MAKE POVERTY HISTORY !
actually it's 20 years..........
Picky..
Could you possibly provide some links for the uninformed among us?
you don't know about live 8? oh please....... the biggest concert since well........ ever. to end the plight of billions of people. and you feel uninformed? i'm sorry but either tha american media is keeping the thing greatly hushed or you hahve been livng under a rock.
Dude, he just asked you for some info. I'm pretty sure most people don't know about the concerts.

Personally, I just want to see a few acts, noteably Pink Floyd, which I'm told will play around 4pm PST. They're the second to last on stage behind Paul Mccartney.
it includes Linkin park, greenday, mariah carrey and a lot of otehr band and singers
sorry but other here it is THE big thing. in every possible way. it was just kinda shocking that it was unheard of.
weren't greenday in berlin?
The Dictators are gonna love all the extra cash... It has been said they need trade, not aid. With all Saint Bob Geldof's media whoring, hes became really annoying really fast.
Just what I was about to say ...
I'd think an event involving concerts in 10 countries,5.5billion people and over 160 acts would have been acknowledged by even the most uninformed.
Anyway, sign the Live8 petition at www.live8live.com - make your voice heard NOW !
Bono = Nobo
How do I not know about it? Let's see, maybe because I don't listen to that kind of music. Don't assume just because you know about something that everyone else does.
And for the record I had heard of that concert, but I'm not familiar with the name or who all is playing, as it's generally below my radar, so to speak.
but for most people it is not about the music. i don't like the artist either (except i don't like mondays.) but what is so important and big about it is not the people involved or the songs they sing. but the message for which they are there.
And I haven't heard about it. It's not so hard to believe, really, I mean, it's not even going to be in America and thus most news outlets give it cursory coverage at best.
one of the concerts was in philidelphia.
Ah well that explains it.I heard a rumour they were considering holding one in LA or New York, but decided to stick with Philadelphia.
I'm watching it right now on MTV, and it's amazing. Absolutely amazing.
How can you name Linkin Park and Mariah Carey on the bandlist when
THE FLOYD is coming back to play for it. Come on now, get your
priorities straight.
.opt
5.5 Billion people? Yeah, I've heard numbers in the billions bandied around quite a bit. Personally, if it actually breaks 1.5 billion I'll be impressed. You think at the least, half of China will be watching this? (Bear in mind that the ENTIRE rest of the planet will have to watch in that case.) What about Africa itself, as well as much the Middle East? I'm fairly sure most of them don't have radios or TVs, but y'know, let's not ruin a good circus here.Quote:

if nothing else, at least it was worth being able to listen to a live stream of pink floyd.
Pink Floyd. Were. smurfing. Gobsmacking.
I think that just rounded off my smurfing childhood.
How dare MTV cut in during David's solo. Seriously, who the hell do they think they are?
So yeah, The Floyd playing was about the greatest thing ever. But they didn't show much of Rick. :(
I'm watching the London feed right now. It's so awesome. :D
Yeah, only a few shots.Quote:

Shame, due to time restrictions he couldn't play it all, but he would've :D
If he did, I would've had an orgasm and broke down in tears.
Apart from me seeing them in 94, that was the single greatest musical thing I've ever seen, despite it being 20 minutes. Absolutely gobsmacking. :D
well, the assholes started talking during the middle of the song and acted like they were going to cut it off before Dave's solo started, but then it looks like someone from on high said "STFU N00BS" because they didn't cut out until the song was pretty much over. I was smurfing pissed at them, though.
Floyd looked like they were enjoying themselves, which is a good sign.
Holy smurfing hell, this blew my smurfing mind. It was so brilliant. Just amazing, simply amazing.
Jesus, seeing everyone in London singing the end of Hey Jude was great. Dammit. Awesomeness.
Yeah, that's what I meant. Regardless, there shouldn't have been a word from anyone throughout their twenty or so minutes on stage.
It was pretty awesome when Roger dedicated Wish You Were Here to all the people not there, but especially Syd.
Watching the live stream off music.aol.com was a bit better. Despite being smaller, there were no interruptions at all. Pure bliss.
iawtp.Quote:

Definitely. I heard that the MTV broadcast wasn't all that great. But the AOL feed is quality stuff. And they're already showing the rebroadcasts.Quote:

I watched it. It was beautiful. I'm jealous of the Hyde Park people too! OMG OMG I would've given ANYTHING to be there. xD It probably won't work....most of the stars were there from sheer human hypocrisy and an urge to look good.
But heck...no one can say we didn't try.
I hate it when people say that these musicians and stars are being hypocritical or that this whole thing is a useless attempt. At least they're doing something. It might not work but at least they're trying. How does that make them hypocritical? They might not be solving the problem directly, but they're donating their time and talent to a worthy cause when they really don't have to.
And I really do believe that these concerts are doing something good.
I believe they're doing some good too; and I appreciate the fact that they are. But I think that when people go up and talk about donating and all, when they really don't do it themselves is hypocritical. And like someone told me tonight; humans are apathetic. The majority of us will be all touched and willing to help tonight, while it's on. But once we turn off our TV sets, and get a good nights sleep, we'll forget all about it tomorrow. That's hypocritical, in a sense.
It's just the way we are, I guess? But it is true for the majority. I'm not saying that this doesn't do any good; I'm so glad they have done it and I know it was fantastic of them all to do it. But I won't deny that I do think that some of the stars are only doing it to look good: "Oh! Charity work! Wahoo! Excellent publicity for me~ I'm soooo good! Everyone will love me!"
And the whole thing isn't a useless attempt. It's just the start though. Not the finishing; and there's heck of a lot more to be done.
Anyone have this recorded?
Hey guys, hurray for hypocrisy.
Did you read the entire article? After finding out about the unethical practices, the Organizations who bought the wristbands worked with the factories to improve their work conditions.
Yeah, that's really hypocritical of them.Quote:
Under the Ethical Trading Initiative standards when we find out a supplier isn’t in line with those standards we don’t just pull away. We attempt to engage with the supplier and work with that supplier to improve conditions so they are in line with the Ethical Trading Initiative standards.
By engaging with the supplier, the supplier has an incentive to improve conditions so the end result is better than if we had pulled away.
Went to the show in Barrie, Ontario...it had it's good times but I would have prefered a more younger venue, but it was good. When I got home around 10 I started BTing all the acts I could (espcially Floyd) and they were all amazing! I can't wait for the box set to come out, cause almost every act rocked (minus one in Tokyo involving an icelandic person :P).
Seems to me like it'd make a lot more sense to check out the people you're buying stuff from before you do it, if you care, but whatever helps 'em sleep at night.Quote:
