This thread is not about books, it's about foreign films.
What are your favorite foreign films of all time?
"She's on Duty" or "Please Teach Me English". They're both Korean, and both swashbucklingly hilarious.
I also like a few Indian movies
"Amelie" or "Cidade de Deus" (City of God) for completely different atmospheres and styles. Both are perfect examples of either the innocence a person can have (Amelie) or the depravity (Lil' Ze from City of God).
"Good Bye Lenin!" and "Run Lola Run" are also awesome. Props to you Germany.
I assume you mean anything not American, even if you didn't that's what I'll base my post upon.
I'm quite fond of a few Danish movies. My favorites would be Blinkende Lygter, Gamle mænd i nye bile and Inkasso, but there's other very good movies too. Then there's always Battle Royale, which is Japanese. I haven't really seen much foreign movies.
edit: yeah, that Lola movie is cool.
Uhm, I guess The Science of Sleep could technically be considered a foreign film. I also really liked House of Flying Daggers
Goodbye, Lenin! and Der Untergang (Downfall) are absolutely fantastic German films and I suggest you watch them if you ever get the chance. Both fairly recent, with Downfall being about Hitler's final days in the Führerbunker whilst Goodbye, Lenin! is about a family in the early 90s trying to hide the fact that East Germany has collapsed from their furiously loyal socialist, bed-ridden mother.
Battle Royale is a good film too, but I don't rate it as highly as the two German films I mentioned. Best part about revising for German exams: watching films!
Not my words Carol, the words of Top Gear magazine.
A large amount of my favourite films are foreign. Battle Royale I+II, Infernal Affairs, Ong Bak, Tom Yum Goong, Oldboy, Project A, Police Story, Dragons Forever, House of Flying Daggers, Hero and so forth.
Edit: Oh yeah, Run Lola Run, too.
Shaun of the Dead.
I love foreign films, I think they are so interesting and different, unlike most run of the mill american films.
My faves are
A Very Long Engagement-French
Twin Sisters-Dutch
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon-Chinese
Russian Doll-Australian
Old enough to know better, but dumb enough to do it anways.
Blanche: "In the south we mature faster...I think it's the heat." Dorothy: "I think it's the gin."
