I believe that when a person dies, his 'energy' is somewhat left behind. That's why there are called hauntings, especially if that person died a tragic or violent death. They tend to reenact how they died, my only 'logical' explanation of rattling chains, ghastly cries and weird shadowy figures. And no there are no fairies in our house, just dwarves.
