ok I need some help with 2 battles, first being ruby dragon/bahamut the other malboro.
ruby dragon:
I have 100 sleep junctions to quistis st-a/j, but the thing still wont go to sleep. I junction 100 firaga to all el. def and blizzaga to all el at. I aura squall and use his limit. THe thing still kills me with breath.

I just get my @ss kicked.
I've read the walkthrough, but I'm still gettin beat. Can someone help me with this?
Malboros attack with status changes, so you need to junction things like sleep, confuse, blind etc to status defence. If you have the 'Ribbon' item (I got it through the Chocobo world with the PC version), teach a GF that ability and select the command to the character, causing that character to not be affected by any status changes.
I can't remember much about the Ruby Dragons, sorry, but Shiva should be a good GF to use. I'm not sure, but I think 'breath' also creates status changes. If so, the same tactic for the malboro fight will help there too.

Also use Alexander because Ruby Dragon's are susceptible to Holy.
I never had any trouble with Ruby Dragons to be honest. But before I even tried to get Bahumet and then Eden I made sure that I had max weapon upgrades for my main party and also junctioned magic like 100 tornados and meteor etc to health and strength.
hmm, maybe I'll max out on some magic, where can I get the stuff I need to max weapons? I dunno what monsters to mug, ext.

Ok so you have Quistis in your party so things will be pretty easy from here:
For the Malboros; make sure Quistis is with yellow life and that she as the initiative abiltiy then use degenerator and Malboro will be defeated withought having time to use Bad Breath.
The same rule can be used for the Ruby Dragons but the Ruby Dargons that you fight before facing Bahamut cannot be degenerated (at least i think they canīt) so make sure someone as the initiative abilitie and call a GF so if the Ruby Dragon uses his Dragon Breath atack the GF will die for you and you can then revive the other two characters, now i always have Zell in my party so he can use Armageddon Fist to get rid of the Ruby Dragon or use Irvines Shot limit break, you could also use Squall but since Lion Heart is random i wouldnīt recomend it.
And thatīs the bottom line;)
id max out health or get at least 8,000 health before taking on the ruby dragons. if you are at level 100 they do over 7,000 damage with their ruby breath attack. these are the hardest enemies on the game for me. just keep HP high so you dont get wiped out by the ruby breath attack and kill it as fast as you can. what sort of magic do you have junctioned because i know how to get most high level spells. on the island closest to hell im pretty sure there are some enemies that drop items that refine into flare magic which got my attack up to 255 with help from strength +20% and 40% abilities. it would be handy to know how powerful you are and the basics of what you have junctioned.

and dwarf. I change my junction depending on what I fight. for the ruby dragon, I make sure my el. def. has fire and my attack has blizzard. my hp is curaga. my str. is ultima. and I forgot what else. I need to max out my magic more though. whats the best place to draw high spells (ultima, flare, holy, etc.). I have enc. none so I can go to heaven/hell and draw, but that takes a while.
Yes it is a GF abilatie i think Cactuar as it and Bahamut and Pandemona too.

Well you have to fight Jumbo Cactuar, you can fight him by going to Cactuar Island on the Ragnarok and you will see a green dot poping up from the sand, run into it and you get to fight Jumbo Cactuar. If you defeat him the Cactuar GF will be yours, but be careful as he will run away when is hp gets low, and he can use and atack called 10.000 needles which kills one party member, i would recomend using Zells Armaggedon fist and Irvine or Squalls limit break to beat him easily.
if my party is like 50 40 30, should I make them all equal 50 50 50 instead?
Breath is a pretty tough move to deal with at lower levels. Have Quistis at Initiative with low HP and execute Degenerator to take care of Ruby Dragon 1. The second Ruby Dragon gets a pre emptive strike so be careful. Bahamut is much easier then the two Dragons. To battle him you must pick the hidden option after defeating the second dragon
For Malboro I would recommend getting Odin or using the Qusitis Initiative Degenerator method. Don't try to take Malboro out with Renzokuken because he has far too much HP
Well i took him out with the party of: Zell lv 62; Squall lv 83 and Selphie lv.59 all of them had 9999 except for Selphie.But the level of your character doensīt really matter it the junctioning which is important so make sure you have good magic junctioned to your hp and streght and take on Jumbo Cactuar like i said, if you use Zell and Squall limit break you should defeat him before he runs away.;)Quote:

Initiative allows you to atack immediately at the begining of a batle.
Marlboros: The easiest way to kill them is have Quistis use Degenerator. If you don't use her, then you can still beat them. Just Junction Confuse, Berserk, Sleep, and Slow/Pain to your ST-Def-Js. This will make Bad Breath pretty mild, and all you have to do afterwards is have someone use Treatment to get rid of anything else. All you have to do after that is beat on it for awhile. Casting Doomtrain/Meltdown will make the battle go quicker.
Ruby Dragon: As with the Marlboros, the easiest way is to use Degenerator. This works on every random enemy. If you're not using that, then Ruby Dragons are still pretty easy. Easier than Marlboros at least. Before you attempt one, make sure you have high Vitality and Spirit to protect yourself against its Breath attack (I forgot if this causes physical or magical damage, sorry). You can also kill one person in your party. This will make the Ruby Dragon "tame", and it will only use physical attacks, Fira, and Aero. No Breath attack to worry about. Doomtrain/Meltdown work well as always. Other than that make sure to have a good Str and Spd stat.
Bahamut: He is actually a bit challenging. The most important thing to do first is draw 300 Full-Lifes from him, if you don't have 300 already. You can take your time drawing, since he won't do much to you unless you attack him. Once you are done drawing, then casting Doomtrain would be a good idea. It also would be a good idea to put everyone in Aura status and have Squall and Irvine/Zell use their Limits. However, once Bahamut's HP gets low, he will use Mega Flare. This does a couple thousand damage (I think it did around 4000-5000 to me) and it will kill you if your HP isn't high. Once he uses it, immediately have someone cure your party. Selphie's Full-cure would be ideal.
I highly suggest using either Selphie or Quistis for this battle so they can be your support. Quistis should use Mighty Gaurd and White Wind and Selphie should use Full-cure and Wall. It is important to keep your HP high, because Mega Flare does quite a bit of damage.
Full-Life is the best for HP (Ultima is stronger, but it should be used on other things). Other than Bahamut, you can draw it from the Tonberry King if you have a high level. Regen Rings refine into 20 Full-Lifes too. For Strength, Ultima and Meteor are the best. You can get 100 Ultimas from 1 Dark Matter. Meteor can be drawn from Ruby Dragons. Meltdown is the best for Vitality, draw those from Gaylas around the Trabia region. You can also refine them from Mystery Fluids. Triple is one of the best for Magic, draw that from Odin and Cerberus. The next best method would be to refine 100 of them from 1 Three Stars (Squall's card gives you 3 Three Stars). Reflect is the best for Spirit (I think), that is pretty easy to get. Haste is the best for Speed, that can be drawn from Vysages. The only magic other than the ones above that might be hard to find is Aura. Buy 30 Power Wrists from the Esthar Pet Shop. 1 will refine into 10 Aura Stones, which each refine into 1 Aura.
Keep in mind that Malboros often hit you with Bad Breath instantly, before you have the chance to *do* anything. Quite annoying. But as stated above, if you're junctioned properly, you'll be ok.
thank you all so much. I defeated malboros, and did hell lot of gf lv. up and ability learning. I didn't realize degenerator was so helpful:). I have to remember to kill a party member for the ruby dragon because the second one back attacks and uses breath 1st move!! and it does 9999 to all my characters, but I'll be sure to kill zell or something (lil punk). off to bahamut!
Can I ask how breath is so damaging to everyone here? When I was in the Deep Sea Research Centre, when the Ruby Dragons used breath it done like 3k damage max. I had my characters spanning from level 35 to level 47 or something. Maybe that had something to do with it.
But I was amazed when I first cam to this board and everyone was talking about how hard Ruby Dragons were.
It depends on your vitality status i think.
diablos has a good affect on ruby dragon and get the lionheart and stock up on a lot of aura for everyone malbaro put mug on someone and triple on the spd makes em fast so you can mug faster than escape unless you want to fight.ill wait till you get to bahamut.
It's exactly what you said. Your characters were 35-47. I have 2 level 100 characters. Most monsters get higher levels when you do. I believe my ruby dragon that I have to fight is 80? But yours was less, so I get hit 9999 where as you get hit 3kQuote:

3 new questions I have come about for the wise of ffviii.
I missed siren, will I be able to draw it from the tri-face and still go back to the world map to do side quests?
Are all disc 3 sidequests available on disc 4?
WHERES THE F&*( is melden (or however its spelt) plains for the rock sidequest?
I normally don't fight cactuars in order to get items. And I am doing all I can to prepare for omega, and am also thinking about video taping it for the hell of it:D So I will post that when I do it and if I do it.Quote:

This can be done pretty easily without gaining much EXP. The method that works the best early on in the game is using Quezacotl's Card command in battle to morph an enemy into a card. This way you gain the normal amount of AP, but no EXP. The enemy's HP has to be depleated by at least half before this will work, however. If an enemy can't be Carded (you'll get a message saying that they can't), then cast Break on them. This won't give you any AP but it won't give you EXP either.Quote:

Yah, you would do well to get cards and refine them. What I used to do was win the better cards and keep them all in my inventory till just before you go to Lunatic Pandora. Thats when I would refine them all.
well, I guess I didn't need them...but next time I will get them to make everything A LOT easier. I got 100 magic of all the best, all the gf abilities I need, and every junction except 1 character doesn't have luck. But next time I play the game through I will definetly play cards all the time.
I found out that ultima weapon quest was available on disc 4...well...because I owned him today. and...
OMEGA FACES MY WRATH TOMORROW!
...and after that I guess a new final fantasy to play. I'm thinkin 7 or 9, because I have them and haven't beat them. which should I start first?

I'd play 9 first, just a personal preference.
If you have played and enjoyed the earlier FFs (1-6) then 9 will be a better choice.
the easiest way to defeat all the bosses are use Irvine limit break (cast aura on him), AP ammo, u can deal 9999 damg each shot with 200 Str.
I think with 3 or 4 times limit break, the bahamut will down.
You need more spirit if you dont want Ruby Dragon's breath does 9999damg on you.
Ruby Dragon:To fight Ruby Dragon you must have Doomstrain that sleeps the dragon easily and also make the enemies Vit. to 0.Make sure you have Irvine in your party and cast Aura on him and use his limit break,Shot. Take AP ammo and make sure Irvine strength is high and do this repeatedly, you will win the fight but don't forgot to summon Doomstrain because the dragon will woke up and may use it Breath to finish you.Quote:
