Wow. I thought you guys loved 3rd party characters. If you absolutely adored having Snake and Sonic in Super Smash Bros. Brawl despite not being Nintendo I don't see why you aren't crying alound in mirth and merriment now that Yoda and Darth Vader are in Soul Calibur IV despite not being Namco.
Soul Calibur isn't a mish-mash game. It has a set theme. Smash Bros. doesn't.

They added the Starwars theme to practically everything but in a game like soul caliber?...i wouldnt be surprised if they thought it would be cool to add this in streetfighter 4. I mean... vader can barely move in that respirator imagin him doing kicks. Yoda is prolly the only one who could pull off the moves from starwars but hes in a galaxy far far away =/. I guess Lightsabers, The Force, Death Stars ect. isnt enough.

Apparently it's possible that more characters (Star Wars or otherwise) will come by Downloadable Content.

I like the Soul games, but I think this is a step too far, I have nothing against Star Wars, but I think this abandoning the main system.

I wonder, though, if they'll actually try to explain why the two are now linked. In SC2, each extra character was from a different game/comic, and so it would be harder to explain all their appearances in the same world, and their stories and reasoning for coming to the world weren't really well done, as to be expected. They were extra characters. Now, here, the two extra characters are from the same universe, so there must be something common between the two in their reasoning for coming here, don't you agree? But we're talking about Star Wars here. I don't want Darth Vader to impact the story. :p Since they're Extra Characters, too, I don't think they'll work too hard on their stories.
This is lame for alot of reasons. I have nothing against Yoda and Darth Vader but why on earth would any of you guys want these two in Soul Caliber IV? The story to this game will make me throw up while reading. And neither sound like interesting characters to be in a fighting game.

No one's really said that they do want them in, sans a few. No need to target an entire thread now, Dreddz. Besides, just like with the extra characters of SC2, or the Bonus Characters of SC3, it's not likely that they'll impact the story at all outside the non-canon story mode bound to be included. But if we are to compare it to SC2, then the 3 extra characters only received spotlight for a single mission.
I don't think story-lovers have anything to worry about.

I think this is great. The earlier games have already established that the soul swords are powerful enough that they'll draw warriors from other times and even other worlds.
It's flimsy, but it's more than enough for me:p The sheer amount of epicness offered by this news far outweighs the monumental bitching and whining it's generated on the internet.
And to those who complain about light sabers versus swords... we already know from the movies that light sabers can't cut certain metals at all, or at least not easily. We'll just have to assume that spring steel is one of those metals:D Besides, both the weapons and the people in the Soul games are remarkably durable, resisting the kind of abuse that would instantly destroy their real-world counterpart. So there.
I'm really looking forward to SCIV's character creation, if it's going to have it.
I'm gonna jokingly speculate about other possible crossover characters... hmm.
Captain Picard is a fencer, so they could give him a rapier and let him go nuts.
Final Fantasy characters have been kind of done to death in crossovers lately, so they'd be surplus to requirements but still cool.
Solid Snake and his commando knife... that'd be neat. Especially since he doesn't like swords.
Indiana Jones' whip would make up for the general lack of flail weapons in the games.
And last, but not least... the Black Knight, of Monty Python's Holy Grail fame. Hell yes. Especially if King Arthur was available too. Plenty of great soundbites available from the movie to give them perfect in-game dialogue.
I know none of this is likely to happen, but it's fun to speculate anyway.
The only logical bonus character left to them is the King of Sparta.
Light Sabers not slicing through regular swords (and people) with ease is no harder to believe than Vader fighting Voldo, anyway. ;P My suspension of disbelief can go that far.
I really don't mind these guys as long as they're integrated like the bonus characters from SC II.

I can see how someone might think that. But SC II was great and SC III is pretty good too. (Except it should have been an arcade game first.) The new characters in III were pretty awesome, but they weren't really well implemented gameplay-wise. Being Darth Vader wouldn't fix that.

Yeah, I guess that's why they do it, but in my opinion Soul Calibur actually has some very distinct and memorable characters (e.g. Voldo, Mitsurugi, Taki, Ivy, Cervantes etc.). Also, even though putting Yoda and Darth Vader in the game will surely help it to sell more, I actually think the game would sell really well without them in it too - the Soul Calibur series is undoubtedly a bunch of high quality fighting games..Quote:

When I saw first, I immediately thought of Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi for the PlayStation which was a really fun Star Wars beat 'em up that I played when I was about ten or so. I've no idea if it's actually that good a game, but I remember really enjoying it at the time. And of course, the highlights of that game were playing as Boba Fett and (naturally) Darth Vader.
It doesn't really make any sense, but it'll be bloody fun, I'm sure.
Yoda would be a bitch to fight. Your lows are gonna get predicatable sooner or later...
Yoda will probably lack health, though, so instead of the usual 15 hits, about 7 will finish him off, at least if I was making the game...

Talim is pretty small too, however, I always find a way to dig into her health. So I guess Yoda will falter in one area that makes him a more fair fight.

This gets me thinking many things.
1. Putting Yoda and Vader on the two different consoles seems pointless. People will obviously want to have them fight against each other, but I suppose it'll balance out sales.
2. They look so out of place graphically.
3. It's either going to be ridiculous or inaccurate playing as them. A lightsaber would easily cut through a sword, more specifically a block or a human. One hit kills? No. It'll probably be the inaccurate choice, with people blocking them with knives at worst, and it'll look stupid.
4. I hope they announce some more interesting outsider characters closer to release. Hardly seems to have received a reaction on the scale that Brawl has received with its roster.

Most of the existing Soul Calibur weapons could easily kill a human in a single strike. A Zornhau from Siegfried's longsword would cleave a person in two, if it was physically possible for a Zweihaender that wide to be made and used. People did comment, but DOA is hardly as respected/popular as Soul Calibur is. DOA3 and 4 were only on the Xbox, where there were pretty high chances that if you own an Xbox, you at least tolerated Master Chief. So combining a franchise which isn't super respected with an audience of Master Chief empathizers, there was nothing to complain about.Quote:

Snake, who is a lot more mature than Sonic, Mario, Kirby, et al., really has no place in a game like Brawl. He just doesn't fit. Now, if a mature-rated character who doesn't fit the light-hearted atmosphere of SSBB can be welcomed with open arms, there's no reason why two sword-wielding freaks can't be welcome in a game full of, well, sword-wielding freaks.
Why does the logic that "such-and-such character doesn't belong" work one way but is never allowed to work in the other? That's just illogical. And I'm saying all this as someone who doesn't even give a crud about the Soul Calibur series (give me Street Fighter anyday). :p
It's the hardcore SC fans who have the issue here. Of course casual fans (or 'don't give a crud' folks) wouldn't think it's a big deal, and in fact see it as a huge positive. Perhaps part of the issue that the SC fan(boy)s have is that Soul Calibur is very much a Japanese game. Star Wars (despite its influences) is not Japanese.
People did have issues with Link, Spawn and Heihachi in SC2. They got over it though, mostly thanks to Necrid. SC4 needs a Necrid character, then we won't care about Vader/Yoda.
All of the previous examples of 'cameo characters' that Astronite listed have at least some relevance to their games. Activision, publisher of the Tony Hawk series, also makes Spider-Man and Star-Wars games. I don't think Smash Bros needs to be explained.
But anyway, it's the hardcore SC fans that really have the problem (and they'll likely get over it once the game is out and they ignore the characters they don't like). All the casual folks can carry on.
I'm more than casual, and I don't have a problem with it. If the characters turn out to be a problem, they'll probably get banned from competitions anyway, and if you don't like them, don't use them. Damned fascists :p.
