I dunno, never played any other MG3 besides the 3, but don't you have to go around as him naked?

Metal Gear Solid Raiden, not Mortal Kombat Raiden. And yah, you do have to go around naked as Raiden.
The real reason English-speaking people have so much contempt for Raiden is because of Quinton Flynn's voice acting. When it comes down to it, everyone would have been much more tolerant of the torso-axial jumps and the running around naked if Raiden had just sounded cooler.

I don't even remember his voice. MGS without Snake is like 24 without Jack or Metroid without Samus.

Think about all the crap he went through in the game... and how he soldiered on regardless. Wimp? Don't be ridiculous. Sure he complained and protested about it, but he kept fighting anyway.
Compare his amount of “complaining” to that of Snake in the original MGS.
Anyway, I felt that Quinton Flynn (Isaaru in FFX)’s acting was just fine. Believeable, fluent, captured the emotions well.
But then, it seems customary to despise any translation of any Japanese game, so there’s probably not much else I can add – except that some Japanese voice-actos are pretty poor, too. In the trailers for MGS1, the Ninja sounds like a robot from a bad 60s sci-fi, and most of the other characters have nearly identical voices – except for Liquid and Raven, who’re distinguished by the fact that Liquid’s voice is about an octave deeper than Raven’s.
Not everybody’s going to like every actor. Big whoop. Like him or not, think he was suited to it or not, it’s hard to deny that Flynn gave a skilled performance as Raiden.

And that’s what you get for playing on easy. When I played through on extreme he had to beat 20 Metal Gears in a row. And technically they're not Nuclear equipped, Ray is the only Metal Gear without Nuclear capabilities.Quote:

Snake was a badass, battle-scarred, cigar smoking, grizzled war hero come ladies man. Raiden was the exact opposite. I liked Raiden, he did just as much as Snake did in MGS, and then went one further with the HF Blade, taking on 24 Metal Gear Rays, three at a time. Sure, he didn't have the other Metal Gear's behind him, but he was still a good character, and I quite hope for more expansion on his character in MGS4.
And the whole aerial cartwheel while holding a gun.
It's odd that people called Raidan "clueless" after Snake's "A Security camera"! shout and Big Boss repeating everything that people said to him in MGS3 (Virtous mission?) The sword and cartwheeling add +10 awesomeness. What I really hated was Rose.
The security camera comment was due to the fact Snake hadn't encountered any cameras in previous Metal Gear games.
Snake is just as surprised as the player should be.
The fact is that most gamers are actuallyand would prefer to be in the shoes of a tough guy like Snake to mask there own shortcomings. When they see aQuote:

Admittedly, I do not prefer Jack's voice actor. I'd prefer to not have had to endure the 'nude' scene. I love the Russian disguise and the katana. From the perspective of stealth preferences, Raiden's original outfit is pretty cool. From any other standpoint, not so much.
I don't understand how any can complain about not being Snake. When other games have sequels, people don't complain nearly as much that they're not playing as the same character. When movies have sequels, people don't complain as much that they don't have the same main character(s).
What irritates me is the whole point of Raiden was to make Snake look even cooler which worked perfectly. Personally, I preffered the rookie role and I never realised there was anything wrong with the voice acting or voices themselves in the game.
No, the point of Raiden was that players could identify more with the character, one who was fresh to the battlefield like they were, rather than a veteran like Snake.
It was nothing to do with making Snake look "cooler".
Well thats what Kojima said on the DVD that came with my copy of the game. He wanted to give the players a new perspective of Snake to make him look more impressive. Come ot think of it maybe it wasnt Kojima but someone important enough to get an intervew said that.Quote:

That's a good point - Raiden idolises Snake, in a way. So rather than having Snake as the lead character, whose eyes we see through, we instead get an external perspective on him - seeing what he looks like to other people. It also shows the kind of influence Snake has had on the world, even though he's always been a (largely) "unsung hero". A bit of recognition for all his hard work, you might say.Quote:

When people talk about Snake, they're talking about Solid Snake, when they talk about MGS3 they always call him Big Boss, because that's what he is, he isn't Snake.

As far as security cameras go, they've been around since the original Metal Gear on the NES, which the PS games sequal to after Metal Gear II:Snakes Revenge.
The main continuity goes MGS3 -> MG (MSX) -> MG2 -> MGS -> MGS2. Snake's Revenge and the NES version of Metal Gear have no place in it.Quote:

While I haven't played all the way through Snakes Revenge, I think I remember the game leading you to believe that's who the ninja is. It always seemed to me that those readable files were previous missions that Snake had gone on before the mission in MGS and those files describe the NES missions.

I tried to play Metal Gear on NES once and some dogs killed me so I quit. True story.
In MGS, when Snake exclaims "a surveilance camera!?", I reckon it's pretty safe to assume this is just a heads-up to the player - so that the player knows what to look for. Kinda like when Big Boss is getting shot up in MGS3, and Para-Medic calls him to report that he's badly wounded. It's something that'd be plainly obvious in real life; but in a game's limited representation of reality, it sometimes takes more to get the point across.
Other examples include:
*Snake getting reminded how to fire a gun
*Ocelot describing how to resist torture ("Press the circle button repeatedly...")
*Para-Medic explaining how to eat food
Snakes Revenge was developed by a completly different team and holds no place in the Metal Gear story line.Quote:

MGS2's plot is weak because it's a deliberate re-hash of MGS. They invented a convenient excuse - (SPOILER)the Patriots' S3 plan - which let them stage similar events in a similar environment. Kinda sad, but still a great game.
MGS2 was about as similar to MGS1 as MGS3. The Cobras all seemed much more like Fox hound than dead cell like The end=Sniper Wolf, The sorrow= Psycho Mantis. It just seems unfair to suggest that as MGS2s flaw when as far as I can see theyve all done it to an extent and if I had to make a statement Id say MGS3 and 1 were more similar than MGS2 to either of them. The Patriots were just as much MGS3 as they were MGS2.Quote:
