Jessweeee♪ plays Dragon Age: Origins so she can show you how cool this game is

I have this urge to play Dragon Age: Origins, and I thought it would be fun if I let you guys influence how I play! Especially people who haven't played before. So first thing's first, help me make a character! Here are the six origins we can choose from, determined by our class and race:

Circle of Magi
Mages are very easily possessed by demons, so they're kept in towers and if they don't behave they are turned into vegetables. Also dwarves can't be mages because lyrium or something idk :spin:

Human Noble
The human noble is from a very very important family and has a really cool dog. Some consider this to be the "canon" origin because it has the most relevance to the main plot.

City Elf
The city elf lives in Denerim, the Ferelden's capital. In Denerim the elves are forcibly segregated from the humans and live in an alienage. But this is a happy day because the city elf is getting married today oh boy :excited:

Dalish Elf
The Dalish Elves are history nuts living in the wilderness as hunters. They are kind of racist.

Dwarf Noble
The Dwarven Noble is the king of Orzammar's favorite kid. Dwarven politics is like, really smurfing complicated you guys. We could have a whole separate thread about it. We could have a whole forum about it.

Dwarf Commoner
The Dwarf Commoner has no caste, which means nobody wants to hire them so they are forced into a life of crime :cry:

If we go with an origin other than Magi, we can choose between the Warrior and Rogue classes. Each class has three specializations to choose from.

Also, we have these voice options:

Cocky
Experienced
Mystical
Smart
Suave
Sultry
Violent
Wise

This is what I'll use to determine the character's personality during dialogue choices if nobody gives a smurf about this thread and I'm on my own in decision making. Also, we need a name!

Dorf Noble obvs.
Warrior, experienced.

I just started playing this recently. I'm a human noble because the dog is the coolest. He is never leaving my active party.

Also I'm a rogue just because I'm never a rogue in games, and man it sucks. Mages are grossly overpowered and make up for my pitifulness, though.

I vote that you play as the Dalish and play as racistly as possible.

The Dwarf Noble sounds kind of cool. I should also play this game at some point. Is it basically Mass Effect but in a fantasy setting?

Combat plays very differently, but the plot is a lot like that yeah. It has the same appeal with the dialogue choices and plot decisions. In Origins it's a lot more dynamic than Mass Effect though. Every decision in Mass Effect boils down to Diplomatic, Aggressive, and maybe a third option. Dragon Age: Origins is less linear and often has several ways of completing an area. The Warden doesn't feel as much like a real person as Shepard does though, I think this is partly because the Warden's lines are not voiced.

Rogues and warriors are kind of boring in Origins. Mages are my favorite class. They're overpowered (in Awakening mages can kill things just by walking near them) but there are so many spells, way more than you can actually get in a single playthrough and they all have really neat applications. And in DAII you get a lot of cool dialogue choices as a mage. Rogues are awesome in Dragon Age II though, and the mages have been nerfed for better balance.

I want to play this!

I remember this game. It was quite a bit of fun. I was a lovely Rogue Dalish Elf. The racist thing could be on either side, if I recall. And the Rogue and Warrior were both fun to me.

You should choose the Dwarf Noble. That sounds like a great idea.

As far as playing this game goes, I've been wanting to replay this one. All of the DLC and this can usually be found at a very good price.

Yeah in my area the 360 version is like, seven dollars for the original and fifteen for the version with all of the DLC. The PC version with all of the DLC is $20 on steam, I think.

So yeah Dwarf Noble seems to be the favorite. It's surprisingly the most popular among the fans. I'll get started :v

Aww. I was going to say Magi. Work them spells, baby. Having a team of mages that spam storm spells and Earthquake is really too much of a good thing.

Dwarf Noble is my absolute favourite story.

This is a fun game. I ragequit this game when I encountered a bug that made me lose all my equipment, so I never finished it, but I did like it quite a bit, so I wanna give it another shot at some point.

Overuse of quick save. Quick saved before I'd realised what had happened, and then the save before that was from days ago.

Polly is going to be the noblest noble ever you guys.

That happened to me Rantz, TWICE. Well not that exactly but similar. I had got to redcliff and was just letting it auto save. Well then during the event it glitched out and wouldn't finish the event. It auto saved during the event so I had to restart it all. Another time my file got corrupted around the same point. OH YEAH also at the end. Don't save like right at the final battle it wont allow you to finish it. You have to save right before and just reload that save if you die.

Great game but pretty glitchy.

Are you guys selling everything to Bodahn at the camp? Don't do that. Bad things happen when a merchant exceeds 1000 slots.

This is Polly, named after an EoFF account, she is a noble and a proud Aeducan warrior and she has lots of braids in her hair because dwarves like braids in their hair and in their beards.

He escorts me around and speaks to the commoners so I don't get their icky breath on me. He's also a proud member of the warrior caste from house Saelac. He's come to escort me to the feast where father is going to appoint me :save: Commander of Orzammar :save:

But first we're going to watch the Provings, where dwarves do battle to prove their honor. Dwarves are really big on honor. Today the Provings are being held in my honor, since this is my special day and all. Father is hoping one of them will woo me with their large sword and I can make more Aeducan babies with a worthy mate. On the way we run into my brothers, Trian and Bhelen.

Trian is all like, "why are you here you should be in the throne room for the feast this is your special day you are so ungrateful blah blah blah" he is such a dick. Nobody even likes him, everyone thinks he'd make a super troutty king. Good thing we elect our royalty. Anyway the feast is like, a kajillion hours from now. Am I just supposed to sit in there and twiddle my thumbs until it starts? Bhelen just stands there and watches. Way to help me out, bro.

So we go onto the Provings. In fact, I think I should enter the Provings. Instead of proving their worth by battling each other these warriors can have the honor of battling me!

I kick all of their asses and give the last guy the prize, a Proving Helm. I've got a million of them in my quarters. They're heavy and take up a lot of space :|

Polly moves between a lot of weapons? When talking to her shoddy siblings, she rocks two swords, and when proving, it looks like she picked up something greater.

There are a variety of characters you get in your party in addition to yourself, although you don't get to create any of them, they're all pre-set characters (you still get to allocate skills as they level up, but not anything they have when you get them).

Also, the romance portion of the game is easily the least interesting part of the game and borders on irrelevance to me. I do my best to not get involved.

Alistair, of course, is the worst. Sten is pretty good, the dog you get for being a human noble is the best.

Alistair is my favorite person to romance because of how well it ties into the main plot, but I'll let you guys pick. Or Polly can be a strong independent dwarf who don't need no booty.

I actually prefer set characters to creating my own, so this sounds intriguing! It's probably hella cheap these days too.

Yeah, I bought the 360 version three times. The second time it was $7 and I gifted it to my boyfriend, the third time it was $12 (used) with all of the DLC included on a second disc. The steam version is $20 with all the DLC I think, but I didn't want to buy the game a fourth time so it was freeeee.

Polly will romance Dog.

This is Duncan. He's here to recruit for the Grey Wardens, who fight the Darkspawn. The Darkspawn usually hang out in the Deep Roads, which are underground and connect to Orzammar, but lately they've been going to the surface more. Tomorrow on my first expedition as :save: Commander of Orzammar :save: we're gonna go into the Deep Roads and whup a whole bunch of them together. This way we can reach more of our mines and old thaigs and the Grey Wardens can get a better tactical position. Duncan's alright for a human :greenie:

The only thing bad about the prologue openings is how little you can change. If my brother was bent on murdering me, and my other brother told me... well, there would be some preemptive murdering.

So I caved and bought the ultimate edition on Amazon. That's two games you've gotten me to play, Jessweeee!

Apparently my family was betrayed by the person who's voice sounded like he would betray me at some point. And they stormed my castle and killed the elf maid I had just seduced. But instead of going after him I have to do some dumb trial to join the Night's Wardens or whatever it's called. WHY DO YOU DENY ME MY REVENGE

Any warrior without a massive smurf-off sword and mastery of the massive smurf-off sword skill tree is a warrior wasted.

This game is $7.50 for the Ultimate Edition on Steam for the next 8 hours. It's easily worth it.

Anyway, I want more updates on Del's human noble womanizer.

I haven't had time to play much since I've been moving, but here's an update:

So team of two main characters and two redshirts (yes I notice they don't gain levels, sneaky sneaky) went into the forest to look for our lost scrolls. After killing everything in sight we met up with a boobtacular forest witch. For some reason I was unable to seduce her at this meeting, but I think I planted the seeds for future encounters. She then took us to see her witch mom whom I was also unable to seduce but I didn't try as hard. She was pretty hilarious. After that I did the trial and some crazy stuff happened, but in the end I survived and joined the Wardens.

Then we were attacked by zombies and we have to fight through them to light the tower so the army knows when to attack? Not really sure why we're doing this. The king gives me some weird jobs. Oh and I got my dog back. That's all that really matters. I made him search the area and he found me some 'Found Cake'. Because it was found.

Nice job, dog. What's your dog's name? I love my dog.

I just imported my Human Noble into the expansion and MY DOG DIDN'T COME WITH ME. I have never played the expansion before, seems much faster-paced in all ways than the main game (faster level-ups, shorter, zones, shorter quest chains, increased gold gain, faster approval gain/loss, etc).

So apparently akbar.jpg is appropriate for this battle because 'IT'S A TRAP!'. Something seems afoot in Ferelden with all this betrayal going around. First my family and then the wussy king! I guess he wasn't so wussy after all since he bravely got himself and his army mercilessly slaughtered. Anyway, as the main character I was assigned to a post safely away from the carnage but I did get to fight a troll. My mentor and the rest of my clan weren't so lucky (well besides that jabbermouth Alistar).

After the 'battle' I found that boobtacular witch's mom is a total badass. Not only did she save my life but she was also graceful enough to give me her boobtacular daughter to me as a 'traveling companion', whom I wasted no time in seducing. But before we made that tent a rockin' we had to visit a small town to resupply and conveniently acquire more party members. We were stopped by bandits on the way but I promptly put them to the sword and took everything they had.

In town we met an honest merchant trying to make a living through taking advantage of a crisis with some innocent capitalist price gouging. Some town folk had the nerve to request this man take food out of his hypothetical family's mouth for charity. I straightened them out quickly and then also reminded the merchant which one of us is carrying the sword and trained how to use it. For my efforts I received some gold and a discount for life.

Bullying defenseless townfolk makes a man thirsty so we went to the bar only to find that the betrayer's men were waiting for me to finish us off. After dispatching them promptly I found a young priestess eager to join my quest. As it is my policy to accept all strange young women into my inner circle (and bed) I was glad to have her come along. I do plan on seducing her eventually once I get tired of boobs of the wild (and the witch seems to prefer that kind of arrangement anyway), but for now I am taking advantage of the very useful rogue class to open all those damn chests I had to pass up for the first 5 hours of this game. ><

How is Sten doing?

Sten and Morrigan have the best conversations.

I forget that Sten exists 95% of the time. Now, Shale, Shale is a god damn hero.

I haven't played a lot with Sten yet, but I'm really enjoying the 'conversations' between Morrigan and Dog.

The GistBasically, she keeps asking him inappropriate questions about Kunari (sp?) breeding because she knows it makes him uncomfortable. Eventually, he gets tired of it and just agrees to her "advances". She's completely caught off guard, and it's great hearing her spaz out when she's usually so calmly sarcastic. xD

We are going into the Deep Roads, a network of underground tunnel highways connecting dwarven thaigs, which are already underground. These roads...are deep. The dude in the robe giving us the battle plan is Lord Harrowmont, he's the kings best boy.

The Aeducan kids are splitting up. Bhelen is going down the main road with the king, Trian's going east with the Grey Wardens to do the real fighting, and Polly and Gorim are going on a super secret mission to retrieve the :save: Shield of Aeducan :save:

Anyway, this shield we're getting. Why is it a big deal? Well we've already established how dwarves have a big boner for tradition, part of this is because a lot of their stuff got jacked by darkspawn. Darkspawn live in the Deep Roads when they aren't smurfin trout up on the surface, so many dwarven thaigs are just ruins now. Some have been lost for hundreds of years.

I dont care about this stupid shield because this bitch is dual wielding daggers, but dad says so. After splitting off from Harrowmont and the King, Polly and Gorim meet up with some guy that was at the proving and this handsome dude:

So, Harrowmont pushed for a light sentence, exile to the surface, seing as there was no trial and all, but Bhelen was not having any of that. Polly is to be sent to die fighting darkspawn in the Deep Roads. Maybe not as much as a death sentence as he thinks, because that is where the :save: Grey Wardens :save: are still chilling. They also will recruit anybody with a pulse, regardless of alleged fratricide. Hopefully Daddy Duncan will adopt us and we can get out alive :excited:
