Yeah... He got better as the series went on, but those first couple of movies were a rocky start. Why did Richard Harris have to pass away?![]()

No indeed.
Christian Bale as Batman
Christopher Nolan is horrible at casting women in his films. Every single casting was odd. Katie Holmes, Anne Hathaway, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ellen Paige, Marion Cortilland (or whatever her name is), no just no. While I like some of those actresses in other things, in the roles he gave them, nah.
Keanu Reeves in anything that isn't Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure or Point Blank. I can tolerate him in The Matrix and My Own Privae Idaho though.
Hayden Christensen in anything.
Chris Evans in Snowpiercer.
Jack Black in the King Kong movie
Matthew Broderick in Godzilla
Topher Grace as Venom (this pissed me off so much)
Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern (granted that movie was terrible too)
Elizabeth Banks in anything
Sophia Coppola in Godfather 3
Shia Labeouf (whatever) in Transformers
Jim Cavaziel as Jesus
That white guy as that Asian guy in Breakfast at Tiffany's (pretty sure they had Asian actors in America then)
Seth Rogen in Green Hornet
No I have to agree with Jinx. I love Alan Rickman and I did enjoy many of his scenes in the films. He just wasn't Snape for me. There were many parts of the book where Snape would be incandescent with rage and shout at Harry with genuine hate and contempt. Alan Rickman plays him so... dead in the films. He's so monotone and lifeless which I think worked for some scenes but to do it all the way through... it just didn't work for me.
Abso-smurfing-lutely. Why would you hire someone who openly says that they've never read any of the Harry Potter books. I mean, how the hell are you supposed to know how to play him? Richard Harris was perfect for me.
I have a few others...
Winona Ryder in Alien Resurrection - I mean, what the hell is she doing there?
Brad Pitt as Hercules in Troy - He didn't play it well. I think the role should have gone to someone lesser known
Colin Farrell in Alexander - It may have been mainly the wig, but he was still terrible
Keira Knightly in Domino - A bounty hunter? Keira Knightly? Nope, not in a million years
Finally, one that cuts close to the bone for every English man. Kevin smurfing Costner as Robin Hood. The thing is, it's a really good Robin Hood film. I still enjoy it but... WHY??!! I'd rather he made an effort and did it badly than have a Californian Robin Hood. Oh yeah, Christian Slater as well. God damn Hollywood.

Without Costner's Robin Hood, there would be no Men In Tights, though, and that is - quite frankly - a world in which I refuse to live.
There's a lot I agree with and a few I disagree with. But I have to say, like Pike, that comparison picture with ScarJo is pretty spot on to the reference picture of Mokoto. It's hard to argue that "She's supposed to be/look Japanese" when... the Japanese don't even make her look Japanese. And personally I hate how jarring it is whenever there is a live-action anything anime related where Japanese are cast. They look nothing like the characters they'er portraying. It drove me nuts that the CG cut-scenes in FFX looked so jarringly different from their in-game counter-parts when I know they could have given them a more Japanese character model in-game. So I think I'll wait and see how Scarlet actually performs the role. But on a similar note, Charlize Theron did a horrible portrayal of Aeon Flux. Though that would have been hard to pull off for anyone. So I can't really fault her. I imagine she tried pretty hard, considering she broke her neck on set
And I too believe that Michael Keaton may not represent Bruce Wayne/Batman whenever you think about him or compare him as a person/actor, but I think he did a really good job, and arguably a better job than anyone else since (Not counting the cartoon at any rate). So maybe they could have done better, but I believe they have yet to do better
Honestly, the whole "they never read the book," criticism doesn't hold any weight with me. It's nice when they do, but with a combination of good script, director and the right actor it shouldn't matter.
If you think an actor did a poor portrayal of a character, it's not always the actor who's necessarily at fault. Christ, just look at pretty much every talented actor in the Star Wars prequels. All of them were awful in those movies, but I doubt they had much to do with that.
Charles Dance never read aSoIaF and he did an awesome Tywin. Just sayiiing
I know Alan Rickman hadn't read it and that came across in his portrayal. I didn't say it was a bad performance, some of his scenes were excellent, especially in the later films. At least he was close to the character he was playing. Michael Gambon's portrayal was literally nothing like Dumbledore except for the fact that he looked like him and he had a wand.
That's because Charles Dance is Tywin and he was really just playing himself.
All I'm sayin' is that people say that it's because he hasn't read HP that his portrayal was poor, and that it is a complete atrocity that they even hired someone who hasn't read the books.
I ain't defending Gambon, I just don't like dumb double standards. :} It was a poor portrayal, that's it. Nothing to do with anything else.
I concede that you don't have to have read the books of a series to effectively portray a character. It just seems that Gambon didn't read any details about Dumbledore and did whatever the smurf he wanted with the role.
I didn't hate Gambon, tbh. Poor direction in that one scene in Goblet of Fire, but overall fine.
I hate to harp on about it because it is so over-complained about, and it is really not that much of a big deal; but yes, that one.
