I live in a hamlet. It's very serene and quiet, but also very boring. I don't think our hamlet has any interesting quirks which are retroactively indicative of the hamlet.
My town was the first place in the world to have an official YMCA building. Or maybe just in England. World/England....same difference.

They filmed some of The Da Vinci Code in Lincoln Cathedral. It served as a double for St Paul's Cathedral, as they won't let anyone film in there.
A lone nun sat herself outside the cathedral to protest about this filming in sacrosanct territory. Obviously the rest of the convent didn't give a smurf.
Also, Tom Hanks ate lobster in my friend's restaurant, which is round the corner from the cathedral.
