RIP
Crikey :(
At least he met a fitting end. It'd have just been adding insult to injury if he'd merely fallen down some stairs or something.
*sad*
I used to watch that show all the time. :(
Nobody will ever be able to agitate animals as well as he did.
That's tragic, man. At least he went out doin' what he loves to do.
Wow... :(
Poor guy. He was one of my favorite guys to watch when I was a kid. Truely.
This reminds me of one Halloween when like, twenty kids were dressed like him. :(
As for his death, I agree with Kishi and Strider. At least he did what he loved until the very end.
First Treadwell, now Irwin. Can't say I didn't see it coming though.
Sweet jesus...
I truly liked the guy, but, as many have said, at least he passed on doing what he enjoys.
I feel sorrowful for his family... There were known risks, of course, but it still doesn't remedy or lighten the pain of a lost one...
Rest in peace...
Man that is proper, proper fail.
R.I.P, my man. What a legend.
I couldn't believe it when I saw he had died. Steve Irwin, dead. I still cannot believe it. I actually at first thought it was a joke, but then I got a text from a friend saying he had died, which I guess only confirmed it. As I come from Australia, everyone is talking about it. I go to tell someone, and they already know. Everyone is really sad about this, he was such a great ambassador for Australia, and one of the most true Aussie's we have had in a long time.
Rest in peace, mate.
He was extremely charismatic. Slighty insane...but charismatic. And he made something I was never really interested in fun to watch. He will be missed.
Aw, man. :(
Poor dude, I feel bad for him and his family. He seemed like such an awesome and fun guy, and I used to watch his show all the time.

"I'll just jam my thumb up his butthole... Crikey! He's really pissed off now!"
He was so much cooler than that pussy Jack Hannah.
WOW....now THAT is a horrible way to go.
RIP...don't piss off the crocs in heaven. :P
Just woke up this morning to this shocking news on TV. Very sad.
Although people are somewhat surprised he got killed by a Stingray, Steve Irwin, the man who seemed immune to all dangerous creatures gets killed by something that is hardly dangerous at all, in fact, Steve is the first person to get killed by a Stingray in the last 60 years, he'd be the last person I'd expect to be killed by Stingray.
Yeah, again, I thought this was funny. I'm sick in the head :(
wow i cant believe he died....why stingrays?!?!why!!!i wanna kill stingrays >:O for kiling STeve Irwin =O but i know its not the rigiht thing to do and he wouldnt harm them in anyway MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR HIS BRAVE HEARTED ACTIONS PLEASE!!
R.I.P. Steve Irwin, you will forever be remembered in our hearts truly, and continue what you do best in heaven =)
I must say, I am terribly, terribly saddened. Truly a fun man. He wrestles alligators. I didn't think anything could kill him. I'll miss you Steve.
I kind of knew this would happen one day. I am sad to hear that it did, but it does not suprise me.
That really is sad. I haven't seen the show in a long time but still, I'll miss the guy.
i agree i wasnt expecting him to die via stingray i was expecting a croc but nope. r.i.p steve m8 u were a legend. and timothy treadwell is a tool hahahahaha he got eaten by a bear
You are sick in the head. =\
Edit: It wasn't just the fact that he took danger head on that makes him so cool. It was the fact that he was such a genuine guy and one of the best icons for Australia, and he'll be missed a lot throughout not just Australia, but the world.
My deepest sympathies go towards his family, friends and his staff at Australia Zoo.
This news makes me sad. :(
>>> This sucks, I hope discovery make a tribute or something..
:( I used to watch it as a kid as well
Seems really hard to beleive that hes dead
Despite the fact that the guy made a career out of pissing off dangerous creatures, I never saw this coming. RIP Steve.
This is sad.....I lve his show...and now it's over...a sad thing...
I always thought he was invincible. This news shocked me. Though he hasn't interested me in the past few years, I really enjoyed his shows when I was younger. RIP Steve Irwin.
I remember when the Crocodile Hunter : The Movie came out, I was estatic. xD

smurf me, I thought this would never happen =/

This is truly depressing... He was the best conservationist because he got the message across for all people. He was a true blue Aussie hero, and one of my heroes too...
R.I.P Steve Irwin
Shauna will be <3 broken when she finds out :[
I read it earlier.
not only is this devestating.
its a massive metal spike in the australian Tourism industry.
RIP
I think it kinda takes the piss that he was taken out by a stingray. Really unlucky too. I think he woulda liked to have gone whilst wrestling a croc or summat. Poor guy. Poor family. I really liked him and the way he'd tell us exactly how to annoy animals, and then show us to make sure we get it. He really kicked David Attenborough's ass :D
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/entertainme...e_irwin150.jpg
R.I.P
still in shock!
its unbelievable:( i feel for his family though
He never feared the dangerous animals, that's what i liked about him.
I'm so upset - I'm just in total shock. I heard about it today in class and seriously thought everyone was joking. But my gosh, they weren't. Australia has lost an icon. I loved Steve Irwin - he was so awesome. Crikey.
RIP steve.
dam never saw this coming.
He loved the creatures of this earth no matter how large or small like his own family, and btw David Attenborough ain't that bad, his programmes are sometimes nothing short of fascinating
I was never a big fan of steve irwin, he never treated the animals in his show the way they should have been, but even so it is always sad to see someone die before their time :choc:
What a shame. I wasn't much of a fan of him but its still terribly sad the way he died. And terribly unlucky, and scary.
My sympathies go to his family and everyone who knew and cared about him. RIP
This is so sad.... I liked him. I was watching him on TV about an hour before I found out....
Not to sound insensitive, but it was bound to happen sometime. Line of work he was in (or was that just a HOBBY for him?), something was bound to slip up. Sucks that it was something so cheap as a stingray, though.
I used to watch him as a kid ;__;
But like others have said, atleast it was doing something he loved. He rocked. :(
He was -- awesome. Like...a legend. Seriously. I never watched his show that often, but he was still an icon and a legend to us all. :/ RIP, you. And may you hunt crocodiles a-plenty in Heaven~ :)
I didn't believe it at first, after reading part of the first article I was linked to I went and found some others, 'cause I thought it was a joke.
But sadly it's not :( He was a great guy, lots of fun to watch, and he will be missed.
We've most of us grown up watching him piss off the most dangerous animals on the planet without a second's hesitation, and walking away from it. I guess after all that, it didn't seem possible that one of them would actually get him, however sensible a conclusion it might be.
I really wish his death was more gruesome. I mean, come on, after all he was around and he gets owned by a sting-ray? I mean, I was expecting JAWS to come and tear him to pieces.:rolleyes2
Yeah, thought it would never happen, shocked to hear the news. RIP Steve.
:(
It was the first thing I noticed on the news page when I got on the internet.
Jeez, this sucks.
I'm reminded of that delivery commercial where he's bit by a snake and dies because the antidote hadn't arrived in the mail.
:(
Steve, May you Rest in Peace.
yeh, what a legend Steve Irwin was... really sad to see him go. Of all the creatures he came across, i wouldn't have picked a sting ray to be the culprit. Everyone in Australia is sad :( , as i know lots of other people around the world are...
Wow wtfaku. RIP. Seems ironic and unbelieveable, but he did what he did best.
Poor guy, family and friends. I kind of saw it coming, but that doesnt mean its not shocking. But, a Stingray? Of all creatures?
RIP dude
Yeah.. that's really sad but, I think maybe he died with no regrets. He led an exciting life and met an end when doing what he loves best. RIP.
Well it makes me want to write a FF fan fic where the lead males remember Steve Irwin when they encounter a lamia. Well RIP Steve.
too early for this
Wow his wife doesn't even know ?!?!?!
I read that too. That she's off trekking in some mountains with no contact. How devastating. :(
This is so so sad. I always imagined he'd be crikeying into his old age, where he'd die peacefully in his bed.
(Trying to fend off a bunch of angry crocodile assassins.)
Rest in crocodile-hunting peace, Steve. You were a legend. :(
(Also, that FF6 battle screen ftw.)
i couldn't believe it, i thought my father was joking when he told me this morning,
Steve Irwin was a complete and utter lunatic, and that's why he was so great. I guess it was always going to happen one day.
still unbelievable.....it feels like something you thought you heard, but it was actually just something you made up subconsciously.
its so sad all through middle school he was my hero. i even started catching snakes and stuff because of him. i fount out at 1am this morning when i went to wikipedia to llook something up and bam there it was right in the front. i searched other websites and wiki was the only one at that time that had it. its so sad :(
i always wanted to go to his zoo one day in the future and watch him feed the crocks.
Well, yeah, it's to be expected if you're going to just mess with wild animals.
Although I disagreed with some of what he did with animals at times. He helped stop those despicable "Crocodile safaris" from going ahead. My dad discussed the issue with several wildlife conservationalist charities, an not just were they not even aware of the issue, but as far as I know they didn't even get involved. So it's a shame he died. He genuinely cared about the animals conservation. Unlike many people that work with animals in television, who are only in it for the money, an have no consideration for the animals involved.
I woke up and saw this on the news, and I was really shocked. I didn't expect him to die like that, actually. I thought he would die when he was old, and peacefully. When you watched the show, you just started to like him. That's the kind of person he was. RIP ...
From MySpace...
Take a moment, close your eyes, and say a prayer.
Steve Irwin, lovingly known as the Crocodile Hunter, died on Monday doing what he loved; capturing wildlife on film in its own demain.
While filming Stingrays in the Great Barrier Reef, Steve Irwin was hit in the chest by a stingray and died from cardiac arrest before help could reach him.
Irwin and his wife were very much in love, and now she will have to face life without the person she needs. His two young children will grow up without knowing the wonders of their father.
If you ever watched The Crocodile Hunter, you'd know what an impact that Steve has made on the past decade of research. He bravely went where no man has gone, and he has done milestones in zoology and other forms of science.
Kids, teens and adults alike will join in their mourning of this great, charismatic Australian.
Remember Steve Irwin, loved by all. Remember our Crocodile Hunter.
I mostly posted this because I like the last picture, where he's apparently captured a rare model train.
Sincerely, I thought that this was a joke when I first heard it. I still can't believe that he died from a stingray. However, I'd be lying if I said that I didn't have an underlying feeling that this would happen to him one day. But still, he was a great man, to say the least. He entirely embodied the spirit of Australia. May he rest in peace.
I tire of all the people chiming in with anything to the effect of "it was bound to happen sometime" Ok dont know if anyone told you this but death awaits us all, it will happen to us all "eventually". Just remember its not how long you live its what you do with it, and frankly I think this guy's got us all beat out with that. He put his heart and soul into something he was very passionate about. People critisize him for needlessly putting himself in harms way of animals just for the sake of good television and therefore label him as some kind of Aussie "hack". It's my humble opinion all he was trying to do was to build awareness for these animals in ways that people just quite hadn't experienced before, in other words he was probably acutely aware of how prone we Americans are to not giving a damn especially when it comes to things like animals and the environment and such things so that he came up with a way that actually GRABBED our attention and guess what? It worked.
I get worked up when I read negative posts about a guy that committed himself so much to such a good cause. While his death was untimely, its no reason at all to ridicule what he did with his life as "stupid" and "bound to happen". It's one thing to die, its another to truly live.
I don't see anywhere in this thread anyone saying anything about his career, or himself, being "stupid."
:(
I heard on the news that when Steve Irwin was stabbed in the heart by the sting ray's tail, he actually pulled it back out...and then collapsed.
I miss him so much.
I was pretty shocked when I heard it, too, but at least he died doing what he loved/was best at. RIP mate.
Man, I love Crocodile Hunter.:(
RIP Steve, you shall live in all hearts forever as long as there are crocodiles on this planet, for each crocodile shall remind us of your brave deeds to capture the beauty of these feared reptiles.
I always seen him being killed by a croc, but by stringray, I cant believe it. They are usualy so gentle, Ive stroked one! He was a little annoying, but still he was n entertainer and a family man, so may he R.I.P.
When I first heard that, I didn't believe it. I was shocked. I came out of denial, when I stumbled across a new's article. (I first heard it on a MySpace bulletin). Atleast he died doing what he loved to do, more than I can say for most people.
Dammit, here come the re-runs...
I started to cry when I first heard about it...I miss him.
R.I.P.
Steve Erwin.
Well he was completely wacked...at least he died doing what he loved.
Even though, with him being an Aussie and me being a Kiwi, he's supposed to be my arch-rival, it totally sucks to see him go.
RIP Steve Irwin.
This is a very sad loss (made me even more sad after seeing all the interviews on cnn about him).
But I do think he was a rather stubborn fellow. Not so much because he put himself in harms way. But because he was putting himself in harms way like that when he had a wife and two kids at home.
I'm sure he new just exactly how dangerous the profession that he was in was and the effect that it could have on the people who needed him the most. And still he chose to do what he did.
I think the guy was a thrill seeker. I think that has more to do with why he did what he did than any animal conservationalism does.
But he definitely was fun to watch and seemed to be a really great guy. So in that regard he will definitely be missed.
But I still say he was a rather stubborn fellow.
I must say I disagreed with alot of the things he did.
and the stereotype he promoted of Australians just didnt suit me at all.
once I added a random person added me on MSN, and he asked "where u from"
I said "Australia"
he said "Do they even have computers there"
but the conservation he tryed so much to uphold (successfully) awed me in many ways to appreciate him.
I think the conservationalism he did was great. But I don't think it was necessary to go to the means in which he did in order to accomplish it.
I think the means he went about in doing that conservation had more to do with him getting his own personal thrills than anykind of conservation itself.
It's funny that there is such an outpouring of affection for him after his untimely death when it became trendy after he had been "out there" for awhile to diss him. I've talked to many Aussies about him in the past and at the time almost every one claimed they considered him as much an Aussie "hack" who gave them a bad rep as any skeptic American thought. Oh well.
At any rate, his overenthusiasm that sometimes seemed to border abuse was his way of trying to make wildlife as fun and exciting to his viewers as it was to him. And the money he made from his popularity was poured into conservation efforts including a ton of land he purchased for animal reserves. While he may have been a thrill-seeker, what he chose to make due with that was unselfishness to the greatest degree, and he should be commended and remembered for those efforts.
Anyway, I figured a snake would have gotten him. He was too familiar with crocs to have ever been taken out by one. I felt with snakes he seemed to believe in his own immortality while being significantly more out of his element with them.
A stingray is just f'ed up. Pulled the tail out of his own pierced heart though...totally badass.
I'm gonna seriously be like him when i grow up ^_^Rest in Peace mate
While I agree with all his efforts and passion (he was described to have a great deal of attachment to many many animals, not just crocs and snakes), I just want to say something about Australians. We did love him, and I know there were a minority that didn't, just because of the image he had potrayed internationally. Which I really didn't see a big deal in.
I can't believe what I saw on TV last night, whether you did like him or not. An English women actually said he got what he deserved, and that he was cruel to animals (which is not true, I can assure you). I guess it was fine in that nothing she said could be justified or backed up though -- but I can't believe you'd have such an opinion on someone like that, without ever meeting them or knowing fully what they have done for the world. Not to mention the fact that she had spoken out to the media about this just after his death.
I'm also not very fond of a lot of the American kids I see around a few forums I visit -- who are actually making jokes and laughing about this. What the hell? Someone has died.
Anyways, /endrant.
Let me pose another question here. Aside from all the good he did for wildlife and what not can you guys still back his lifestyle when he had a wife and two little kids to take care of.
Yes he obviously was a great guy to be around. But do you think he was a bit of a selfish person when he put himself in such harms way all the time when I am sure he knew the risks of his profession and that his life could be taken at any one instant and he still chose to do what he was doing even with the responsibilities he had to a family.
Quite honestly, i am not deeply saddened by his going. Sure, we all know The Crocidile Hunter, but i dont understand why EVERYONE is TOTALLY sad about his death, when other people who have been known had also died, but were given 5 minutes of spotlight on the nightly news, and then the next story.
It's because he was an entertaining character to watch. And made something interesting that generally isn't known as being interesting.
I don't really care whether he died or not. He was just... there.
He ONLY WAS in the spotlight for 5 minutes. Its just because people make threads that it obviously lasts longer. For most people this is already old news.
I agree with Omecle. This is a big deal for Australians. Just respect this =)
I dont live in America, I live in Germany, and I DO respect it. Ive been posting here havnt I? And I said I liked him and its a shame hes gone. Anyway, I said for MOST people. Most people arent in Australia, so in that way, theres more in the world than just Australia :p Anyway, I was replying to NINJA_Ryu's post.
Seriously though, its a shame hes gone.
I understand how you do feel, and I wasn't saying you don't. But I just wanted to make it clear that it's not just a 5 minute spot light thing everywhere, which is what I took what you said as. So I apologize for misreading that. ^^;
Ach, it wasnt like i was offended. I like correcting people on forums cause im evil
Did you know the barb of a stingray is like 20cm long?
i didn't think people like this COULD die. i thought when they were born it was like...
VOICE OF GOD-
"Steve, you will agititate animals all your life. They will not harm you."
STEVE-
"Criky, really!?"
VOICE OF GOD-
"Yes. But leave stingrays alone. I'm serious."
maybe he just didn't listen... I'm still shocked, though. :(
Do they have a video fo him dieing? I think they do but wont show it to anyone. I liked him, sad to se him go
It's still on TV in America too. Ugh, there's more to the world than just Australia.
Yes, there's video of it. It'll be shown to police and someone on TV said "maybe a few close friends," but... I can't imagining them wanting to see it. Maybe the part after the stingray hit him where they're trying to save him, but even that seems like it would be too much to me.
