Mafia XXV: Action Movie Badasses Game Thread Day 6

You want a role claim? Understandable, this late and with so much left to uncover. I am in all practicality a Vanilla Town, but that is not quite the extent of it. I am the Priest. I cannot cast a lynching vote, but in all other respects am exactly the same as an ordinary townie.

I don't like the insistence that I am scum based on Jet Li's alignment. We are not Brothers; my alignment and his are independent of each other and have no correlation. The idea that a member of the mafia lies within the four players added after the game began is sound, from a theoretical stand point. But you have to consider all the variables.

I received my account information partway through Day 1 and, at that point, Samuel L Jackson was the person of most suspicion and in my opinion looked guaranteed for the chopping block. Perhaps it looked the same to Teddy Roosevelt and he prepared two extra townies to try and balance things back in the town's favor what with the loss of a potentially powerful role. I don't wish to speculate on the Game Master's intent any more than that, but I don't think there is any guarantee that Vin Diesel, Sylvester Stallone or myself are mafia. The game, after all, is not necessarily balanced from the get-go.

I don't think Ford is scum. I also don't like the way we're playing this out for two reasons. One, I don't like meta-gaming, and that's what this essentially is. Two, it's based on a lot of assumptions, none of which I'm comfortable in making, and I'm surprised you all are comfortable doing so.

I don't see anything in the content of Eastwood's posts that seems particularly scummy, but his voting record has some odd holes, and Uma's post sounds reasonable...involved early and then disappearing as the game goes along, that sound odd. I know people have rl trout going on but from 13 to 1 post per day is a big change.

I know Bruce Willis has publicly stated his targets (I cannot recall if he has done this every day or not, but it does not matter), but I do not think it is your place or anyone's to influence where he decides to use his power. Protecting Uma Thurman is all good and well, but if the Mafia know she is being protected, they won't target her. I don't suppose you would mind lowering the pool of potential targets of a night, what with being one of the people carrying out the kills.

You had just voted for Uma Thurman, and now, suddenly, you are content with her being protected. That seems a little strange to me, considering you claimed her role claim made no sense. I also dislike the way you approached the vote, apologizing for helping to lynch the cop and vowing not to do it again, as if you could be sure Uma Thurman was guilty and everything was going to be okay because you said so.

It is convenient that you are the person with the next highest amount of votes, as killing you will help me live through the day and bring the town one step closer to victory. If anyone desires further justification for my vote on Clint Eastwood, look to the points made by Uma Thurman and Samuel L Jackson, both confirmed townspeople as far as I am concerned.

Now you all know why I was reluctant to claim before - because I don't think Vanillas should claim except in extreme circumstances.

To explain: My theory was, for symmetry: Vanilla, Vanilla, Power role, Mafia. Or, and I did not initially disclose this as I did not want someone claiming it, Vanilla, Vanilla, Power role, Harmful Town Role (Bomb, Beloved Princess, etc).

Well the priest isn't really a power role is it? I mean it's really kind of a diminished townie, so it could work if Laddy thought the mafia already had enough power.

If this is true, it could also mean that there were already 4 mafia in the game, even before the new guys came in, which sounds imbalanced but if the town had enough crazy powerful roles, it could work.

Might even be why Laddy brought in the new guys.

When you say 4 mafia, Arnold, is that 4 scum or 4 mafia? The reason I ask, is of course, the Psychopath. I'd find it hard to believe there's 4 mafia and a Psychopath on top. Also, worth nothing that Ford and Li came in after the Psychopath died.

Also, to comment on meta-gaming. Eh, a little bit. It's dodgy ground. However, it's a dick move from a host to add new players in after the kick off. Not that I'm complaining, Laddy! I get why you did it and it makes sense. But, if you want to add them as a gameplay element, the actual addition itself has to be a gameplay element too, if that makes sense. You can't really avoid it and treat them as Just Another Person. There's an advantage to coming in late, and this is a disadvantage of it.

6 hours? 8 hours? I think somewhere in there, though now that I think about it I really have no idea. I'll go back and find out lol.

Vin Diesel: It could be that one of the three of us is lying, but I am reluctant to pursue that line of thinking. Personally, I have no suspicion on either you or Sylvester Stallone, and obviously would prefer not to die in order to prove my role.

If there were four members of the mafia present at the beginning, then the addition of four more townies would theoretically balance things better. At the very least, we know that the original members house at least one member of the mafia. Four town aligned roles could easily have been added with the idea that suspicion would automatically follow them due to perceived imbalance. Again, speculating on the Game Master's intent can easily lead us astray and none can be sure of it barring the man himself.

I feel a better strategy is to focus on the original cast members and who is the most likely to be mafia aligned there, but given the general support of the "mafia hidden in the new guys" theory, I'm afraid that it might be one of us - looking most like me at the moment - stepping up to the gallows this afternoon.

The problem with killing the new guys is that, after the first one dies, then the next lynch would have to be another new guy, and then the last if each pops pro-town. So it's a big risk because if none of them are scum, then that's -3 town.

Sticking with Clint. I agree with Arnold, it's useless wanting to go through and lynch every new guy. Could one of them be lying? Sure, but so could one of the old guys. I'd love Clint to also claim since he's tied for the lead of the lynch.

Arnold's suggestion seems very reasonable, and I do agree that it's very risky to look within us new guys for one of the mafia, if one was to be within them. I have been looking at Clint for quite awhile, and I feel he's the most suspicious out of everyone today. I'll go place a vote on him.

I disagree and think Meta gaming is fine. Sorry that you don't but I think Ford is an additional member. I still don't buy Uma's claim either. Just like when Jason claimed gunsmith powers and that Weaver had a gun. I view them as similar as the proof is there that they "did" something. Statham knew weaver was a cop so that was an easy claim to make. In this case I think Uma is claiming a role that likely doesn't exist and how convenient that she and 10 other people already for really reals used up their one and only chance in stupid shenanigans on day 1.

You do seem to have forgotten aobut the mafia Prostitute.

There are a large number of reasons why there were no kills the first night. We also had a bulletproof townie that could've been targeted. If you are saving some sort of roleclaim and planning to use night 1's no death as "proof" it won't be sufficient.

So are we solid on Eastwood? I'd hoped that the bigwigs would speak up at some point, but nobody's really talking. 2/4 of the votes on him are late-comers who haven't contributed much in the way of actually analyzing what's going on. I think I trust Uma, but then again I trust Jackson too, and his vote is on Ford. I've been following my gut so far, and it's been good to me, but I also don't trust my judgement on these things so far as to be a deciding factor, especially after I screwed up with Weaver. I'm tempted to drop my vote so there's a tie between Ford and Eastwood and someone who knows better what's going on can make a more informed decision. This isn't nearly as clear a situation as Statham was.

I'm willing to give the added in players a break. As Arnold Schwarzenegger said, if we lynch one of those guys and they flip town, then we have to lynch them all until we find this mysterious Mafia member. Too big a risk; that would be the three mislynches I mentioned with a remote chance of actually hitting scum.

If we're going to lynch "randomly" until we hit someone, I would say we do Clint Eastwood, Daniel Craig, and Nicolas Cage as they're more likely to contain one scum member in their ranks.

Sounds like we can all agree on Eastwood? :P

Time is up, so Eastwood is up whether we like it or not. I'd have liked him to come back and try to argue his way out of it some more so I could see if he'd slip. His posts seem to indicate a claim of Doctor but at this point I would've preferred he say that straight up so we could lynch someone else on policy. An additional Doctor, if true, means we have 3 people protected at night, with the added bonus of Bruce possibly role-blocking a night kill attempt.

So my tentative plan for tomorrow's action is to lynch Daniel Craig. Role claims, night results, and other arguments notwithstanding, Daniel Craig is a straightforward roll of the dice with the added bonus of helping the sick player get some rest. He's not exactly going to benefit the team if he's laid up in bed.

Also, where's Willis been? I'm trying to decide if his absence is scummy. He missed all of yesterday as far as I can tell, and he hasn't been here today. Life could have got to him, I guess, but it's some odd timing, and he's been kind of an oddball from the beginning. .I know you said he's clean Jackson, but I don't know if that's a feint, or you being a smartass, or you being serious, or what. I don't want to go after him though because I'm afraid he's the puppetmaster, as enigmatic as he's been and as powerful as his power is. Whoever that person is can't die. I hope you smarter players know who it is and are protecting him.

After giving it a little more thought, I'm pretty sure my Willis fears are unfounded. I don't think a mafia member, especially as the lone remaining member, would disappear like this, precisely because it seems scummy and I'm sure mafia at this stage want to avoid any semblance of dirtiness. Wish he'd show up though. I know my vote may not seem to matter to the more experienced players, but dammit I still want to play and be involved, and to do that (without screwing up) it helps to have everyone else involved too.

I want you to pay particular attention to Daniel Craig's Day 4 vote. He swooped in and just voted for Jason Statham; I'd call it a pretty textbook bandwagon vote, and it is mighty fine as a technique to bus your teammate.

Also, our townie who is responsible for switching the targets of the night kills can probably step forward and give us the deets so we can have a better idea of who is what. Role claiming time, folks!

I can pretty easily agree with your logic. Just looking through that. Also his vote on Statham day one looks like a pretty perfect distancing vote.

Hold on, I would like to see when he voted for Statham day 1 as that was a pretty close day, shifted by me. It might be unlikely for mafia to off each other so early.

I do agree with Arnold that Brucey has been pretty quiet as of lately. Is he too busy to come by to make a quick post here now and then? It might be the case, but I can't say if this is being scummy. With his role possibly being town-aligned, I doubt he would be quiet on purpose to mislead anyone, so calm down Arnie. He's a good guy in my book.

I would like to hear from Mr. Craig himself before I determine my vote.

We did lynch one Sam--Statham. But I'd love to lynch one more. =)

Uma, so you looked back in the thread at the actual vote? Because by Sam's chart, Craig had two votes day 1, one on Statham, one on me.

I'm not sure what you all are seeing in the voting pattern that makes Craig scum.

I have a theory (not about Craig), but I don't know if I should hold off on it or not. You two seem adamant about Craig, and I don't want to rock the boat. I'm not as solid on Craig as you are. And I definitely don't want to vote him out just because he's sick/inactive. We have numbers without him. If he's scum, prove it and I'll vote with you.
Until then, I'll hold off on voting. I don't feel solid about anybody right now really; my one prevailing train of thought is a little off the wall, and needs more "proof" before I lay it out for you I think.

I'm not solid on Craig, but yes I looked through. Actually it was day zero not day one! My bad.

By this point for me its process of elimination, my two big scum targets yesterday were Eastwood and Nick Cage. Now they're both dead. I don't think it's Bruce, his roleclaim explains why Jackson didn't die.

That leaves it to Craig, Sly, Sam, and Arnold. I never think Sam is mafia, I know who he is and I'm completely incapable of thinking he's mafia, that's why I tried to kill him Day 1 :p. I don't think you're mafia Arnold, I think your new. Then it comes between Sly and Craig, of the two I'd take Craig over Sly.

I'd like to do more voting analysis of everyone, but I don't have the time right now as I'm off in a few.

Just over 12 1/2 hours, people.

I came into this game with the goal of showing there was a third party killer and tricking scum into attacking me. The delayed start meant this game fell during a terrible time and I have sacrificed sleep in order to keep up.

But I am not going to be the Town's salvation. I picked two scum members early on because of some intuition and successful gambits, and have only been useful thanks to lucky lynching first up and Bruce Willis' aid.

Daniel Craig is my target for many reasons. He is statistically not a great loss - if he had roleclaimed that might have changed. I have run scenarios and town can win with methodical and mathematical lynching.

His poor defence today is odd. Nicolas Cage was loud yesterday, seemingly just because he was drunk. But I don't want to focus too much on behavior as my actions directly contradict power townie playbook 101.

His voting behavior, as mentioned, is suspect. I find him to be the single most suspicious person remaining. I have my doubts about most of you still, but I have been operating under self designated parameters for days now. If I messed up, I am sorry, but I hardly feel responsible for a potential loss.

I forget the rest of my post (it messed up earlier) but I think Daniel Craig should first roleclaim then die.

The final piece in the puzzle is that it's Craig or Arnie who is the one offing the mafia at night. No, I'm not outing you - it's common sense and process of elimination as everyone else has claimed :p

Uma Thurman, despite my proclaiming of her innocence, has a roleclaim that cannot be confirmed.

Bruce Willis is town aligned. It would not make sense for the Mafia to have two roleblockers, and it would not make sense for Uma Thurman to lie about her role if Bruce Willis is not what he claims.

Sylvester Stallone and Harrison Ford are probably what they say they are. I can only imagine that extra townies were added to compensate for a strong Mafia.

Bruce Willis is telling the truth but your flip has nothing to do with it. His claim is true because I did not send a night action in the first night and yet I did not die. As our Doctor was naive, there is literally no other explanation for it. Bruce Willis is telling the truth and it has nothing to do with casting doubt over you.

No I didn't take any action yesterday sorry I was out and about in the real world.

Seriously though I don't think Vin Diesel is mafia and that's about as much as I got, I haven't been paying a lot of attention for the last few days. I would go for either Sly or Harrison, probably Harrison because he's not Rocky. :redface:

I think we can, using your abilities, pull off a spectacular move that confirms our scum bag. Last night they targeted me, 'cause I protected myself. But if, tonight, I protect nobody, and you choose the most suspicious person and nobody dies, we lynch that person and hey presto!

I don't think there are two Mafia members left, by the way, which is the only way this technique would be able to work. I'm not suspicious of Sylvester Stallone or Harrison Ford at this point. And yes, Proto, I am using meta-gaming, but that is what happens when the conditions are changed!

Uma Thurman, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Vin Diesel are the extent of possibilities for me.

Vin Diesel could have been a member of the Mafia who was forgotten by the host and remembered by Teddy.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was not our Nexus and as far as I know hasn't claimed so could be anything.

Uma Thurman's claim is impossible to prove unless you roleblock her and someone still dies, but I'm not sure I want to die to confirm her :aimkiss: Some of the arguments from her today were a bit shady, and I don't like the way she tried to turn suspicion onto me because of my roleclaims. There is a bit more I could mention, but I dunno.

Arnold is a smurfing non-entity for me. He is suspicious based on arbitrary, circumstantial evidence that doesn't even apply to him (read: everybody else was innocent, so he looks guilty).

Vin Diesel terrifies me. Uma Thurman is non-confirmed. The other two don't register; the way things have panned out, I'm confident that they were introduced to balance against a four-man mafia, rather than to enhance them. I don't know which thread to pursue and that ultimately just pisses me off because I had such a commanding voice throughout this game and not a whole lot of gold stars to show for it.

I tentatively plan this: today we lynch Arnold Schwarzenegger. Bruce Willis Jailkeeps Uma Thurman or Vin Diesel. If there is no nightkill, we lynch that person. If they aren't scum, we lynch the other. Let me run the numbers on this.

There's a slight flaw in your plan, what if tonight while Bruce roleblocks me/Vin, Bruce is killed? That was the flaw in my plan as well :lol:

And if you say, "I'll be protect either me or him so it'll be WIFOM for the mob" that makes us not sure on if the roleblock truly stopped the night kill. Too many variables to make direct conclusions,

If Bruce is killed, then clearly he wasn't roleblocking the killer. I don't think we'll run into that issue though.

Sorry, I'm here now. First things first, it's not always good to role-claim. It's better if I don't role-claim. Seriously.
If I roleclaim it will not be good for the town tomorrow, in fact it'll be like there's no tomorrow, no future, at all.

Secondly, I know you people won't like me for saying this because you're so sure of your assumptions, but why exactly do we trust Bruce? Because Sam didn't die day one? Everything about Willis screams scum, but we should trust him based on a series of assumptions and coincidences and ignore the rest?

But what if Sam wasn't the target? THERE WAS A BULLETPROOF TOWNIE in play at that time. And there was also a Nexus. So two potential other targets right there that could have led to the same result.

That leaves the curious case of jason statham, but that's easily fixed. Willis is already claiming a weird (and powerful) role. So why not a weird and powerful mafia role like a Dirty Warden? The warden has a one-off ability to keep one of his fellow mafia from being lynched. Once that's activated, he can't protect anyone anymore, and if the person he protects gets lynched a second time, then he's rendered useless. Notice after Statham died, Willis completely disappeared FOR DAYS. No power, no voting, no contributing, after being a power player early. Also, good lies are usually built on little bits of truth. Willis's super-jailkeep would be the natural progression from a dirty warden.

I don't know if this is true. I'm not even really presenting it to you as true. I was studying Willis for days because he seemed shady despite all of your assurances otherwise, but part of it was predicated on his voting record and the farfetched theory that Johnson wasn't actually scum and was a death miller, and I don't think that really holds up.

Jackson's entire career is built on an assumption (that he was a psychiatrist). I don't think Sam's guilty, but I don't understand how everyone feels so comfortable just letting the power players coast.

Well, Arnold, I agree to a point. Letting him coast is one thing, however, but I think people doing as he says because they think he is confirmed town is quite another. Just because they're town doesn't mean they know what they're doing!

It's an interesting theory about Bruce but I think Willis is town. That role is way too powerful to be a mafia. If it was just a jailkeeper I could possibly believe it, but the ability to affect a lynch is something the mafia should never have. That wasn't even some Governor level stuff, that was god-tier obliteration.

Well he's not even doing anything the past 3 days. I don't know what his game is if he's a good guy. Sit back and play his power, not saying anything so the mafia doesn't catch on to who he's protecting? I guess I can see it. I don't know what all this game can be, but man the nexus seems like a crazy ridiculous role, any game that it shows up it would seem all bets are off. Two mafia dead at night? I would think the mafia would have something other than a role-blocker and whatever Statham was to compete with that craziness. But I dunno, maybe the mafia just sucked this game lol.

I said before, I don't know why Ford is suspicious. He's been kind of absent, but I can't hold that against anyone. If Willis can disappear for three days and nobody gives a smurf, then I can't hold 18 hours, or whatever, against someone.

Bruce's role is accurate. If you want to confirm it I'd rather have us lynch me to prove it. Not only did he stop my kill on Sam day 1, but he stopped the lynch. Everything about his role has been confirmed. However since he shouldn't be in question I rather we move on to more people than lynch me to prove his claim.

There would not be two roleblockers on the mafia. That just doesn't fly. Bruce Willis is town aligned. Next.

In order to trust Willis's crazy role, I have to trust Uma's claim to be a one-off day vigilante AND Sam Jackson's pseudo-claim that he's a doctor but didn't use his power day 1. Also note, that all of these things came out AFTER THE FACT.

One of you experienced peoples mentioned to the newbs to not trust anyone, ANYONE, and yet here you're telling me just to trust this house of cards, because, well just because.

I don't get it. I really really don't get it.

As far as I see it, Bruce, Sam, and my claims are too tangled for us to be lying this point, because too many mafia are dead - there isn't enough room for multiple of us to be lying. Again, killing me could confirm it, but it shouldn't be necessary. There's no trust, merely restricting conditions. Why wasn't Statham lynched Day 2 if Bruce is lying? If Bruce AND Sam are lying why haven't there been many kills? For me to come out and say "I TRUST BRUCE BECAUSE X" wouldn't make a whole lot of sense if I was mafia - I'd be putting my own head on the chopping block to confirm him. There's no "trust" here, just logic as far as I see it.

Here's to hoping I'm not completely wrong about that when the game ends, but as town I need to confirm some roles to myself to be able to focus on the most scummy targets.

You experienced players just keep telling me "Willis is clean, move one" Am I really just supposed to let everyone else do my thinking for me. And the thing is you're not even thinking for me, you're just telling me not to think at all. Obviously you can't be all scum trying to trick me, so there's something you all see that I don't. I guess part of it was that I forgot that Uma targeted Sam too.

I'm not newbie claiming, I'm trying to not play this game in the dark. It's actually the opposite. I'm trying to not just float by and do my own thinking. I thought I legitimately saw a way that the original claims were flawed. If I had been right, it absolutely would have been a good idea for me to throw it into question. I was wrong. It doesn't mean I'm trying to undermine you guys. I'm trying to get past the newbie thing, and that meant sticking my neck out and trying something crazy.

Notice too, that I didn't present all of this while my head was on the block. Actually, at that point I had no votes for myself, attention had shifted to Ford. In fact he was/is just two votes away from being lynched. If I was mafia, would I have brought so much attention back on myself?

I don't think Ford's mafia (not anything particular, just don't see evidence in his posts, again, just my gut), and I thought this might be a good time to bring up something that's been bugging me for days. I'm not pushing the point, I see what you're saying about the three of you being an impenetrable fortress of confirmation. If basically everybody knows it to be true, I guess it was pretty arrogant of me to try to say otherwise, but I can't do anything purposeful for us with my role, I'm trying to do so with my brain.

I think it's coming out that way, because the first couple days of the game, Sam Jackson, Weaver, and other players were constantly saying, "oh you rookies, you're so stupid, we're so smart just listen to us and shut up"

I think my defensiveness as a newb is a natural reaction to that nonsense, not to mention the flippant way Uma and Jackson dismissed my thoughts, today. I don't want to be a bitch about it, though, so we can move on.
