Although to be honest, I already downloaded all the episodes from season 1
I don't really care that the show is on Netflix either. I can already watch the episodes on my TV through the YouTube uploads.
Yeah, no offense Hypo, but I didn't even know what Netflix is when I got here, and still don't. YouTube is enough until it's released on DVD for me. Congartulations on completing the set Pike.
^It's okay Hypo, we appreciate it :).
I was pretty stoked when I saw it hit Netflix. I use Netflix all the time, though not for pony. (I've got all that downloaded already trololol copyrights...) It's addition to Netflix however allows me to easily introduce it to new folk that would never take the time to download or youtube it. I'm an evangelical brony, I preach the gospel of Celestia from the book of Twilight Sparkle.
Ignore this. Don't want to delete incase lower posts damaged.
Please be real, please be real. :hyper:Quote:

Scootaloo has parents?!
You know, I'll probably skip this coming episode and just wait until the second part comes out so I can watch it all at once.
Aren't both parts coming out on the same day?
If that's the case I retract my previous plans. :p
Apropos of nothing: What are the Equestrian events that can be translated to our own? The ones I can think of are;
Nightmare Night = Halloween
Hearts and Hooves Day = Valentines’ Day
I have also seen people saying that "Hearth's Warming Eve" is meant to be Christmas. Is that true? Do they get presents on that day? I realize that the main event is discovering how Equestria was discovered (which is in continuity, as Lauren stated this long before she left the show, and long before the episode aired.) Any more?
My dog ate Celestia
Guys this episode was so great
Dat James Bond
Dat old timey silent film
Dat portrait of some Prussian pony military advisor
I just lost it
I''ll be watching it later, along with something else slightly releated to this topic... :hyper:
No offense, but does anyone know the answer to my earlier question? Just curious.
Had three comments here. One, it is now impossible for them to claim this as a show for preschoolers. Silent film section, toddlers can't read yo. Two, Pony Joe and Donut Joe, twin brothers or canon fail? Three, is anyone else convinced Applejack did something ridiculous they never talked about? She was sweating bullets the whole time they were calling out the culprits...
^Wasn't the target audience seven year olds? Sureley they're not preschoolers unless it's different in America.
7 year olds would probably be... 1st grade? Unless I'm mistaken. By then you'd be one fish two fish-ing. I'm pretty sure they're not gonna know what a cur is though.
Wow, 7 is 3rd grade over here. Never new it was that different. Thanks. Hope you didn't mind me asking.
Well I'm pretty sure the target demographic is kids and their parents, so the kids can just ask their parents what's going on.
That makes a lot of sense. Of course, there's always at least on kid who somehow knows the words or refferences himself/herself. It's like when I was a kid, a TV show would make a reference to something "before my time", and I'd still get it, because I had managed to find out what it was (I watched a lot of TV as a kid, so I saw many things).
Anyway, my life story isn't important right now; It's time for me to watch My Little Pony. (SPOILER)And after that, I'll watch Friendship is Magic.
Yeah, Lauren Faust said she made the show "for kids and their parents". I'd say it's similar to Sesame Street where they had all sorts of parodies that would fly over kids' heads (various popular music and movie references-- an obvious spoof of "My Fair Lady" comes to mind.)
No offense, but how would "popular music" go over the kid's heads? I know I like obscure things, but I never knew music was obscure. Mind you I like music from all decades. No offense just asking again.
Well she didn't necessarily say it had to be current popular music. I assume there is also a possibility that small children would not get musical references irrespective of the era.
Yeah. This may have been pointed out earlier, but during the scene in "Putting your hoof down" where Fluttershy finally sees how much of a monster she turned out to be, the music playing is similar to the music that plays during the ending of the Incredible Hulk show, The Lonely Man.
Scene from 'Putting Your Hoof Down'
The Incredible Hulk ending theme
Nothing scores higher than the three (or two, as one is more may be just open to interpretation) Final Fantasy references we've seen so far. Of course, I'm kind of biased to the FF series. Can't imagine why...
PS: Sorry NorthernChaosGod I almost missed your reply. Yeah, I guess, but I guess it depends on what kind of music the kids listens too (ever since I was a kid, I always liked a really wide variety) not I'm not trying to argue, I just don't think that all kids only like things from "now" if that makes sense.
Eh? Maybe my fanboy is slipping, but I've caught zero references to FF. Fill me in?
Don't forget the David Bowie Reference.
From the most likley to be a refferences to the least likley;
1. The classic Phoenix Summon animation being shown in Dragon Quest - kind of funny really, you name the episode after one RPG, and use the animation from another.
2. There is a Final Fantasy VIII magic sound effect several times when magic is used. The first time on record being when Twilight "picks up" Spike with magic in Fluttershy's scene in episode one.
3. This is probably a coincidence, but the final scene where the elements are revealed to Luna and they stop her had a Final Fantasy "last boss" feel to it.
Do you mean there being an episode called Diamond Dogs? If so, I totally got that the first go. :)
The episode was 'A Dog and Pony Show' but the dogs were The Diamond Dogs. :p
And finally watched the new episode. On a whole I don't think the episode is amazing, but it does have a lot of the minor details I love about this show.
I immidiately caught Rarity's new hair, but only because every murder mystery has a classy lady with that hair style. And I'll spoiler the rest for those who haven't seen it.
(SPOILER)I should have guessed it was those three right away in foresight. I immidately thought the first shadow was Rainbow, Rarity had the evil lady hair style, and the main was clearly fluttershy's. I knew all of these things, yet for some reason I in no way pieced it together.
The only thing I didn't like was Big Mac struggling with the cake. The guy who dragged to Oxen and a cart of Anvils with no issues what so ever.
The smurf is in that cake?
But yes, very pleasent episode. I loved the hat Shenanigans too. :p
Oh that's right - silly me. :jess:
Yeah, I enjoyed this episode though there were ones I liked better, I could have done without the scene at the end the other chefs had food on random places though, for some reason it didn't look right in a Friendship is Magic episode.
Agree on Big Mac though, in every other episode he's implied to be pretty strong. Also I think I heard somewhere that strength is the Earth Pony's main advantage.
Unicorn's Advantage = Magic
Earth Pony's Advantage = Strength
Pegasis's Advantage = Flight
Alicorn Advantage = All three I guess. :p
I'm pretty sure that Big Mac struggling with the cake is just Rule of Funny, guize.
That's what his niece calls him.
I didn't enjoy this episode as much as I thought I would. I gotta tell you, if that cake really weighs enough to slow down Big Mac, then Futtershy, Dashie and Rarity are going to gain a ton of weight.
Also, in terms of consistency how can Twilight be the reader/bookworm/egghead of the group and not know that the correct term really was "whodunnit" in that context? Or were mystery books the one genre she never read?
For those still wondering, the finale is scheduled to air on 2012-04-21 and that's both parts. So it doesn't look like there's any YouTube airings this Saturday, so I guess I'll watch something else :) Yeah, a YouTube episode on Saturday has become a kind of tradition for me. Though I sometimes watch on weekdays as currently Boomerang has stopped showing it :(.
So no episode tomorrow? Good, because I work tomorrow morning. xD

Oh what, I don't have a list of the answers. I'm nearly positive I know everything till the last row, but I could be way wrong.
I could probably get a list if you really want
I barely survived the weekend. A weekend without ponies isn't one worth living AAAAAAAARGH!
It's okay, I was just wondering out of curiosity that's all, as I probably didn't score as high as I'd like, partly due to fatigue as it was a stupidly late/early time of night/day when I wrote it. Also, I must confess I peaked at Proto's answers, and noticed a few that I missed (some of which I proceded to kick myself for, one of them should never have been missed) but to avoid cheating, I have left my answers as they are. (Also, some pony's have more than one name based on fan naming and toy naming, and some ponies I recognise, but don't actually know their names).
Thankfully if I'm right, this weekend is the weekend where we get to see double ponies, can you handle it? I know I can!
DOUBRE PONIES!!!! but then summer.
-_- NoooOOOOooooOOOOooooo....
I like that they officially named Lyra Lyra Heartstrings.
