Take the "LOL SAT" challenge!

So, i strolled into Barnes and Noble today looking for a book that will help me with the SATs. I found "The Laugh Out Loud Guide Ace the SAT* Exam without Boring Yourself to Sleeep!" by Charles Horn, PhD. (This is the guy who made Robot Chicken!) I bought it and thought it would be interesting (and a nice twist) to add a little humor into my studies. I opened up a page and was ROFL at the Barnes and Noble as soon as I read a word problem.

So... I thought it would be fun to challenge you all to an SAT challenge. I will have 1 question from each subject (Writing will be replaced with a common error question) and the first one to answer them all correctly will win!

The questions I am using are coming from the book and I do not own them in any way. All credit goes to Charles Horn, PhD.

Uh oh... I just realized that all three of you were wrong on the algebra question! I gave Momiji a hug accidentally.

Remember, the values in between the lines "|" are absolute values meaning that there are more than one answer.

So, in the equation:
|x - 6| < 3

The solution must be worked twice like this

Either
x - 6 < 3

or,
-(x - 6) < 3


So that was a mistake on my part. Sorry... ^_^;

But did you read any of my examples to show why he and I are right? I went to a lot of trouble to do that (because math is fun and I love it).

If this is the level of knowledge they test on the SAT, I should have taken it.

if p is odd then p+2 must be odd. substitute p+2 into choice E, then simplify and it is proved further.

E) p^4 + p + 1 is odd

Jess' answers were correct except the math question, which is E. Actually E is always odd as long as p is an integer.
