Do you think the Marvel approved Spider-Man reboot might be better than the Sam Raimi Spider-Man Trilogy? Because they said, they're going for a new villain who's never been realized before on film and they said that they're inspired by the 1980's John Hughes style of humor, and they desperately want some kind of levity like that in their new Spider-Man films.
I think unless it makes The Dark Knight look like the Wolverine movies, I will struggle to have any interest in yet another Spider-Man reboot. Hopefully the Russo brothers will give him a decent cameo in Captain America: Civil War anyway.
You're not interested in seeing what new director Jon Watts can do for Spider-Man? I mean, Marvel Studios trusts the guy with one of their flagship characters so why can't you?Quote:

The Sony Spider-Man movies were better than the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, so I have no doubt a Marvel approved one will be the best we've seen yet. I think they'll be smart enough to skip the origin story this time and go right to the action. Spidey is like Superman and Batman, everyone knows his origins by this point.
A new villain that hasn't been in the movies yet would be ideal, too.

I'm just telling you, if you give the movie a chance, it might surprise you. I don't get why so many people don't go into movies with an open mind. I mean, it's not like it's that hard to go into a movie with an open mind, I did it with the god damn Star Wars prequels, even though every time I did do that I came out of the theater unsatisfied.

I will end up seeing the second Spiderman reboot (15 years for two reboots is still ridiculous). I may be pleasantly surprised (it will be hard pressed to disappoint me if I go in with low expectations). But I just do not care about it at all at this point, and its existence just makes me sigh in exasperation.
This thread exists for me to post my opinion in, and I still don't know why it is riling you up so much. :p

I can see Shauna's point about being sick of Spider-Man reboots, though. I guess Marvel felt a reboot was the only way to do it to fit him in their Cinematic Universe. I loved the original trilogy & thought the last two movies were alright. I think Marvel's goal is for the next solo Spidey film is to be as good as Spider-Man 2.
I'm also loving the fact that they won't give the origin story again. That should help ease disinterest. They're also digging deeper into his rogues gallery, so I hope we won't be seeing the Green Goblin this time around, even if that means we have to sacrifice a Hobgoblin appearance.
On a side note, I feel Fox is making the same mistake w/ Fantastic Four that Sony did when it rushed out the Amazing Spider-Man reboot. I really wish they'd just wash their hands of that franchise & let Marvel have it back. Then they could just concentrate on the X-verse Movies, which is what they really want. I feel that whole thing is just to stick it to Marvel, because the FF is probably more useful to the MCU.
Does anyone know which villain they're thinking about putting in the movie? I'd love to see Scorpion on the big screen. Although, they may need to establish J.J. first before introducing him. Maybe Vulture? Shocker? Spider-Man has so many good villains I don't know how one chooses.
I'm just sad Andrew Garfield only got to play in two movies.

I figured that was the reason they had to reboot as well. I don't see how the TASM continuity could be added to the MCU.

Gwen died in the movie because she died in the comics. I was wondering if they were considering going into the Clone Saga where she's brought back some time after that, but we'll never know now. Might be what they were going for if there's any truth to the article.

Assuming Spidey appears in Civil War as Spidey we may luck out in this regard. So far the characters Marvel did origin stories for had never been done in movies but they did skip an origin story for Hulk. And knowing there's been two movies covering his origins in the last 15 years I imagine we might get some small flashbacks, but they'll probably be rather brisk and to the point rather than dwelling on him and how he became Spidey.Quote:

From what I heard they aren't even doing an origin story for Doctor Strange because people are tired of origin stories, so there's a good chance they won't bother with Spidey if they wouldn't even do one for an unknown.
I honestly don't even think Doctor Stranges origin story would be that interesting. Especially when he could sum it up in a sentence and it's just: surgeon injured hands, looked for cure, became a sorcerer instead.
I really wish they would stop re-booting the damn franchise. Hell the Amazing Spider-man is enough now we gotta sit through another damn reboot to hear the same damn story we've already been told 100 damn times.

The writers aren't really unknowns. But the only movie they've written that I've seen is Horrible Bosses. Can't say anything else they've written looked all that appealing to me. Yeah, I'm not saying they can't do it. I'm just saying we don't really have a body of work from which to judge their abilities to do this sort of movie. All we really can say is that, as a production company, Marvel Studios knows their stuff so if nothing else I have some faith in that. I'm not going to go crazy getting my hopes up for now though.
Considering Marvel's track record (Phase 2 helping me to forget about some of the disappointment I may have felt with some aspects of Phase 1 and to look forward to Phase 3), I am cautiously hopeful that this new Spiderman will live up to the standards I've developed in watching their films.
I had a dream that the Marvel movies became as awesome as the comic books themselves.

I've still never seen any of the Spider-Man films, new or old. I just can't imagine the idea of third reboots in that short a timespan though. The fact that reboots are happening now less than six years apart from each other is bad enough.
