Ok I just beat gilgamesh for the 2nd time and I actually took my time and looked at "the sword of legend" and it is the wormhero blade and the description was: it's jsut an ordinary sword of legend. Is it just me or do you want to just smack him to?

yep. that was just a fakey...
he's got a hobby of collecting fake swords.
but he looks cool with 'em tho'
Wormhero ?
Yeah, please smack Vaan for me.
that sounds appropriate for a fake sword of legend. don't you think ren?
Oh! DUH Ren!
Good catch! :D
hehehehe
i always use 1 syllable calls no matter how weird it may sound :D
mayb you should make all 3 of your people to attack vann even make vann attack himself. then revive him and kill him all over again lol
Sounds like a good idea to me
I did find Vaan to be irritating in very much the same vein as Tidus from FFX, but I was somewhat more tolerant with Vaan because he isn't half as bad as Tidus. He is quite stupid though, I agree.
Tidus was a talented blitz player and gave his life to save Spira (plus stole Yuna's heart). Vaan has no redeeming value, he is just an annoying git
Wouldn't it say that line about an ordinary sword of legend no matter whom you designate as your party leader? I don't understand why that's being pinned on him. I also thought that was yet another reference to a previous title, but maybe I'm wrong about it all. It's been a while and my memory is flaky.
Anyway, I liked Vaan. I don't see how you couldn't, as he rarely said or did anything and wasn't relevant to the plot. Hating him is a waste of emotion.
At least Tidus wasn't tactless and dumb. People in the party could actually talk to him about their problems, while Vaan just blurted out a load of nonsense, even insulting the lovely Fran.
We all know Tidus was a great character if it weren't for his voice actor being too old, and straining his vocal chords to VA Tidus.
Best narration note in Final Fantasy history.
Vaan = Dumb Blonde
I dunno, his parents did die when he was what, 10 or some :skull::skull::skull::skull:? Then his homeland was invaded and his only remaining relative was killed. Gotta feel kinda sorry for him. He's not that bad. :<
i feel sorry for him too but heck, he's a pixelated buffoon... ;p
Not having relatives doesn't give him an excuse to be stupid
Yes it does! He wasn't smacked around enough for it by his family now it is our duty to do so! ;)
What about migelo?
what about 'im?
Yeah, I'll second that.
I didn't find Migelo annoying - he's not around that long in the storyline to give a crap about.
he may be stupid, but personally, i think that he fits his role in the party perfectly, i dont think that any other type of person would work as well as he did.
I liked migelo his slobbery accent was adorable.
I'd agree with that. I think to say that Tidus wasn't tactless or dumb would be another matter entirely, but I'd say he's equally so as Vaan is, if Vaan is at all. The rest of the party relatively looked down upon Vaan and with fairly reclusive people like Fran and Basch, they were never going to confide in him to begin with. Vaan, at least, adapted to situations and generally wasn't a constant irritation. He also managed to avoid going to the 'Macarena Temple.'
I have to admit I was pretty miffed to find out it was just another blonde dumbass leading the way. I would prefer Squall or Cloud or even a Barret-like figure - hell, even a Frog-style figure would be a good change. All the leads these days are getting increasingly dumb, immature, blonde and generally annoying. It's a sad state.
However, most of the other characters were great so I don't have too many qualms.
The thing is, once the game gets going, Vaan barely gets a word in edgewise over the likes of Ashe and Balthier, the former of whom flat-out tells him not to interrupt her at one point. It's very much as if Matsuno and company had just as much contempt for the character type as players do, especially since Square executives forced them to put him and Penelo in the game.
And all that makes him much more bearable than jerks like Tidus, whom you must constantly tolerate for the entirety of their games.
They saw a need for happy-go-lucky teenage characters with whom happy-go-lucky teenage players could identify. Ultimately, the creative team managed to keep them out of the spotlight as best they could, but the game was still significantly changed as a result of the corporate leaders' demands. Basche's tale of tragedy and redemption was originally the main focus of the story, for example.
Matsuno's departure from the project mid-development due to "illness" was probably caused--to some extent, anyway--by the stress of this pressure from above.
Crap, Basche's story would have been so much better as the main one, too. Boo to Square. :(
I didn't know about this. That's why the game is so unfocused. Boo to Square from me too, especially since I'd kick Vaan in the ass every single day (so I would do with Fran, but at least she's a Viera and she's supposed to be stand-offish. Vaan just has no excuses for being an idiot.)
Finally we all agree that basch would be better, that is what I was thinking at first
Unless I could learn to roundhouse kick.
*Plays M.C. Hammer's 'You Can't Touch This'*
Wow...we're changing the subject to Fran?! = O~
*cough* I know many people don't like Tidus...perhaps just for the VA?? But I RLY liked him. True, there were some scenes where he was annoying. But I feel he truely redeemed himself towards the close of the game.
...Vaan on the other hand..... :S
yeh he can be an idiot but he is cool dont you think Vaan looks like Aladin off disney with that waist coat torso combo
