Well he's been known to move at light speed. xP
Apparently there's a torrent of the soundtrack floating around out there. I downloaded it. :P It's pretty fantastic. They used Molgera's theme from Wind Waker. <3 That's my favourite boss music in the Zelda series. Doesn't sound like they remixed it, though.
EDIT: I almost died of awesome when I heard this!
I've been listening to most of the sound-track through Youtube. The user "Deoxysprime" seems to have the most extensive, and well archived, collection.
Nice see Golden Sun represented both with music and an AT.
Now maybe it can be represented with Golden Sun 3. >_>
I like the Song of storms music.
The remix of the brawl theme they use on the final destination is pretty cool too.
I'm uploading a complete (as far as I know) list of the sound track. I've been listening to it all day. :P
Are you kidding me over 300 hundred songs jesus!!
I'm liking the Mario Circuit and Port City Music.
They should've brought back the original Multi Man Melee 2 Music though. (aka the Event Match 51 Music) That was my most favourite Melee song. :(
The Tetris Songs are easily the best ones, though. No denying that.
The Tetris songs are so awesome. :P Do they count as 3rd party guest songs? xP
Im also a pretty big fan of the fire emblem songs. they did a nice job capturing the original flare of those songs. Especialy the main theme.
My guess is Nintendo is just using the Tetris Music without permission.
They can safely do this due to the fact that since no one knows who owns it anymore, they aren't sure if they have the right to sue Nintendo or not.
I'm pretty sure the songs seen in Tetris didn't even originate in the Tetris games. I've read rumors that they're folk songs, but I've seen nothing concrete on songs A and B.
Edit: In unrelated news, this song is pretty awesome.
Oh god its so nice to hear that song again. Kirby air ride kicked so much ass.
This song is excellent.
YouTube - Butter Building - Super Smash Bros. Brawl
^^^ Yes. I like that one a lot. xP
Practically all of the remixes that they put in are really awesome. :D
One of my personal favorites. I love this song!!!
YouTube - Shadow Dragon Medley - Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Samus's Smash Missiles look like Super Missiles now. I noticed it in the startup vid, but it's nice to get official confirmation.
This song is one of my absolute favorites from OoT. No remix, but it doesn't need it.
Yeah but its really nice to see all these songs its like they're paying tribute to nintendos extensive history.
I have yet to hear a song from this game that isnt fantastic. The music and the stages are definatly the best parts about brawl and i look forward to the experiance.
Wish i could say the same about the characters...:( poor poor krystal
After listening to the Song of Storms, I'm totally pulling for the Windmill Man to be an AT.
Smash Bros Brawl for 9.99? Sign me up. Scroll down a bit, you see the part where you can trade in 2 of the listed games to be able to purchase Brawl for $10.
I actually have a friend who's going to the US specifically to get multiple copies of the game (and visit family and stuff). I have 15 of those games, but the only one I'm eager to get rid of is Rayman. I have access to a few of the others that I might be able to buy real cheap to be able to trade off...it'd be worth it to only pay $10 for Smash (when it would normally cost at least $70 here).Quote:
Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree, Brunswick Pro Bowling, Carnival Games, Cooking Mama: Cook Off, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors, Excite Truck, FIFA Soccer 08, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Heatseeker, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Madden NFL 08, Mario and Sonic: Olympic Games, Mario Party 8, Mario Strikers Charged, Medal of Honor Heroes 2, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, MLB Power Pros, My Sims, Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution, NBA Live 08, Need for Speed: Pro Street, NiGHTS, No More Heroes, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Rayman Raving Rabbids 2, Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, Scarface, The Simpsons Game, Sims 2: Castaway, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Thrillville, Tiger Woods 2008, Tony Hawk's Proving Ground, Wario Ware: Smooth Moves, and WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008
N-joy, and don't buy all the copies before I can get one.
Okay, that Song of Storms is Highly addictive.
Lol, I find it funny the New Dragon Quest game is on that list. It like just came out last week.
I might've been interested in that, except I already have 40 bucks down on the game reserved, because I had a 40 dollar gift card from a friend for christmas. AKA, it's only costing me 10 bucks anyways! Yay!

Sakurai loves irony
YouTube - Winning Road~Roy's Hope - Super Smash Bros. Brawl
That makes Brawl epic win.
Yeah almost makes me miss Roy...
Oh and pikachu and samus moves on the dojo as well as the hands.
Yeah. It's quite disappointing that they prioritized Snake and Sonic over Mewtwo and Roy especially considering the fact that they're actually Nintendo. It's understandable that they took out Pichu, (who I still wanted in) Dr. Mario, and Young Link though seeing as how they're very similar to Pikachu, Mario, and Link in terms of fighting style and their character. I'm also very suprised that King K. Rool wasn't playable especially considering how big of a role he plays in the Donkey Kong series and how much people wanted him in. I guess there's nothing that can be done to change that except hope that Sakurai does a better job with the next Smash Bros. game if it comes out.
Well to be frank Roy was only in melee for marketing reasons (to advertise fire emblem 6 to japan) Also a fun fact: due to fire emblem only being in japan at the time Marth and Roy were going to be japanese only characters. That would have sucked.
I've heard that Sonic had been added after the rest due to requests, and the rest of the roster had been completed before then. That's according to someone from Smashboards whom had attended GDC. If what they say is true, then it's silly to say Nintendo prioritized the two 3rd Parties over those specific characters. I think the cut characters were cut for reasons of absolute suckage and lack of popularity rather than to make way for these new, 3rd party characters.
whats even wierder is that in numerous reviews sonic team said sonic will not be in brawl. I guess they were just messin wih us.
Next Smash I'm totally pulling for the following to be added.
King K. Rool
Travis Touchdown
Dekar (Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinestrals)
The Prince (Katamari Games)
Im going to be honest with everyone here. I dont think there will be another smash brothers after Brawl.
Why's that? Sakurai may have stated that he plans for this to be his last game, but I'm sure all directors say that when they feel the winds of a series being milked. :D
He said he was making it "as though it would be the last one". Not that he was making it "to be the last one". There is quite a difference.
No pepole ask him all the time if he wants to continue making the games. He says at the moment he doesnt really want to but dont be suprised if he does.
It doesnt matter to me either way. Threes a good number to stop if you ask me and brawl seems like it will keep me plenty busy for years to come. Even if krystal isnt in it... *runs away with arms flailing*
I guess it's understandable if it's the last one. I doubt Sakurai will be able to handle being in charge of making another Smash Bros. game considering how much effort he put into making this one.
I wonder, are we better off having Brawl be the last Smash game or having someone else besides Sakurai make the next Smash game?
The only drawback to having another smash game would be the rabid fanbase requesting third party characters again
A Clear Percentage explanation on Subspace Emissary is up. Remember, to get 100% in one playthrough, don't skip any cutscenes, and be sure to give the Awesome Sphere to the Youth League... :shifty:
Sorry, I just couldn't resist. In all seriousness though, Subspace Emissary looks wonderful, and they keep adding more and more to it.
I'm hoping that getting 100% won't be that hard. I can already see myself getting frustrated at Orange Cubes for being hidden so well. I guess that's half the fun though.
As long as I can tell which areas have stuff I missed, I look forward to it. :P
I just found out in this thread what's with the All Star Mode order. Quite neat if you ask me. :D
Wow that is pretty interesting. As for the clear % thing that was a genious move for sakurai now people cant spam the web saying stuff like "OMG Theres A Hidden stage that lets you unlock naruto in BRAwl!!!!"
Man Lucario looks savage.
So Lucario uses K-groove. Cool.
Hmm... I really want to see how Lucario performs in Sudden Death matches.
Lucario will be top tier. :P
I'm so using Lucario. My friends will hate me even more. In melee they use to team up on me to try and win, and even win I was in high percentages like 120%+ I would be killing them. With Lucario, it will just make it all the sweeter... to top it off, he looks like a Jackal

It's really nice to see a high quality picture of Lucario. :D I guess that's one thing that the Dojo does that other sites will never be able to copy. They made him look as cool as Marth and Falco. I'm glad they also explained his Force Palm move (although I still don't completely get what it does). I'll really looking forward to trying him out.
Lucario is cool and all but I would perfer Mewtwo over him any day.
I wonder what his alternate costumes would be. He doesn't seem the type to wear bows. Maybe we'll get his shiny color scheme for an alternate outfit.
The ansewer lies in this video around 3:03 I belive: YouTube - Super Smash Brothers Brawl Alternate Colors
It's really hard to tell with MLG people.
On a more positive note, here's some amusing GIFs I found on Brawl Central.
Keep in mind this one somewhat spoils SSE.

That Dee Dee Dee one is made of WIN. :p
It sure is. :D
If I remember correctly Pit's hammer animation is also different. It basically goes really choppy like it does in Kid Icarus. I don't know about other characters though.
You sir are the man.
Lucario is definatly one of the coolest new additions. I still dispise how he replaced mewtwo but there is still no denying hes a pretty groovy character. His down b is like crrrazzy cool.
But of course he'll never be no krystal....*sighs and sheds some tears*
Anyhoot 10 more days till american release *waves little flag* Yay'z :p
If Lucario can get knocked off as easy as MEwtwo, then I hardly doubt that damage gain is going to count for that much.
New stage with Dialga and Palkia. I hope those weird effects don't get annoying. xP
If anything I'd find them more interesting and amusing than annoying.
Personally I think Spear Pillar is one of the coolest stages seeing as how it's got two totally different looking floors, an awesome night sky background, 4th generation Pokemon making an appearance, and a lot of hazards that're enough to make MLG players scream like girls at how much they're being messed around with. Uh, no offense girls.
At first I thought for sure 4th Generation Pokemon wouldn't be making an appearance in Brawl because the next generation of Pokemon always seem to be released after a Smash Bros. Game. I'm glad that wasn't the case for Brawl. :D
Yep one of the best things about Brawl is how it screws over the MLG who tryed to ruin melee.
How did MLG ruin Melee? By being competitive, or did they run into your house and snap your disc in half?
They ran into my house and snaped my disc. But no seriously I wouldnt say they ruined it (my words may have been a little harsh) but they kept on making up ridculous rules like: You can only play on final destination, tier lists, and repetitve wave dashing :mad2: , I think that really ruins the fun of melee. But thats just my view of it.
Well, you have to admit it gets annoying when they say Fox, Falco, and Sheik are the only good characters and the rest of them are trash. Also, by cutting out certain stages they're totally ignoring the fact that some of those characters have disadvantages on them while the "trash characters" do really well on those levels. While Kirby and Mewtwo can handle levels like Brinstar Depths, Fox and Falco have problems not getting killed in them and they basically ignore the advantages that the "bad characters" have.
I suppose I really haven't seen anything MLG does specifically, so I guess I'm not one to talk. However, cutting certain stages in competitive play normally seems to be something that's done because a specific character has some kind of massive advantage on that stage. For example, Hyrule Temple and Yoshi's Island aren't allowed due to certain tactics a Fox user could use to win the match easily. If it's a competitive thing, then rules like that are things I can understand. In casual play, however, I don't like it when people regulate what I do. My brother seems to like reminding me of tiers in Soul Calibur 2 whenever we play just to annoy me. I then go on to beat him with Yun. :3 Yayz.
Edit: Oh, and Brinstar Depths isn't banned due to un-fairness. It's just banned because it sucks and no one likes it. :D
Edit 2: Ewwwwwww.
Yeah, when it comes to competitive play there has to be some kind of constant. I really don't play Smash like I play a Virtua Fighter or something, in fact I just barely consider Smash Bros to be a 'fighting game'. Playing it like a competitive fighting game would require all that restrictive stuff, and it really sucks a lot of the fun out of it since the game really isn't balanced properly like that. You do get stuck with a small number of characters who perform so much better than everyone else in a balanced situation. So while it could be fun with those few...in this kind of game that isn't all that deep, sticking to a few characters in a restricted situation would get boring for most.
The fun thing about Smash is that with all the crazy stuff going on, even characters that would suck in a 'normal' fighting game situation have a chance of doing pretty decently.
10 days!
Final Destination is the most boring stage in the game. xP Honestly. The only reason it exists is because fighting Master Hand would be awkward anywhere else.
I see fun in the game, even with the tourney restrictions set in. It's different from other fighting games, but it still has its own level of depth.
Edit for slowness: Final Destination is only boring if both you, and your opponent, are boring to one another. :3
It's better than the Engrish from the last game. "Meeshyon compuuretu"
The fox and falco voices are just fine its the pit/meta knight voices I dont like, they sound really corny and overdone.
Pit I can agree with, but Metaknight sounds fine to me. I'll just ignore his Darth Vader-ness while a play.
I dont have anything against a darth vader sounding chracter but it just sounds really overdone to me.
Yeah. I don't like Meta Knight's voice either. I preferred his anime voice since it sounded much more unique.
I HATE Ike's voice. I'm sorry but, it doesn't sound like the voice actor from the games, or even manly enough to be Ike. I mean in the Wii Fire Emblem they make him super buff with huge muscles and everything, you'd think he'd sound more manly or tough
Fox and falco seem fine, Pit and metaknight I can deal with too, though they do seem a bit off
THE JACKEL
I just hope marth has a better voice.
I heard Marth's voice actor is still Japanese and hasn't changed at all from the Japanese Version of Brawl. :D
God I hope so...
If you can't play with items on the wackiest stages out there, you can't play Smash Bros. Tournaments should be held on Random stages, with Random items. It's the only way to truly gauge people's skills at the game. Occasionally a character may get an advantage in cerain situations, but they can also wind up in situations which leave them at a massive disadvantage. Playing Final Destination (or even Battleground, for that matter) with no items isn't playing Smash Bros.
Uhh isnt that the polar opposite of what skill is? How is utter randomness "the only true way" to gauge somones skill? Anyone can do good or bad in a random scenario. There is no skill at all. With that said i think alot of pepole fail to realize that the competitive rules for melee have been around for a loong time. lol its no like theres two guys that are like "OMG FOX CAN SHINE! WE MAKE THE RULEZ AND EVERYONE ELSE IS GONNA SUCK AND NOONE IN THE WORLD HAS A SAY MUAHAHA". The truth is when you take a game seriously you have its reasonable to set some guidelines. The reason why these rules have been around for so long is because they work with the competitive atmosphere of the game. I dont get why pepole whine about rules when they hardly EVER compete in the first place. If competive gaming isnt your thing then just play the game like sakuri meant it to be played. Its dumb how pepole in the competitive scene are stereotyped as monsters who think wavedashing is the only way to win and going fox and falco is superior to any other option viable in the tournament scene. Look up videos. Have any of you ever heard of "Pound"? Its one if not the biggest tourney here in the U.S. A player named Mango won this year. Guess who he used? Jigglypuff :D See? Dreams can come true!
Another thing is whats with this "it isnt fun" nonsense to play competitivly? Do you think pros and such play the game because they force themselves to like some sadistic torture? There having fun too! Competitive play is fun as well wether any of you choose to admit it or not. In that regard what is so "unfun" about competitive play anyways? Oh right the "rules"...the "limitations". Well as i said if you dont like them dont compete but realize they really arent that outlandish as most of you make them out to be. For one stock matches are timed. This isnt a bad thing because this keeps the tournament running at a fair pace for everyone. Because matches are timed (8 minutes is certainly reasonable...though times do vary) certain stages are banned for the sake of fairness. Now granted i dont agree with alot of stage bannings but different tourneys have different rules. Theres only about 5 actual stages that are typically ALWAYS banned (brinstar being a top canidate because that stage sucks...for EVERYONE but more importantly low tiers which is soo not cool). And fights consists of sets which are typically best out of 3. You lose one match the loser gets to counter pick a stage of his choosing. So how is that not fair? FD sucks but most tourneys dont allow the same stage used in a set where the player won so that isnt a big deal either (though i like the stage it sucks playing an decent falcos there...).
Also there are diffrent types of tourneys. Theres "Crews", low tiers only (my favorite :D ), teams (tons of fun to watch) and the list goes on. My point is simply quit gripping about the competitive scene. If you dont like it thats perfectly fine but quit bashing the pepole who do because your no diffrent then the jerks you claim exist in regard to the competitive smash community. If the rules upset you so much the hold your own tourney, make your own site, and make your own rules (or heck dont have rules at all).
Oh and Spear pillar looks awwwsome. :greenie:
Wowzers wall of text is an understatment! Lets uhh try fixing that a bit...
wall of text... hurts eyes
I did manage to read it though. It's fine that there is competitive play with rules, I just think that everyone here agrees it detracts from the game. It's not the same game without the stages and the items.
THE JACKEL
I like Brinstar. :(
My point, Monol, is that those random items and stages that try to kill you are what define Smash Bros. If you want a duel on a flat stage between two characters with very fixed movesets, you might as well be playing Mortal Kombat. You're not playing Smash Bros. Wacky, unpredictable play, maneuvering around the platforms, working the items into your battle strategies, those have all been central to the Smash Bros. gameplay. If you can't play with those things, you're missing out on most of the game. How can you claim to have be a skilled player of Smash Bros. if you can't handle 60% of its gameplay?
But thats just it. That 60 percent ISNT skill. All that crazyness and randomness takes away from that aspect. As long as items are on and certain stages are available ANYONE can win. But that isnt fair to the kids that practice combos and edgeguard techniques when all some noob has to do is get a parasol that appeared infront of him and recover from it while a random bomb falls from the sky and lands on the more skilled person. It isnt fair that a new kid playing donkey kong can pick up a smash veteran on gnW's level (the name escapes me at the moment) and just simply cargo throw him off the side. It isnt fair that a kid who worked his butt off on a cheery picking shiek has the misfortune of being on the wrong side of the stage when a health container falls and heals the shiek while at the same time the arena tilts because kraid didnt take his happy pills in the morning and now the veteran is dead.
And super smash bros key gameplay mechanic that seperates it from mortal kombat or soul calibour isnt its items and arenas. Its the fact that instead when your hit your damage doesnt go down it goes up. Itst he fact that you dont die by a getting your heart stabbed you die by getting kicked off the planet :p .
You could definatly argue that just dealing with the crazyness is part of the skill that the game was intended for but i dont think that should apply in duels. Duels should be skill vs skill. Thats just fighting game edicate. Now if we were dealing in a free for all thats completely different. I say do whatever you want in that case. In fact i would strongly encourage "Free for all" tourneys. Spicing things up a bit lolz. Well sorry for another long winded rant . I see everyones point about the competitive thing but still...meh
I think people need to find a different game to play competitively. Next thing you know, they'll be holding Mario Party tournaments. Seriously, when has any Nintendo game not been made to be a great single player adventure, or a fun, kick back and play with your friends game. It's really not meant to be a hardcore fighting game the likes of Soul Calibur and Mortal Kombat and etc. I play with friends to have fun. Granted they don't like always losing, but yet they always still want to play.
THE JACKEL
Um, not fair?
You realize that there are many ways to effectively use Items.
What about the guy who has spent so much time practicing using Items and figuring out how to use them effectively with different characters?
Strip Items, and what does that say to all of their practice?
I'm not saying one way of playing is superior, but playing with Items is hardly 60% of crap that doesn't use skill.
I play with items, and against some friends I still beat them all the time.
It's not random, it's because I know what I'm doing.
Same reason I like playing Brinstar depths. It's not luck that gets you victory, it's knowing how to fight on the stage.
another point to add
it seems like they've given more characters ways to reflect items. But then of course there were the items that you couldn't reflect, like the star rod. They make items a central part of the game. I always loved getting the homerun bat. It would scare my friends. The best part was, I'd typically get them to worry so much about getting homerun, I'd throw it at them all the time.
now certain items I like to take off, such as the invincible star, or the hammer, because I think it detracts from the wonderful battle that's going on and just makes people run away.
oh, and I play all stages, and most items, and I still always win. It also made me become good with multiple different characters.
THE JACKEL
Would you stop bragging? It's getting annoying.
naw, just because it annoys you, I'm going to do it some more.
Anyways the point of me saying it was that items doesn't mean people with skill, can't still be good. In fact you can learn to use items better and become even more skilled. But at the same time they can be a great equalizer.
THE JACKEL
No i think melee is the perfect game to play competitivly. No one is forcing you to play the game in tournaments. All fighting games are made to have "fun with your friends" just some approach it diffrently then others. If you wanna play with your buddys go ahead. No ones stopping you.
Item placment is random. Always. You cant pick where the items will spawn. If you could thats an entierly different story. The guy who spent all of his time training with items only trains for when the situation permits. You cant start a match with a home run bat. You have to wait for it to RANDOMLY appear on the stage at any RANDOM location. Its cool to train with items. Heck i do it (star rod being my personal favorite) but still the fact that you dont know where they are going to appear is the issue. Lol i wont argue if you like brinstar. It takes ballz to enjoy that place so i comend you for that :p .
Every item detracts from the "basic" engine of the game. Thats there intention. A characters being able to reflect things? Every character can reflect objects through "power shielding" and it is a pain to do. Reflecting is an advantage given to a character. If certain items eliminate that then whats the point? Then everyones equal which i know sounds awsome to everyone. But what i like about smash bros (heck fighting games in general) is the uniqness each character brings. I dont care that mewtwo is lower on the tier list than fox, mewtwos still has the highest priortized attack in the game. I like the challenge in a duel to have to beat a fox with mewtwo. It forces you think outside of the box and attempt to make strategies of your own. Ahh but whatever im ranting again lol. Im done...for now ;) muhahaha
Yes, the Items appear randomly. But why the hell would you train with just one kind of item?
I mean hell, thats just stupid. I can use basically any Item, and you can use different items differently with different characters.
Say DK. Using guns he can now fight at a distance, and try to lure an opponent to move in closer to you or do some damage without putting as much threat on yourself as you normally could.
However take a fast moving character like Shiek. She gets a ranged attack that doesn't take time to charge with a laser gun. She can now keep her distance and still pile on some damage safely.
Another thing for DK to use if he gets no gun is Bumpers and Bombs. Some well placed items like that can limit your opponents movements, thus making it easier for DK to land some of his harder hits.
Shiek, however, wouldn't want to do that with Bumbers and Bombs. She would be better suited for luring enemies into them, by either drawing or chasing them into them.
that's the exact point of the tournament rules though. To make everyone start and fight on equal grounds. If anyone can reflect items, then it's equal grounds. If certain items can't be reflected, it's equal grounds. So why aren't there items?
And no, lots of other fighting games are not casual like smash bros. You can't tell me the way fighting games are designed typically, that they're casual. There's nothing more to most of them than just fighting. Smash bros is different in that regard. There's crazy stages, crazy items, and adventure modes. Now adventure is even co-op. It is not a hardcore fighting game.
maybe the item spawn is random, but it adds a completely new level to the gameplay. Everyone runs to get a pokeball, and I'm sure assist trophies are included in that now too. You fight to get it, you play accordingly. Taking stuff like that out, makes it a new game entirely. My friends and I enjoy final destination sometimes to ease the stage worries... but items are never off, if anything, they spawn more.
THE JACKEL
I mostly agree with Monol.
First of all, people do NOT only play on FD in competitive play. Stage banning varies a lot, but in the tournaments I've been to, stages like Corneria (you can get randomly hit by lasers from the attacking space ships on that stage) and even Poke Float have been allowed. And yes, the tournament that allowed Poke Float was highly competitive (even CJ, Japan's best smash player, was there). At most 20% of the matches I've played at tournaments have been on FD, and my personal favourite stage to play competitively is Dreamland 64.
Secondly... unpredictable play and maneuvering around the platforms are actually top priorities in competitive play.
And I doubt items and a select few stages alone are 60% of the gameplay.
I know Monol beat me to it, but... smash is a great game to play competitively. Simply because, while you do play it seriously, it's still lots of fun. Even at an competitive level, I find this game much more appealing than games like Soul Calibur and Mortal Kombat.
Smash doesn't lose all the fun just because you play without items and do your best to win.
Oh, and I don't remember who said it, and can't be bothered to go back and check, but it's not like you're only allowed to play Fox, Falco and Sheik or whatever in competitive play.
I'm personally a Ganondorf player in melee. And even though he's far from one of the best characters in the game, I have beaten many good players who played top-tier characters with him. The only character I really hate going up against is Sheik.
Even though the first character that I could play with competitively actually was Sheik, I still ended up using Ganondorf as my main for 3 reasons:
1) I think he's the most fun character to play.
2) It feels better to play a character that isn't top-tier.
3) I simply discovered that I actually was better with him than Sheik when I played at my first tournament. One match, I even beat a Sheik player with him that I had lost to miserably earlier in a Sheik-ditto.
And I'm certainly not the only one who doesn't play top-tiers at tournaments. The Germ, for example, is one heck of a good Link player who can wipe the floor with good Fox and Sheik players.
...I guess I've made my point clear, so let's move on.
Now, I have to agree with NeoCracker regarding stages. While items certainly involve just as much randomness as skill, stages are different. Even though the stage banning is there for a reason, all stages are still more about knowing how the stage works rather than randomness. On Poke Float and Rainbow Ride, the new pokemons and platforms doesn't appear randomly. They always appear at the same places and they always have the same functions. Even in Brinstar, which rotates randomly, there is always a way to take advantage of the situation. And if you know the stage well enough, you know when you "probably should move to a safer location" etc.
...So no matter which stage you play, skill still matters far more than anything else.
I can't say the same about items though, since certain items are more random than others. For example... taking advantage of a Mr.Saturn is pure skill. But if a heart, hammer or invincibility star randomly appears right where you're standing, there's no skill involved when you take advantage of that it. And if a bomb just happened to appear right infront of you just as you do a forward smash, then that's just bad luck.
...but if you play Mr. Saturns only, then it's all about skill! :greenie:
Finally, competitive smash is fun. It's fun to compete, it's fun to be good at a game, and it's fun to try to get better. I can see what some of you mean when you say that stage banning and restrictions takes away all the fun (even though I personally don't agree with that), but some of you almost sound like playing smash competitively is a mortal sin (ok, maybe that's overexaggerating a bit, but you get the point). I mean... if people even play Pokemon competitively, then why not smash?
I think before anyone says that another person's style of play detracts from the game, they should consider that the other person is free to play however they like, and may be how they prefer to play the game. In that sense, doing it the way you saw as the better way to play, would detract from the game to them. See what I'm saying here? It's a perspective thing. But, clearly, in a Tournament, you're going to have players that look at it from the way that has the least random values.
Now then, with that, can we stop justifying ourselves for things so irrelevant to each-other's lives such as how we play a video game? :monster:
Edit for grammar. And another for bad sentence structure.
Relax kentarou were simply defending our views. Noones out right bashing any other persons viewpoints. Oh and if theres any character that is remotely cheap its sheik. Grr i hate shiek lol As a zelda main even bad shieks are a threat >_<.
I actually kicked but with Zelda, couldn't play shiek worth crap though. :P
And I will concede sometimes Items do give a person a completely random advantage or disadvantage, but it's actually not that often it happens.
Though I still don't think they should be banned for tournaments, it doesn't really bother me they are.
They games still fun to play like that.
I actually main as Zelda and Peach. I stay at a distance and either use din's fire or turnips to raise my opponents damage, then smash them away. With Peach, your always playing with items though. Peaches down smash is a bit too powerful though.
And I think the Ice climbers are cheap. While Nana is still an idiot most of the time, they are strong if someone knows what they are doing.
Also, go play as bowser and use his down throw. Bowser Love!:p
Well ill definatly admit that ANY stage should be chosen for counter picking at least. I almost forgot about how impossibly cruel ice climbers can be IF there both together. Wobbling is waaay to unfair (for those not familiar with the technique it involves popo or the dominate iceclimber if you switch costumes grabs then jabs the opponet then nana proceeds to in rythme tilt A or down A tilt. This causes the opponet to be trapped until the ice climber stops jabbing creating infinite damage) in brawl theres a new type of wobbling but it at least looks funny. Heck alot of the glitches in brawl do :p
I have five bucks that says the first Smash Bros. shows up on the Virtual Console tomorrow. I already bought a Wii Points card for it. :P
Just six more days until the great brawl begins.
I was WRONG! This has never happened before! Super Turrican? What the bloody smurf?
What the hell is Super Turrican?
They're either talking about All Star Mode or Boss All Star Mode in today's update.
...no wait, you can't continue in Boss All Star Mode. Never mind.
But apparently you can do Co-op Two Player in all "Solo" Modes except for Classic. :D :D :D :D :D
That's what I heard on Brawl Central anyways. :rolleyes2
Why not Classic? I think that'd be the mode I'd most want co-op 2P mode. xP
Classic would be nice, but at least everything else is co-op, right?
Yeah, I suppose. xP Certainly doesn't run the game.
Plus, Adventure Mode Co-Op is pretty epic. Actually, the Adventure Mode is reminding me of Kirby Super Star in a lot of aspects as well. Especially how Player 2 gets back to Player 1 if they are moved off of the stage.
I'm pretty sure the Home-Run Contest has online play. Can the same be said for Break the Targets?
The entire game of Smash Bros is based on Kirby Superstar. And, yeah, Adventure Mode now looks like it too. Awesome, huh?
BTW, has anyone seen the Giant Jigglypuff glitch? Use Jigglypuff's Final Smash in the gap of the Bridge of Eldin right when the new bridge is being teleported in, and you will keep Giant Jigglypuff. There's some videos of them, but I can't find them right now (on a school PC).
Yeah. I was actually really looking forward to the idea of Co-op Classic Mode. At least All Star Mode and Boss All Star Mode were confirmed to be Two Player on the Brawl Central Forums.
I've heard about it. It doesn't actually change her weight though. It's still something that's worth trying out.
Awesome. It's nice to hear Marth's, Pit's, and Meta Knight's.
I wonder what he says about the Ice Climbers and Lucario though...

Man I keep reading reviews of the game and I want it real bad. Why is it not Saturday? I hate time and its stupid slowness.
About that Glitches video, Monol, with Toon Link and his D-Air... I don't think that's really a glitch. His D-Air, as we've seen, adds a downward force to his movement. When you add the upwards force of the attack, naturally, it will be reduced, until the final number is 0. The result can't be a negative, because that would defeat the purpose of having his attack have such little reliance on the character's momentum.
Nice observation Kentarou. I posted it simply because I thought it looked neat :p But perhaps it really isnt quite a "glitch" per say...
And brawl can take its time coming out. I still need to practice (and by practice i mean watch videos!) for that gamespot tourney. I just had my last melee tournament recently on sunday with some of PA's finest and im almost ready to see what brawl has to offer. I just dont know who to use so improbably just gonna random it (seeing how you can do that now which is awsome!) or maybe yoshi. Yeah yoshi sounds pretty good actually :D ...anyone else entering that tournament thingy?
I am, of course.
Is this thread gonna be killed when the game comes out?
I kinda want it to just be pinned and go on and on forever.
We should just make an entire forum section for this thread. "Smash Bros. Brawl Discussion" forum. Then, in it, there's this.
Would be cool...
Maybe we could use it for setting up internet matches, and trading created stages?
I like that idea actually. I dont know about an ENTIRE section but if it becomes even half as popular as melee then im sure that doesnt sound unresonable.
But i say keep the thread alive. No sense in killing it now :p

If you can watch that and say to yourself "I dont want brawl" i will personaly pay you 1000 invisa dollars. Oh and a pat on the back.
I dunno for sure, but Nintendo's other online games allow people from different regions to play together. My Palkia is from Japan. :P
Well, if it works for other Wii games, I see no reason it shouldn't work for Brawl. Or, I hope so at least. :greenie:
Oh, and it kinda amuses me that they took away L-Cancelling and the like to make the game "more fair", yet they overlooked something like the IC-glitch and the Falco laser-glitch.
I really hope these glitches are fixed in a patch or something. Because, though they might be hard to pull off, they are all but fair or fun. And the random "tripping" will be extremely dangerous VS Falco. If you tripp, and the Falco player responds fast enough, all he has to do is spam the B button until you either for fall off an edge (and you'll probably be at +70% or more by then) or reach an ridicolously high % (if you get hit against a wall). Ugh.
I'm glad they've showed all items now. It's nice to know more about the soccer ball and the spike ball. I'm glad they actually stuck in another item from a retro game (Clu Clu Land).
I don't know about having a whole separate forum for Smash or Nintendo but maybe having a stickied thread for Smash would work.
That video is way too awesome. :D
I was just joking about a Smash Forum. :monster:
People are already hacking this game. Here's a hack that gives some characters other characters' movesets.
YouTube - Super Smash Bros. Brawl Moveset Swapping - Part 1
The first couple are kinda dull, but skip ahead to the part where Pikachu gets someone else's move set. I won't spoil it. xD
I found Peach's to be the funniest.
I found toon links to be the most painful :(
Would it be possible to replace character models rather than their move-sets? It seems like that would be more effective than placing move-sets, because if you're only transferring one thing at a time, voice clips and attack effects won't come with the package.
Oh dear... Caramelldansen has reached the eoff gaming boards.
That hack video was pretty cool. That Pikachu one was FREAKY.
R.O.B. was shown on the dojo today.

1) Kentarou has won.
2) Does that toon link one look like Gannon is about to rape him, or is that just me?
If that was the joke, what the hell does "Oops. Wrong Gannon" have to do with it?
I've no idea. :p
That Link and That Ganon(dorf) are from two different Zeldas. My caption skillz are not very good.

Would have been better if you used Ganondorf's Sword Taunt, or one of his very few sword attacks. That would have made it clear. :3
Clear or not thats one of the most creepily romantic pictures ive ever seen in my life.
It depends on how you look at it, Neo. Ganon is just expressing his deep love to Toon Link, and Toon Link is just having a hard time taking it all in.
How many times am I going to feel the urge to GANNON-BAN you?
You know, I think I'll just play the Song of Time so this conversation never happened.
They've finally revealed ROB on the Dojo. Even though they didn't explain his Final Smash... I kind of like how they kept him in his Famicom design even for us English people. I actually own a Famicom. :D
Those pictures are awesome JKTrix. :D
Also, here's a video to celebrate ROB's update.

love that picture, it's funny
Also makes me wonder why the hell a golden sun character couldn't be playable! They could've given him an axe if they didn't want another swordsman or something
also many of the pics seem completely random... and make you wonder what different things/ideas they had.. like this one

So many more months for me.
HAHAHAHAHAH! Eurosuckers.
Poor Europe. :(
Of course, y'know, there is that Freeloader for the Wii. :p
And I thought that Nintendo wouldn't be able to make an update that was as great as yesterday's. They sure proved me wrong.
There's way too many awesome screenshots that they posted. :D

Also Roto, does this look familiar?

I just thought I'd post that screenshot since the guy that posted it has the same name.

On a slightly brighter note the pictures on the dojo are freakin awsome.

WTF!
Bermuda usually gets games a week late... not 2 days EARLY. I am extremely confused.
Yes, that's me.

Please PM me if you add me.
Damn you, Trix! Damn you to hell!
EDIT: How can anyone add you? We don't live in crazy land. xP
Cool beans, JKTrix, cool beans! I'll probably add you as soon as I get the game, after the tourney tomorrow.
Once I get my Wii's online play up, I'll add you, but that'll probably be at least a month.
lol doubt I'll even remember what page your code was on, if we really want to make this a thread with the friend codes, they should be put on the first page or something

Just a few more hours...
I got 11 hours until the tournament. Oh yeah.
I didn't expect you to look like that at all in real life JKTrix. No offense.
I hope you have a lot of fun with it. But uh, don't get too much practice in. We don't want you whooping us that badly on Wi-Fi.
Oh what am I saying? It is Brawl and I'd be playing it like crazy if I was in your shoes so forget what I said. :rolleyes2
Yeah. Apparently there's another Roto on Wi-Fi Brawl (not being sarcastic). I hope there won't be too much confusion with similar names.
I hope nobody has taken the name "STIO" yet. That was my Melee name and I plan to stick with it.
...Man, I hope they have more copies by tomorrow...
First run through on 'Subspace Emissary': 86% clear, 8 hours 13 minutes. Everything on Normal. 32 characters unlocked. I finished it much earlier today, but then I fell asleep :p
It's worth noting that my 'time' before the final, huge stage was less than 6 hours, and my clear rate was around 60%. The last stage is huge. Spoiler for what you do in the last stageIt's structured kind of like Metroid (or perhaps Kirby) where you have to explore multiple areas, and you have to fight not only all the bosses you beat before, but shadow versions of nearly all the player characters. Once you beat it, before the credits, you get the game's theme song played for you with an English translation. About 'shoot the credits'There is 'shoot the credits' after Adventure Mode. Credits just runs a bunch of the video clips from adventure mode with the scrolling names. It's in Classic mode, though.
Stickers are more effective than I thought they'd be. You probably don't really need them for Normal mode, but I imagine they'd be very helpful on harder difficulties.
You can spend hundreds of coins very easily on the Coin Launcher. Luckily, the stickers and trophies are fairly plentiful. If you hold the 'shoot' button for a second before you let it go, the coin will shoot faster and fly over whatever holes pop up on the board.
I've been trying to use the Classic controller, but it's definitely gonna take some getting used-to. I used a GC controller through most of the adventure mode.
If you use one of the control configurations that involve the Wii remote, you do get some noises coming from the remote that you don't get with the GC controller at all. For example (the only one I've heard), when you choose a character, they would say something or make a noise through the remote, while if you're playing with the GC controller they don't say anything at all.
That's it, 'til more people get it.
Before Brawl comes out in North America I'm going to post Masahiro Sakurai's Alcohol Induced Subspace Cutscene that unfortunately didn't make it in Brawl.
Also, for those of you worried about being slaughtered by MLG level players here's a video to help you remember that they too are human and prone to making mistakes.
I almost forgot today was Saturday. Saturday has something special.
I took this pic myself, my first one.

Bah, my Gamestop was closed for today due to bad weather.
Snapshots. Images are saved to an SD card, and the SD card is inserted into a computer, from which they may then be uploaded to an Intertron.
Bah, I'm broke. SSBB will have to wait for a couple of weeks.
