I might be biased or looking at this wrong because I've never seen whatever anime that top one is but it looks pretty good to me. Give her purple hair and some contacts and she's good to go
Anyways, actors I can no longer take seriously in any role other than the one I've personally type-cast them as:
Chris Pratt (once Star-Lord, forever Star-Lord)
The entire cast of Arrested Development, especially Will Arnett. He will always be Gob to me.

Yeah man, Raul Julia was the best possible Bison for that movie, that's just how it is. Whoever played Ken was way worse.
He was a terrible choice for Bison, and Raul Julia knew it. Still better than casting Neal McDonough in the role.
On second thought, I'm changing my choice to Neal McDonough.

I have no problem with Keanu Reeves. However, he was incredibly miscast for this role.
Oh, another one I'm sure to get hate for: Alan Rickman as Snape. I love Alan Rickman and think he's an amazing actor. I didn't think his performance as Snape was bad, he just ~wasn't~ Snape. He played him a little too flat for my taste, where book Snape is super sardonic and openly cruel.
Same for Gary Oldman as Sirius. Has nothing to do with the talent of the actor, but the actor not fitting the role.
I think for me it's just that they're both like 20-30+ years older than their book counterparts, and it's really weird and jarring.

His Bruce Wayne may have been crap, but his Batman was out of this world! He was legitimately terrifying in that movie.

Speaking of Batman, I wasn't a fan of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. I don't know, I just couldn't buy it.

Christopher Nolan is horrible at casting women in his films. Every single casting was odd. Katie Holmes, Anne Hathaway, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ellen Paige, Marion Cortilland (or whatever her name is), no just no. While I like some of those actresses in other things, in the roles he gave them, nah.

No I have to agree with Jinx. I love Alan Rickman and I did enjoy many of his scenes in the films. He just wasn't Snape for me. There were many parts of the book where Snape would be incandescent with rage and shout at Harry with genuine hate and contempt. Alan Rickman plays him so... dead in the films. He's so monotone and lifeless which I think worked for some scenes but to do it all the way through... it just didn't work for me.Quote:

Finally, one that cuts close to the bone for every English man. Kevin smurfing Costner as Robin Hood. The thing is, it's a really good Robin Hood film. I still enjoy it but... WHY??!! I'd rather he made an effort and did it badly than have a Californian Robin Hood. Oh yeah, Christian Slater as well. God damn Hollywood.
Without Costner's Robin Hood, there would be no Men In Tights, though, and that is - quite frankly - a world in which I refuse to live.
There's a lot I agree with and a few I disagree with. But I have to say, like Pike, that comparison picture with ScarJo is pretty spot on to the reference picture of Mokoto. It's hard to argue that "She's supposed to be/look Japanese" when... the Japanese don't even make her look Japanese. And personally I hate how jarring it is whenever there is a live-action anything anime related where Japanese are cast. They look nothing like the characters they'er portraying. It drove me nuts that the CG cut-scenes in FFX looked so jarringly different from their in-game counter-parts when I know they could have given them a more Japanese character model in-game. So I think I'll wait and see how Scarlet actually performs the role. But on a similar note, Charlize Theron did a horrible portrayal of Aeon Flux. Though that would have been hard to pull off for anyone. So I can't really fault her. I imagine she tried pretty hard, considering she broke her neck on set
And I too believe that Michael Keaton may not represent Bruce Wayne/Batman whenever you think about him or compare him as a person/actor, but I think he did a really good job, and arguably a better job than anyone else since (Not counting the cartoon at any rate). So maybe they could have done better, but I believe they have yet to do better
Alan Rickman had never read HP either, and although you may not have enjoyed his portrayal, there are many who did. People pull this card out when they want to slam Gambon, but conveniently forget for Rickman.Quote:

If you think an actor did a poor portrayal of a character, it's not always the actor who's necessarily at fault. Christ, just look at pretty much every talented actor in the Star Wars prequels. All of them were awful in those movies, but I doubt they had much to do with that.

I know Alan Rickman hadn't read it and that came across in his portrayal. I didn't say it was a bad performance, some of his scenes were excellent, especially in the later films. At least he was close to the character he was playing. Michael Gambon's portrayal was literally nothing like Dumbledore except for the fact that he looked like him and he had a wand.Quote:

I concede that you don't have to have read the books of a series to effectively portray a character. It just seems that Gambon didn't read any details about Dumbledore and did whatever the smurf he wanted with the role.
Am I the only one who liked Gambon? :confused: Obviously Richard Harris was tailor-made for the role, but I never realized Michael Gambon was so hated?
I didn't hate Gambon, tbh. Poor direction in that one scene in Goblet of Fire, but overall fine.

It's that thing when people are obsessed with source material (like I am in this case!) that too much of a departure is considered sacrilegious. I'm sure that many Harry Potter fans that have only seen the films love Gambon's portrayal. Most may even prefer it over Richard Harris.
Dumbledore is my favourite character in the HP series though so maybe that's why it annoys me more.
Dumbledore is kinda a dick. He knows all this information about harry and the things he may deal with and he just... doesn't tell him. And by not telling him, harry gets into a lot of trouble he could have otherwise avoided. If you think of Dumbledore like that, Gambon did a perfect portrayal.
If it's just a bad scene, blame the director, not the actor. That's my general way of thinking. The director should tell them what is and what is not good enough. Casting does come into it because I'm sure every actor has their limitations, but when you reach that level of acting I generally feel that it's down to the casting crew to find the actor and the director to mould the actor. If he did some scenes well, he's a good actor. If he did some scenes poor despite that... bad director. Could be way off the mark and I'm sure someone in this biz will let me know (hi Shiny) but this is my general feeling when I see moments like these.
Also, I agree with Vyk regarding Scarlett. If it's an English film (as in, the spoken language in the film) and the characters in the anime look Caucasian, Caucasian actors and actresses are fine. If it's a Japanese film and the characters in the anime look Japanese, go Japanese, sure.

It's a pity Harris died as he was the Dumbledore I imagined when reading the books. He had that kinda whimsy and twinkle that is the very essence of Dumbledore's character - a kind and gentle old man that you gravitate towards. I agree that Gambon wasn't good for the role either. He would have been more suited to Mad-eye than Dumbledore. :/

If we are talking about bad casting decisions based on lack of emotional accuracy to the character in the book (which I don't think matters as much) then definitely Jack Nicholson in The Shinning would fit that to a tee.

I agree completely. Yes, the "Here's Johnny" line is classic but I thought his performance was laughable and not even remotely scary. I was actually laughing at the end. There are very few Stephen King books that have been done justice in film or TV. His short stories actually made better films like Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption.Quote:
