This might be the first poll that was actually hard for me but I have to say X edges it out. IX is one of the best games of all time but FFX brought more new and original ideas to the table.

VOTED IX, because it's better. That's not a knock against FFX, which is a fine game with one of the best implementations of turn-based combat, some of the best music, and the best mini-game in the series (blitzball). FFIX is just special.
It was the last game to capture the light-heartedness I used to love so much about Final Fantasy. FFX tried and failed. FFXII didn't even try. And I hope everyone knows by now how I feel about FFXIII. FFIX, to me, is the full package. The story isn't the greatest, but it's good. GREAT music. Fantastic characters. Great character interaction (Vivi+Quina, Vivi+Steiner, Steiner+Beatrix). A smurfing world map. Great chocobo implementation. Airship love. Interesting locations. Lots of mini-games and secret stuff to discover. A world I feel invested in. Quality moogleness.
I.E. It might not be the greatest game at any one thing, but it's near the top on almost everything, which means it averages out to one of the best (if not the best).

But seriously, I just never understood the appeal of IX. Played through it once and that was more then enough. X isn't exactly flawless but it has some enjoyable characters and a cool world atleast.

Yes, go look up sexual 14-15 year olds on the internet. That is a perfect plan that could not possibly go wrong.
More to the point, there is no law against finding a 15 year old attractive, provided you aren't doing anything illegal based off that attraction. There are 20 year olds who look like 15 year olds and vice versa in this world. Whether or not Rikku is someone you find attractive is up to you, of course (I don't find her unattractive or attractive, personally, she just seems like a generally cute person), but I'm not gonna judge.
FFIX wins this battle for me but I thought it would be closer than the polls are saying right now. Still, there is time.
I think I might refrain voting on this one. I have played FFX and really enjoyed it but I haven't even attempted FFIX.
I feel this is too big a poll to vote against a game I haven't even played.

Had to vote on this one, GOD PEOPLE, even though it seems I'm going to lose. FFX probably my fave ever aside from XI.
It's really, really hard to decide between those game, but I'll go with FFX.

FFX was a good first entry on new hardware that introduced some new ideas. The battle system was good and I liked being able to switch between party members. Blitzball was a great addition. The story is ok, but overall I preferred the story and characters of IX.
EDIT: Seems like I took it to a 5 point lead in favour of FFIX. Could I be forced to choose between my two favourite FF games ever in the final?! D:
This is pretty simple. FFX is spectacularly mediocre and FFIX is absolutely delightful. No contest here.

I like Vivi, but I probably like Zidane and Quina more. But I probably like Lulu more than any of the other characters in these games. Shame she's not the lead, I think a story surrounding her would be pretty cool.

Oh dear! I see someone from the X crowd was foolhardy enough to bring the soundtracks into this! And to think I was going to be so nice and go easy on you...
Well, since that door has opened, I think we can all agree that X has the superior primary battle theme. Boss Theme...debatable, it depends on how much you like Nakano's atmospheric style where nothing really happens. To Zanarkand of course and a few others are absolute classics, I doubt anyone will claim the FFX soundtrack is anything other than sublime.
Trouble is, for every To Zanarkand FFIX has half a dozen You're Not Alone's. For every Yuna's Determination there are two Bran Bals. For every Enemy Attack there was a Vamo Alla Flamenco! It had really catchy world map music. Do you remember FFX's world map music? Oh wait... X didn't have a world map? Shame really. FFIX has one of the all time great soundtracks. There was so much of it in fact they released a second soundtrack in order to get on all the brilliant pieces composed for the game's many FMV sequences. X completely neglected this area, with the notable exception of the Sending scene. But completely lacked anything like, well... this!

I said it before and I'll say it again: X is too polarizing of a title. Even a lot of people who would rate IX as just a middling FF will vote for it just to keep X out. :gator: Oh well, it'll be funny when it goes up against VII.
FFX has one of my favorite soundtracks in the game. Uematsu, Hamauzu, and Nakano are my favorite composers in Square and all three of them had a hand in this one :kaoclove:
The only thing that could have possibly made it better is if Yoko Shimomura could have squeezed in there too.
IX will get stomped by VII because of fanboys but not by X! Not by X. :colbert:
Even though I voted for IX I was hoping for X to win because VII vs. X is a battle of generations. IX is a great game though.
