Broseph.
:shifty:
"Kawaii-Baka *^_^*"
you sure it's a mistranslation? it actualy makes perfect sense considering Zells hairstyle resembles a chickens feathers...
Such language! I can't believe you haven't even been issued a warning from a mod!
Actually I like Chicken-Wuss as an insult. It works.
Now you've made me want to play FF8 in japanese :p Oh well, when I get more time maybe :p
Chicken-wuss is pretty literally accurate, actually. There's probably something that would sound more socially accurate to Americans, but you'd have to ask Woolsey about that.
He meant to say "straight-guy." Naturally Zell got pissed.
Yeah. I mean, I don't think there is any completely direct translation for 野郎 (yarou)--the term to which "chicken" is added. "Wuss" is as good a translation as any. You could go with "Chicken-Jerk" or "Chicken-Bastard," too. The reason why these all sound stupid is that they are literal word-for-word translations of the original Japanese phrase, and an English speaker would never say such a combination of words seriously. Some translators understood this and accounted for it, but were constantly scoffed at by ignorant fans when they took liberties with the translation to make the dialogue more natural to the English audience. That's why we're stuck with crap like "Chicken-Wuss."
We should make a swear word filter to chicken-wuss.
ff8 translation was done very well indeed....by all accounts :)
I think the original means Chicken Darling or something cause I got an official art here that shows Seifer is into Zell.
Ignore the price tag, no idea how it got there. Internet nowadays.
Well, I was about to eat breakfast...
Well Zell needs to get his hot dog money somewhere
No I think he gave up on the cafeteria anddecided to get his hot dogs elsewhereSeifer tried to cheer him up
Tch. Ignorant people.
I'm gonna go scarf down some weeners and not feel gay at all. So there.
smurfing yaoi...
chiken-wuss to me is as priceless as "you spoony bard" is to the die hard fans of IV, honostly ffVIII is my least favorite after i learned lvl grinding = death.
but the insult seems very childish, something a bully who secretly respects his victom would say.
Who says it makes us feel gay. Personally, I think fan art like that is lame. I have no problem with people being gay. I also think "straight" fanart of Tifa with boobs the size of 800 watermelons is lame too.
When you assume you make an ass out of 'U' and me.
Chicken-wuss is a pretty redundant insult when you think about it, since chickens are generally associated with wussiness in Western culture to begin with. It probably sounds a lot better in Japanese.
As said already the Japanese word for Chicken-Wuss defies literal English translation but I get the feeling Seifer was calling Zell chicken sh*t because well chicken-wuss just means your a wuss-wuss given that calling somebody chicken or a wuss is essentially the same insult your calling them a coward. Just a theory.
It's been made pretty clear the translation is "chicken *insult*".
I'm glad they went with chicken wuss. It was perfect.
